Usually it is lack of food options offered, try super worms, dubias, silkworms and thawed pinkies(for Giants & Supers)

It’s best for insectivores to not eat pinkys. It will cause more digestive issues and they are mostly fat. Silkworms are a great option, though!

​@@SuperGiantGeckosLLCNo, no no no NO! This should not be a part of their regular diet at all! Only ever feed a pinky as an extremely rare supplement/treat! I'm talking once a year or once every 6 months, starting only at 3 years old. Never feed a pinky to a sickly gecko with bone disease or high fat health issues. Never feed a pinky to a baby, juvenile, or younger adult gecko unless it's for example a female who just laid eggs. I highly recommend gutloaded dubia roaches, the occasional treat of a hornworm, or the maybe one or two waxworms every 2 weeks. Again, waxworms are too fatty for a healthy diet. Similar problem as pinky mice. Black soldier fly larvae, Silkworms, Crickets, Dubia roaches, occasional vitamin A and Magnesium, and a deep heat projector can all get your gecko to eat again. Also make sure the gecko has enough water and a place to poop! Dehydration is serious. Final note, it's better to starve a reptile than to force feed them if you're not certain they've pooped their previous meal. They aren't like us mammals. Make sure they're comfortable, basking, exploring, and thriving before you give them too much food. Deep heat projectors along with halogen or yellow/white basking bulbs are great, and UVB long reflector florescent tubes are also very helpful in "activating" the gecko and getting it to eat or hunt.

I’m surprised Geckotopia is putting out outdated info. Heat pads are not recommended as a sole source of heat, as they do not provide ambient warmth, only a hot spot. They also are risky to use, causing burns or even fires when not regulated/if they malfunction. A regular white basking bulb on for 12 hours a day has been the care standard for some time now, as well as the minimum tank size of a 20 long (ideally a 40) to provide a proper heat gradient (warm and cool side).

So you know they’re meant to be put under a hide or something so whenever the gecko wants it can go into it I use the day time light too both temperature regulated. Most cages that are 20-40 have the below surface that allows air flow to go through. Please don’t tell me you think red lights are good for them too…

@@Puffdaddyjose I do, yes, and I mention that heat pads don’t work well as the SOLE source of heat. They can be useful for supplemental heat in homes that are colder when controlled by a thermostat and monitored with different types of temp readers (like a temp gun). Not everyone has the same type of enclosure. Wooden enclosures are common, especially with the rise of DIY. Unregulated heat mats can cause fires, regardless. But burns are the #1 risk, I’ve seen so many poor reptiles with awful burns at the reptile rescue I foster with. There are just better options out there. Of course red lights are bad. The information I’m sharing about heat mats is based off of the latest care standards for leopard geckos shared in advanced care groups and other reptiles proposed by experts in these species. Care standards change all the time; reptile husbandry research is never ending (:

@@garfieldenjoyer420 I did my research they all recommend heat pads… only thing I read about was heated rocks being unregulated and a huge reason for pets being hurt. Instead of saying you shouldn’t use a heat pad you should say you should only use a heat pad if you have a digital thermometer that reads it. And if you decide to do a diy enclosure and your reptile gets hurt because of you not building proper ventilation. Don’t you think that blame would be on you? I’ve had my heat pad for months with no problems with enclosure that a bought online perfect ventilation. Just saying 🤷‍♂️

@@Puffdaddyjose if you want to follow older care standards because you say it works for your animal, no one is stopping you. I’m sure you found plenty of sources recommending heat pads because that was the standard for many years. Reptifiles has a great up-to-date care guide if you’d like to check out the new standards. I’ve tried several different heating setups for my geckos, and the one I’m using now (just a heat bulb and UVB during the day) has worked the best for my geckos. They are displaying more natural behaviors than they ever have before. I tried the heat mat route when I first started keeping, as many did, and found that it made my geckos very inactive.

​@lowkeyjose1511 heating pads are definitely an older husbandry tool. I hate to say it but the carpet substrate and heating pads this youtube Breeder adversities just aren't the best practices. If things are working for you that's wonderful they are hardy animals but I don't think it's a bad thing to be condemning bad advice in comments. As someone who worked at a pet store and who has been a reptile enthusiast for over 15 years I can honestly say heatpads without a thermometer being advertised to be used under a costom carpet is a recipe for a burnt lizard.

Hey geckopia upgraded my leopard gecko from a ten gallon to a 20 gallon, and since then whenever I would add insects into her tank she would look like she is interested but go back into her hide. I offered her dubia roaches, crickets, nutrigrubs, and mealworms. So I was wondering if you could give me some advice on what to do.

It may be the new environment is causing them to be little shy. They do need but of time to adopt to new environment before they start eating.

I upgraded my leopard gecko tank and hasn’t eaten but seen her exploring so maybe in a few more days she would eat because she looks at the food but doesn’t take a bite, hope she will thicken up cuz she is really skinny 😢😢😞

If your geckos acting skittish or aggressive when they are handled, waggling their tails, breathing quickly, spending lots of time in their hides, or looking dull in color. This is signs of stress.

I HAVE A QUESTION this is about my gecko Rainbow a couple days ago a whiteish liquid started coming out of her eye my dad said it might be a sheding problem is she going blind she is a bit old and she stoped eating because of this where using eye drops to hopefully help her, her other eye we don't know what happened and if the white eye doesn't heal she might be fully blind

i just got my gecko and she was born on 07/08/2023 so shes about 3 months and she just stop eating 4 days ago (today is 10/19/2023) and idk why, her belly looks fine and shes still active at night and everything even her tail looks healthy but she just keeps turning her head every time i try to feed her. i cant afford the vet at the moment and i am willing to try home remedies, what do i do?? :(

@snoofles Hi there! When leopard geckos move to new home (environment) they need some time to adopt so they may not eat for 2 weeks. Look out for tails. If leopard gecko tails are chubby, then it means they could be either ovulating or not hungry. Chubby tail is a good sign of health. That’s where they store all the nutritions when they hibernate. Usually, thin tails are a sign of sickness and not in good condition.

help i went to a 1 week holiday vacation, and when i came back my leopard gecko isnt eating. he ate the first cricket i gave him, but the second one he bit it and spat it out. the third one i nudge it to him but he would just stare at it. before holiday i gave him 5 crickets and he ate normally. its summer so its quite hot, i dont think low temperature is the reason he isnt eating:(

@@GECKOPIA my leopard gecko is a male so i dont think he is ovulating, and he eats almost everything i give him:( and my gecko is actually in good shape, his tail is chubby and cute haha. I guess i’ll just observe him a little while more:( and plus i live in a relatively warm climate, so im unsure if hibernation is possible??? especially it’s summer here

@@gecko_09 my gecko ate after one week, im still unsure what happened but he seems fine now. Your gecko will probably go back to eating after a few days or so, but if i’m really worried I’d go to the vet to make sure

No calcium sand! Calcium sand can cause impaction because it encourages them to lick it but it also has ingredients that make digestion harder for them. I use a mixture of 70% topsoil and 30% regular sand
