LOLOLOLOLOL!!! That thinned lob shot that hit the flag!! Yikes, David. Even when you try to make a wreck of it, you hit a good shot. 😁

I get it about ego golf. I worked hard to get from 10.9 to a 7.6 and in my journey this season (plus watching your course management videos) I stumbled upon a Flightscope Mevo and practice with it to know my distances. Knowing the distances is the key asset. Example for me from your lessons, 4th at my course. Driver then hybrid and a short iron vs a driver, fairway metal (potential lost ball) then a difficult short pitch. Took a while to understand it but you are absolutely correct.

Whoever is the Number 1 in the World is the best at distance control, that's why you have dropped to 7.6. Brilliant.

Merry Christmas. I have learnt so much from your videos. Everything you say makes so much sense and feels very natural to me. It's as though I know already that what you say is obvious and known to me, however, nevertheless with your voice in my head, I feel I come to terms with my own limitations and accept them happily and then bizarrely exceed my best....which of course makes no sense at all!

100% correct as usual. I've been working my socks off in 2024 to get a "grown-up" handicap. By far the biggest single impact has been from trying to kid myself and over-play my abilities. Clubbing up or expecting to get on the green in 3 has helped me drop from 21 to 15.3 WHS. Strangely.....it really feels like playing lazy/easy golf....and is far more enjoyable.😂😂

I really appreciate your videos. Last season, I was struggling with my driver, so I switched to long irons off the tee. Even struck poorly, my 3-Utility iron would give me 150 yards and be in the fairway. My handicap fell like a rock!

some of my best rounds came when I "clubbed up" on holes. Amateurs almost always hit their clubs shorter than they think they do (on average).

Definitely, biggest error we don’t reach the hole

Love this! Said to myself the other day next season don’t worry about the distance! Advance the ball straight! For that 60 yard shot what do you think about a 8,9 with a short putting like heel up stroke? Same putting stroke with diff clubs & dial in distance

175-190 for the drive, and in play. By the end if this year's season, (my first in 13 years at age 63), I was doing that with my 4 wood, and keeping it in play pretty consistently. 9 of 14 fairways in my last round of the year. Better than that the round before. Could be better, but not bad. Putting, which I've always felt I did better than my level, and which your benchmarks confirm, came back pretty quickly this year as well. The stuff in between, not so much. But we'll tackle that next year. 😉 Your performance benchmarks, and very sensible way of thinking about things are a great help. Those bench marks give me targets to aim for as I try to improve, and also let me know when I have a skill area that's in pretty good shape, like putting. Most importantly, they take the pressure off on the course, and help me relax. That, I gather, is what you want them to do? Well, they work. Thank you.

The data is to get you to understand what to do, and then get your expectations in line with the data. It's sounds like some areas this is happening, when all are in line then you'll see what you really can achieve.
@seanbainesКүн бұрын
@@TheResourcefulCoach Yes. That's exactly how I use it. Also targets for improvement, and reassurance that I'm OK in certain areas. That helps me prioritize what I need to work on.

Translation for North American viewers: "Wellie that ball as far as I can." "Wellie" = boot. Specifically those black rubber rain boots with the red stripe around the bottom that many of us wore as kids. In Britain, those aren't called rubber boots. They're called Wellingtons, or "Wellies". So when David or another of our favourite British golf KZbinrs talks about "wellie-ing it out there", they are basically saying give it a good hard kick our there. HTH

This is such a good video David. You are not only the resourceful coach you are also the most sensible coach. All your videos are about putting the odds in your favour. BTW, my putting has improved dramatically due to your clock approach. Yesterday was the first time I only 3-putted once in around. Thank you for giving me so much joy from this game. (Have you ever considered joining Skillest? If you did, I would be a subscriber!)

64 years old and playing the tips a little over 6,900 yards. I have no choice but to pull the driver out on a lot of holes. I do pull less than driver on a few holes because Mr. Robert Trent Jones Jr. is a master at forcing you to back off of the driver.

Have a day and play some shots with the driver and some with the fairway wood and see which works better, when I can I always hit my 4 wood

As a 78yr. young golfer whose good drive only goes about 125 yards what sort of level do your stats tell you I should be playing to? I must admit braking a 100 is to me an rare achievement. Must admit I only took up the game 6 years ago. I would love to hear your thoughts. Than you.
@TheResourcefulCoachКүн бұрын
You can play to 36 hitting it 125 off the tee and then 110 off the fairway. Shooting 105-110.

Not at all confident you are right on the 3 wood vs driver tee shot. All data recording apps ...Shotscope, Across etc...show the difference hitting fairway across all handicap groups is marginal. But distance is clearly key.
@TheResourcefulCoach23 сағат бұрын
All data will show distance is key which I agree with. If you miss the fairway at the same distance it will cost you 0.3 to 0.5 of a shot, depending on your level of play. Plus hitting more solid consistent shots will increase your level of confidence
