Thank you so much for sharing this. I just picked one of these beauties up at an estate sale this morning; it came with a mowing deck, plow blade and snow thrower. It's great to know there is someone working on making sure parts are still available.

Those are nice tractors 🚜, don’t see very many simplicity tractors down south. They always seem to be up north. Father in law got 1 for scrap years ago and it was built like a tank. Like the videos Norman keep em coming.

Another reason for the portal box on the rear axle is it keeps the axle higher for more ground clearance.

very informative, ZIPPO V arga loves this SIMPLICITYS...but on a tight budget....the JOHN DEERE 400 FIRST MODEL IS as far I'll go don't need to start collecting any more big mowers ....have an old Ford with HYDRAULICS(12hp).......and old cub cadet...with a 5hp but with a solid (big) rear differential... going back out to finish fabricating the front end loader....got the lift cylinders placed well the tilt seem to be a problem...due to stroke to get the bucket to tilt enough to dump, still going thug the range of motion....building it off visuals........got no plans.....but I'll get there.....like I've said last time I got too many projects......need to focus....narrow the feild......sell of about 5......oh by the way go to car SWAP MEETS always see them there old garden tractors. take a trailer....people are getting older and letting their stuff go.....then their kids just get rid of the stuff dad collected.....thus the barn finds.....good luck.....young man......MR. I have a 1977 MTD 990 its really heavy and a torque pig weighing in at around 1000 lbs. but still no where near as heavy as your Simplicity Powermax 4041! It has a 32cid 16hp iron block single cylinder flathead Briggs & Stratton and a shaft driven 2spd. rear-end. And yes I wished I had a 3spd. like your Powermax cause that 2spd. in my 990, the gear ratio is like day and night. Low is very low (which is good) but high is too high.

Hi, Norman. Congratulations on finding your PowerMax. I have this tractor in the back yard. It was running when I parked it back there. Mine does NOT have a rear PTO. I also have the mowing deck and front snow blade for it. I was thinking about replacing the Onan engine from smallenginewarehouse. What would you do? Would you keep the Onan or repower the tractor. My long term plans are to do the front end loader and backhoe build you did for your other tractor. I enjoy your channel. I learn a lot from watching you.

That's a pretty hefty tractor. I bet that side-draft carburetor is less of a headache than the typical Nikki carbs used on the later B and P series Onan engines. Wonder how much work it would take to adapt one over to say a John Deere 316/318/420 or a Cub Cadet 982.

Great review. Great tractor! It was nice to see it up close. You said you are putting together a rebuild kit for the Onan engines? That is great! I didn't think parts were available for the old Onan engines anymore. Do you also sell rebuild kits for the old 12, 13, 14, 15 hp cast iron Briggs and Stratton engines?
@Isavetractors
@Isavetractors 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, we are developing our own brand of rebuild kits for the Onans. You are correct, Onan parts are NLA now, but we will change that. We are also working on more parts for the old Cast Iron Briggs. I have limited stuff right now for them. I have Pistons, Points, Head Gaskets, and Carbs for those engines. Working on more next year as well.

ok that one is pretty cool. How much weight can the rear arms lift?
@Isavetractors
@Isavetractors 6 жыл бұрын
I can actually calculate it by figuring the total force the hydraulic arm puts out then calculate the torque in the linkages. My guess based on past experience is probably 500#. It can likely pick up more than that, but then the front end would come up. I could probably push it to 750 if I weighed down the front. I will have to test it out! The rear end can handle it.

Interestingly (to me at least), these Powermax's were made to compete with the incoming Japanese Imported tractor that eventually took over the market and led to the extinction of this class of "Garden Tractor." Kubota won the day.
@teaganryan9787
@teaganryan9787 6 жыл бұрын
it seems like garden tractors sort of became what is now known as "sub-compact". that simplicity weighs 23 pounds less than my dad's Kubota (which is a small compact tractor, not sub-compact), is maybe not as long, about the same width, 1 cylinder less, but 16cc more, and 1.5 horsepower more. really the biggest thing that would make it a smaller type of tractor than a compact is the type 0 3-point, instead of type 1.
