The new salvage mechanic in 3.22 has the community split on if it was added to the game too early. What do you think?

Berks, thanks for the additional commentary. Agree with the Vulture changes, really makes it a great ship. With the depot buffer it really gives you some endurance, allowing you to get another smaller job before heading back.

running the reclaimer with 2 man crew you would have the pilot get in co-pilot seat, then 2nd in tractor beam turret to max efficacy of the salvage process. so they were spot on. if you have 3 man crew they would hang out in filler station, 4th guy would be on engineering in the future, then gun turrets as needed so the pilot pitching is only in the one-off times you can scoop up a fragment without moving anything before hand and you have a guy in every seat/station

The new filler station and crafting setup solves the biggest QOL issue salvaging had. I think it's a good compromise to do something with the claw vs nothing until Maelstrom is implemented then a reworked reclaimer can bring back the intended claw with lessons learned. Same thing with engineering repair beams. They can at least get a full game loop activity working end to end so development as a whole can keep moving forward.

I like the current volume and price point of the 2 materials. However, I would like to see the CM also have the option to be refined to make it worth more.

I think the structural salvage is just ok as a place holder, at least until the Maelstrom system comes in to hopefully get it to where it should be.

I see the next iteration of salvage and its complexity in salvage for ship breaking being that you have to avoid causing components explode -- like powerplants and quantum drives, etc. You have to cut it up or remove the components first. If you cause the power plant to explode you get significantly less resources but you can salvage more often and faster but for less return. Also malestrom should give us a reason for cutting lasters in the multi-tool and potentially the claw having a targeted destruction field/cutter. Also the claw could work like a mining laser where if you break it wrong you disintegrate too much of the ship so it gives you a lot less material similar to failing to break a rock correctly.

i like the buffer solution for salvage. vulture currently is a giant pain. Now i wish they made the cargo grid 3x3x2 because everyone just stacks boxes there anyway.

Wait but with this buffer storage that means you can salvage twice the amount, sell your boxes, eject the second patch, instantly sell again. 🤔 Honestly now with ship slurping in the game Reclaimer gameplay seems like a lot of fun. I can't wait to join people on their Reclaimers.

The Trash Man (my Reclaimer, because when it gets into the ring, it throws trash everywhere and it eats garbage) is my never sell ship, the only one i won't let go, I love it. The claw is not why I love the ship. I know I may be the minority here, and I understand the argument, but I'm not going to be bummed if they do something different with it. I would much rather have fun and engaging gameplay than CIG shoehorn a claw just because of pressure from players.

I don't think it being overly simple is the main reason people complain. I personally just feel heartbroken having expected an actual claw actually munching ship parts and then seeing a stupid little special effect and the ship parts just go poof. It also feels like they wouldn't have made all these sounds and visual effects if this approach wasn't more or less the new end goal. It just hurts. But at the same time I was also always skeptical of making a mechanic that simulates physically crushing ship parts because I know how crazy difficult that is. Nobody has done it yet for a reason, and it would have been another server meshing or PES situation if they pulled it off, and you just can't win everything. So especially in light of all the other achievements I think the current version of structural salvage is still forgivable, and once they added actual depth, also enjoyable.

I'd rater they rush a low tier mechanic in, than they spend tons of hours and than we hate it and they have to redo it. This way low effort and than collect community feedback and improve from there.

I feel like the claw operator needs a mini game or a tractor beam. The concept is actually sick to me but the seat has Antares syndrome.

If the claw was something of itself, then sure. But the claw is only one part of a multipart operation and we don't need to take training classes just to use the machine. You are asking for more complexity when they haven't even settled on a goal for the gameplay. Just chill and let them get things in.

This is an embarrassment by CIG to drop this. Salvage as a whole is underwhelming gameplay, and the Reclaimer changes just don't make any sense to copy paste from the vulture. Nothing is said about what the drones are supposed to do or the grinding room that takes up a large portion of the ship. The only real difference between the Reclaimer and the Vultures is the size of ship that can be salvaged. Which is only an arbitrary number with no gameplay or feedback loop to support it. Thumbs down CIG. Thanks for the vid Berks.

It's great we have a new feature but at the same time it's so brain-dead easy gameplay for 100% this will be run by BOTs 24/7 I'm afraid it will turn into something like Warcraft where players are buying multiple accounts just to run farm bots
