Thanks Tom, Very informative and helps me sort my product better. Thing to remember is that like the yard I go to, the manager has put me on a quality list as I am trying to give them better value product, so there staff know that I am not trying to rip them off. Recycping product is a 2 way street and it is good to know that the recycle shop we go to will look after us better financially because we try to look after them by sorting the product correctly.

Some older transformers will fracture at welds when you strike them just right. I use a cold chisel, but I've seen a guy repurpose a hatchet for it.

@@ScrapFatherScrapSon... Or don't destroy transformers if you are an electrical engineer needing certain voltage ranges stepped up or stepped down in voltages. Transformers rarely go out unless current burnt out (and visible) windings by an unchecked voltage or current fuse controlled input. Sending 5000 volts into a 120 v to 12 v voltage stepdown designed transformer will electrically fry it's design if no limiting current is applied also by a fuse; meaning, a load of power Z taking across such high voltages will never get a current I in V = IZ calculations to fry components.

I would strongly suggest checking with whoever is buying your hard drives if you sell them as hard drives. by taking off the board you may actually lose money as hard drives without the board are much less valuable than just crating them up and leaving them on. I will be doing an actual test soon to see if any money is made or lost. but generally, I would suggest leaving them on unless you are planning on destroying the drive or have already established that you make more money that way

Thermoplastic High Heat Nylon. It's just a name given for the type of insulation over the wire. There are several types, that just happens to be one of the most common used to wire homes and businesses. In appliances and electronics you'll see more variety - rubber, silicone, woven heat resistant cloth, etc.

@@ScrapFatherScrapSon you are spot on, it all has to do with copper wire theft. if the wire is stripped the police can’t use a description, brand, or any identifying features to link it to the site that had the wire stolen. I’m not sure how it is in the rest of the country but if we bring in any radiator they will not pay cash you will receive a check. that’s due to people cutting them out of air conditioning units that are on the ground. Ive seen wrought iron cages around some ac units that were in easily accessible places. one final thing, someone please tell me if it’s different other places but we are not allowed to sell catalytic converters even if it came off our own vehicle. you need a business license to show you have a legitimate reason to be in possession of them. like an exhaust shop or something. battery powered sawzalls and angle grinders made it too fast and easy to cash in with hardly any effort. i’ve wondered if we have it especially bad in AZ or if every state has pet much the same regulations, someone enlighten me please.
