Would like to see a video where you discuss measuring at the dome level and at the grate level, and just how the two different measuring points impact the many different types of foods grilled/smoked/baked, on the different types of grills, gas, charcoal, pellet, kamado, drum, etc. Some incite to temperature differences based on location of the temperature probe (thermometer) would help eliminate some of the guesswork us backyard grillmeisters experience trying to get the temps right!

2:51 Many of those dial stick thermometers can be calibrated by grabbing the nut on the back of the dial with a pair of pliers. Dip it and twist the face while grabbing the nut with the pliers. Twist till it sits at 212°

Good video, but you didnt discuss how calibrate - nearly all digitals and some analog dials can be calibrated to boiling and freezing.

While they didn't mention this, I believe it was inferred. If your zero is 30-degrees and your boiling is 210-degress, your thermometer is off 2-degrees. Obviously this is a simple example. If you have weird numbers I'd ask an engineer. They could calibrate your thermometer in 2-minutes. Reward them with some BBQ.

Are smoke tubes worth using with a pellet grill for more smoke? Do they give off the bad smoke or the good smoke? Any one better than the other?

My meat thermometer has a range between 60 celsius and 87 celsius which means none of your experiments work using this thermometer. Any suggestions how to test accuracy?

After doing the boil test on the tel tru and confirming it’s accuracy, there is no need to use a separate digital ambient probe. Makes life a little easier. Elevation definitely makes a difference on the boil test. There are some graphs on line to determine boil point at the elevation your at. 👍

Thermometer was about 75 degrees off......dial was 300 digital were 378 & 382 Took it out put it in boiling water its at 201 thermopen was 202 Put it back in the drum and its 70 degrees off again

Completely the WRONG way to test thermometers 😂!!!!!!!! The ice point reference can be made but you have to use the same water source each time as impurities in the water can cause differences in zero degrees Celsius. You need to crush the ice like a slushy drink ( can be done by placing the ice cubes in a plastic bag an smashed until small crushed ice) and put it in a vacuum flask adding water a little at a time until the mixture appears grey (yes I can spell GREY as British) stir it to ensure uniformity. Ideally you would have a calibrated thermometer as a reference or at least a brand new thermometer. Strap the calibrated / new thermometer to the one(s) you want to test with elastic band or similar and place in the centre of the ice mixture without the probes touching the bottom of the flask. Keep air away from the top of the flask by placing screwed up paper towel in the top of the flask trying to keep it away from the ice mixture For a higher temperature place water in a flask and leave until stable readings. This can be done with boiled water but take readings every 5 minutes and average the readings as the water will start to cool. Take at least 5 readings.
