Thanks for the tip about the contact solutions. I just decided I need to go back to contacts after my eyes have started to lose visual acuity from my lasik surgery.

A few weeks ago Dr. Dave made a video on how to make your eyeglasses pool friendly. He gives some really great tips to those who still play with their regular glasses.

Definitely a great video for those who don’t want to purchase pool playing glasses. Dr. Dave is great!

Hi Anthony.. I've been blind in my right eye for 21 years now. This year, my fall/winter league team finally took first place. I own the team lead for most wins with 40, my Capt had 35, and will finish at least 3rd in the league for most wins overall. Never give up. Keep practicing, playing and adjusting. Thank you for your videos and keep em coming. 🙂

I lost my left eye at age 11, so I've had plenty of time to adjust to shooting with only one eye. And I have been a member on numerous first place league teams, and I have won some tournaments, too. But, once I went to wearing glasses my game really suffered. This video addresses this very important topic, and especially for the older player who is starting to lose their sharpness of vision, and it contained lots of good advice. Thank you, Anthony.

With all the variables we have to account for, such as squirt, swerve, spin induced throw, collision induced throw..... it's probably not a good idea to add bent image into the equation also. For now, I really only need to have readers for up-close vision. But the older I get the worse it gets. I may need to invest in a pair of billiard glasses.

I agree with this video but will take it to the next step.... at ~58 was diagnosed with cataracts. I was told they were a type that normally progressed rapidly. I elected to have lens replacement surgery, not cheap at all. After one eye done, a day or two later was seeing better than when I was 25. Two or three weeks later had the other done. My pool game is better than 20 years ago, I cut shots I gave up on years ago. I still miss a long one now and then but I am no longer intimidated. If you are ever diagnosed with cataracts, I highly recommend the surgery.

Yes, it's a game changer. I've had family members have the surgery and it completely changed their lives!

Thank you, Anthony. When I used to try (in vain) to play golf, I used to wonder if eye glasses were a big factor. Now, thanks to you, I believe my efforts to enjoy pool will NOT be in vain. John Webb. Columbus, OH. P.S. I will keep you posted! Another thing that happens when I get a new pair is that when I hold up a sheet of paper, it is shaped like a trapezoid for a few days. Something has to be wrong!!!!! Thanks again!

Switching to contacts has helped me. However I do notice a loss of depth perception with them because one eye is corrected for close up and the other dominant eye for distance. Doc says that's normal. But I don't really notice that while playing pool because there's lots of visual cues to tell how far apart the balls are. Still would rather have the eyes of my youth LOL!. Also just my $.02 but in all cases I would consult an eye doctor before making any changes.

Thanks! Playing pool with glasses is a bitch! Playing pool with contact lenses and being near sighted is worse! It’s been a struggle!

Sorry to hear that. Have you tried pool glasses?

@@poolteacher, no I haven’t. I have just learned to keep them tight and close to my eyes, my last pre-shot routine is to push my glasses up and tight, seems to work well.

Surgery should be the last resort. I'm curious to what your prescription is. Feel free to email it to me (billcurran2020@gmail.com). A lot of players struggle when shooting with their 'regular' glasses and that is why billiard glasses has helped hundreds of our customers. I used pool glasses, they worked for me, and then I got lasic surgery. It turned out that I didn’t need glasses any longer for pool. My problem is I play left handed and am right eyed. Need to close my left eye to check my aiming point. Any hints on how to better deal with this? Keep those videos coming.

My vision is a problem for me. I have one contact for reading and one for distance. I have always had depth perception issue as well. Glasses don’t work for me because I end up looking over the top of the frame. They make true bifocal contact lenses which I may try next . Not sure they will work but it’s worth a try. But thank you so much for verifying what I suspected was an issue. I can close my left eye and actually shoot much straighter. Do you know if bifocal contacts may work? Wondering if you have tried them or know of someone who has ? Thanks for the great pointers and great videos

Some people use bio vision. Look up close with one eye and far away with the other eye.

Great video again Anthony. I can contribute to this topic. I had lasik when I was 26. It worked great for about 20 years. I had to go back to glasses after that. I was told not to get the lasik again as when I turn 55 I can get the permanent lense implant and insurance covers it. I just got a pair of contacts this past well but have t shot in them yet. I will tomorrow but when I shoot I push my glasses up on my face and I look down the shaft thru the glasses. My face is almost perpendicular to the table.

@@curtisnstacey I had to reread that. Lol. Sorry. The eye Dr I was using couldnt get me fitted. Either the contacts were stuck to my eyes and wouldn’t float or I couldn’t see the balls clearly. I finally gave up after we tried 4 or 5 pair. Going to a different eye Dr next year and try again.

Anyone have issues with their contacts moving as you get down on your shots? As my pupil gets closer to my upper eyelid my lens will start shifting/moving and blurs my vision requiring me to blink numerous times to fix it.
@poolteacher3 жыл бұрын
I have in the past. Try a few contact lense brands. some just fit better than others in my epperience. I have used Ascu-View Oasis and am currently using Ultra. No issues for me with either of those. I'm guessing they all fit a little differently.
