This is a great collection of music here. Starts out with the Intermezzo from the opera "Notre Dame" by Franz Schmidt. At the side-by-side double Axels it goes into the overture to Adolph Adam's "If I Were King"--the slow piano music is Rachmaninov's "Rhapsody on a Theme of Pagganini" and then ends with the conclusion of Franz von Suppe's "Poet and Peasant" overture.

Brasseur and Eisler were world class and one of the true threats to the Russian/Soviet dominance in pairs in the 90s.

This team is funny since teams that had huge tricks usually also had speed and power. This team had amazing lifts, huge twist, big throws, and yet really slow skating in between the elements.

If I remember correctly this was the second Olympics in a row where she had to do this injured. Not easy at all. Have to hand it to them. They were always fun to watch.

More than that, unlike any other pair competing, their entire performances hinged on Lloyd's ability to toss Isabelle around like a potato sack. How ANYONE with broken ribs could survive that is beyond me.

Let's face it, the Russians/Soviet teams simply dominated the Canadian and US teams in terms of speed and especially artistry! I don't think it really ever changed until Shen and Zhao from China came along. And I say this as an American.

This particular program from B&E was very high in artistry and garnered extremely high scores before 5.9s previous year. They also had the hardest program out of the three teams even with her rib injury and a downgrade on some elements. Hardest by far.
@user-lbrd7 жыл бұрын
It was great but wasn't the hardest. The set of the individual jumps was the easiest among the top pairs
@GetBenched201013 күн бұрын
@@user-lbrd But none of those top pairs topped even the jumps in this particular competition. G&G skated a clean, but safe program and won on respect points. B&I got their respect points in spite of a horrible 1992 performance and it came back to bite them here.

They skated slowly here but I saw them skate live years later and they skated with incredible speed and flow, so perhaps they were being cautious with this program.

well one of them had broken ribs...

The problem was that their basic skating skills were not as good as any of the 3 Russian teams.

Great elements but they are too slow
@5879coco5 жыл бұрын
They aren't skating slow - look at the outfits how they are blowing with the speed and the ice coverage. End to end of the rink multiple times during this program. I have seen them live multiple times and their speed is incredible.

Agreed. Not even close to G&G or M&D but they were still good. Certainly much better than their Canadian counterparts of today Duhamel & Radford who pale in comparison to any of these teams.

@@starsmoon0216 not in 1994, G&G skated a very safe program and won on respect points. The judges overcorrected by doing the opposite with Torval & Dean a week later.

They have the most daring lifts, but rest of the skating is slow compared to the Russians. The in-betweens are rather pedestrian quality. I am surprised they got 5.8's for artistic impression.
@tally16047 жыл бұрын
they should have finished 4th with this atrocious skate with the third russian pair shishkova/naumov getting the bronze medal.
