I made 2 mistakes in the video:
1) the original hook is a forged hook. So its heated and bent into shape, making it very strong. Cast iron is the weak one.
2) the lock ring isnt cotter pin, its a snap ring or circlip

Yet another interesting video Kyle, good job man! Perhaps one thing to consider ( yes it does cost a bit more $ 😅) is that you could use a long Soft Shackle with the Ultra Hook to help save from damaging that beautiful red gloss finish on that well engineered & tested Ultra Hook. This is for when you hook on to anything like hard metal recovery points, or hard metal bow shackles. Now Factor 55 and others do a 20" Extreme Duty Soft Shackle which is long enough to double wrap which in turn doubles the working load limit of the soft shackle to above that of the Ultra Hook, which is great albeit an added cost. you misinformed a bit. the dimensions for the throat diameter is not for knowing how large aa shacke or whatever can fit, but rather for you to do the math and be able to seee when the hook is out of its service life, the throat is rated as it can expand up to 10% whilst still being within load capacity. so if expanded or "bent" to 11% or more hook should be discarded
