Hey, Danny, I'm 54 and I've spent the majority of my life playing what I thought was the game of golf. Then I was about to abandon my pursuit learning and playing more golf after a painful injury I sustainable last spring. That was until the past couple of months when I started watching your videos and discovering so much that I had been missing in this sport. I've learned so much in the past few months from your technique, style and great coaching to help get faster more accurate and cleaner contact. Just in the past few weeks, I've been "snapping" the ball better on my release and working on aim and shaping my shots. I am feeling very good about the progress that I have been making from your videos and wanted to say Thank You!

The towel drill is the single best golf training aid I have ever used. Done properly, the towel drill teaches a proper windup, sequencing, footwork, extension, and helps to learn to deliver the pop at the bottom of the swing. Also a great warmup tool. After watching Liam do the towel drill and seeing the drastic change in his swing, I made one. The next step was to learn to swing what feels like out of control. It is amazing how the club just wants to naturally square up if you let it by relaxing the hands, arms, and shoulders. Trying to steer the club into positions is like applying the brakes to a freight train! Just let it go! Within a few weeks, I went from around 200 total to 230 total with what feels like less effort. I have had several drives go past 240 now, so I know there is more there. It takes time and purposeful practice, but I feel like the swing is getting faster and faster. Interesting footnote, when I play a tight hole, I tend to go back to trying to steer the ball and I only hit the ball about 200 yards. Just need to relax and let it go. You can’t steer the towel! Thank you Danny!

What I like the most is that you have not changed from the swing mechanics (philosophies) that you teach, you provide different drills to achieve the same swing. The benefits for this senior golfer are twofold; first is that it helps reinforce what I’m doing. And 2nd, it adds some fun variety to practice. Several months back after I first saw the “towel” training aid on your channel, I made my own and use it regularly. In addition to speed help, it is also is great to help loosen up. Thanks and please continue the great content.

I'm a big guy- 56 years old, over 6ft and not weak, but my inability to hit a golf ball over 200 yards is the worst part of my game. It isn't strength- I know it isn't. It's mechanics and tempo, but knowing this hasn't made it better for me. I just watched this video and can't wait to try it out at the range. Once again, it's a teacher explaining concepts simply to students. Bryson can make all the videos he wants of his 400 yard plus drives. Danny speaks to the rest of us.

I learned to externally rotate my trail arm elbow down like a waiter lifting a tray to shoulder with momentum and leverage a dozen years ago at age 60 when I rebooted my twenty-year Nicklaus style swing using Hogan’s Five Lesson. Like you demonstrate here with LESS effort I started hitting my driver 50 yards further. The lesson in Hogan’s technique for me was that the external rotation of the trail arm does not occur in the takeaway the trail arm isn’t going to be in position to be externally rotating and tucked into side elbow down like him in the down swing. It’s different STRATEGY for acceleration of club head - the underlying goal - which requires the golf to learn an entirely new technique which Hogan also stressed which is the WAGGLE of the club, which a 90° rotation of shaft and face VERY QUICKLY in the last part of the downswing. Practicing this myself I found a way to groove the feel of externally rotating the trail arm, dropping the hands down behind the back foot then letting club head whip around them: go out in the back yard with a 7 iron and whack weeds using just the trail arm. What you will realize be doing that is the as the hand are dropped straight down - not pulled the target in front of- the hips will reflexively respond by turning open BUT if you don’t lift the back foot they stop rotating when reaching 45° open. That’s the point where the tucked into side elbow down externally rotating trail arm swinging the club will also feel stuck - triggering the club head to accelerate down around the ‘stuck’ hands adding additional striking force effortlessly. That’s the ‘waggle down’ part which is bio-mechanically similar to what the right arm and hand do when cracking a bull whip or driving a nail at a 45° angle with a hammer. The underlying physics are the same. What ‘unsticks’ the hips and hands are: 1) the coordinated lifting and turning of the back, and; 2) side-bending of the lumbar spine. Senior golfers with poor swing usually don’t know how to side bend and to compensate they wind up lifting and turning their back foots too soon. The ‘whack the weeds with trail arm’ exercise and side arm tossing golf balls at the ground a few feet in front down the target line are two ways I suggest for “grooving the feel” of how to coordinate the hands and body with that Hoganesque swing strategy.

Danny, Thanks to your videos, the carry with my driver has increased from 196 yard to 240 yards. The ball flight has changed from slice to a small draw or a safe fade. What I am most happy about is that these improvements remain constant. Danny, please can you tell me what are the dimensions of your bath towel? So I can improve my ball striking.

The most important things you’ve said for ME recently is don’t think too much. Get movement into the swing, whereas I had definitely become fixated on process. Also putting the club head In front of ball in iron shots, where you want the bottom of the swing for whatever club has been a brilliant way of getting weight sorted out. This adds to it all. Danny. Thanks for the videos. Happy and healthy and successful 2025 for you and the family

long time watcher, first time poster! thank you for all the lessons! i've been working on consistency (for years lol) and it's so difficult. the way you smash your driver (effortlessly) is so crazy to me. would you be willing to share your driver loft? i will admit that i don't think i'll ever hit as far as you, but maybe this is something i can tweak to get a few more yards!

Thanks you for taking the time to comment. I really do appreciate it. My driver loft is 10.5

The head move I've been using as swing trigger - good for Jack, good for me. Great lesson!

Great video as always! Should you flare your foot out for all clubs? If not, which exact clubs?

It really helps mobility so I would say yes

Great video, Danny, happy new year!!! I used the feeling "turn and get right back pocket aim target" and that did get me swing long straight driver and even my constant slice got fixed!!! So happy!!! One question, can i use the same theory "pocket, and pour water from ear" onto my hybrid/Fairway woods and irons? Appreciate it!
