Yeah, I'm most likely ENTP and I have this problem with my most likely ISFJ mother. Shes extremely high strung, and seems completely unable to cope with life without putting absolutely everything down on paper. Anything else she doesnt understand is either ignored or dismissed completely, or she makes a massive leap into spirituality or supernatural. She thinks the cat is 100% definitely chasing ghosts, and is completely oblivious to the fact that she has no toys, no companions, and a small house, so shes probably just bolting around the house trying to entertain herself. She calls me smart all the damn time, but then completely dismisses any observations I have that dont line up with her world view. Any time I try to help change her habits or explain ways she could probably ease some stress in her life, she freaks out and panics, quickly trying to end the conversation and move on. She thinks that me being upset can be cured or placated by giving me a treat or something, which just makes me even more upset. I love her and want to help, but damn is it ever hard to make a connection.

After having lived with an ISFJ for a while I would word it a bit differently. ISFJs are afraid of the unknown. Ne is possibilities, which is scary for the ISFJ. You could call it chaos (and it's not wrong to do so), but that makes it a lot harder to differentiate between INJ and ISJ in my opinion.

Thing is, INxPs can be very similarly afraid of certain possibilities, at least when stuck I'm a tertiary Si loop. It is t just possibilities, it's a broadened, plethoric view of the external world, while Si focuses on the concrete workings of one's inner being. It really depends on the functions you prefer within your specific type, I guess.

@@Drecon84 It makes even more sense for secondary Be users, since they don't use it completely naturally at first. I like to think of how Luigi from Super Mario handles situations similar to an INxP in his spinoff series, Luigi's Mansion. He is scared of the dark, scared of ghosts, and fears a lot of the unknown. Yet he still charges in and faves the possibilities while becoming a better man. The possibilities are what make the INxP grow, while the ISxJ seem to grow more within their specific routines.

0:55 my mother is an ISFJ, and I'm an ENTP, that's surprisingly accurate. As a college student, we figured out how to hide things from our mother, because at times (not all the time) she can be super controlling and super organizing to the point of throwing anything out from the house that doesn't make sense or things that are out of place. I can say she truly fits with the stereotype (except the nurse thingy), she organizes our pets, us her sons, and our small-businesses.

Yup, as an ISFJ I also throw anything that is useless and old from the house. I can be minimalist at times. Also, I organize the garbage and recycle bins. I'm still a young lady living with my parents but I kind of control the house and do cleaning at least once a week. (vacuum and mop) Other days I'll be busy with my own business projects. I'm a software engineer but I create my own softwares and APIs as I can't work in companies. Working in companies is just not for me as I can't understand what my colleagues/bosses explain their plans to me. I had misunderstandings during conversations with those people.

I get ISFJ but I'm not organized at all, I'm trying to be though. I care a lot about people inside but I'm not good at "caregiving" or doing acts of service, I actually hated that growing up because I was expected and pushed to do it as the only sister. my dad used to come into my room and say "don't you feel ashamed that your room looks like this while your brother's room looks neat even when he's a male". We get into fights sometimes about how she thinks I am lazy and procrastinating and if she would just harass me 24/7 maybe I might move quicker and she could stop freaking out. A lot of the time she acts like ISFJs and ISTJs do where they say "The chaos in my life is your fault because you aren't living in the exact specific way that makes me feel like I have total control over all of every part of my surroundings." I have an INTJ brother and we upset my mother constantly because we were rebelling against her wishes. My ESTJ dad's bluntness did not help either lol. P.S. I think the difference between an INxP and an ISxJ can be hard to tell, but given how both are convergent introverted function users, it makes sense. But despite the "bubble hiding" both of these types can do, INxPs are more split with their Si. They like their comfort zones and being reclusive, bit there is never that sense if fear of the unknown, unless they are in a loop. We generally WANT adventure and brainstorming. We want to see what's beyond the corner, we want to go after our fantasies and dreams, but we often retreat back into our inner world. ISFJs seem to far prefer their comfort zones, all while hating to deviate from it. Than there's obvious problems like organization, scheduling, ect, stuff which INxPs don't possess naturally. We more often let people decide for us if we're going somewhere, just to see what may happen, where as the ISxJ is incredibly controlling of such events. That's my rant. Bye.

My younger Isfj sister runs primarily and hypervigilently on biological death anxiety and doesn’t know it. She is basically aware of the primarily surface level of appearances, and is too scared to go deeper into why she thinks and behaves like she does. She is easily rattled by existential threats and doesn’t know it. I can remember her from the very first time she arrived home from just being born at a hospital, how scared she was. Growing up with her, I was blamed unfairly and often by her for scaring her. She still does this. 60 years later she is still the same. hey! I'm also an infj and I have an isfj mother. I wanted to say my mother's case is different from your case. my mother is fine. But I've been studying her mbti to understand her, because it seems like she just repeats things, routine, home, work on a daily basis and I would like to understand how her mind works. Why doesn't she do new things? This is very strange, is she ok? (hahahah type of question from a NI-Fe). However, I'm still progressing with things... Well, basically we infj and isfj use each other's demon function. for me, isfj repetition lacks passion, great personal interests and is boring as hell from a superficial point of view. After I discovered that SI doms have a rich internal world and subjective memories and sensory impressions, I found it interesting and started to see them in other ways. my NI gift found meaning. However, I understand why your comment scared some people: I still feel like my mom doesn't try new things. I'm respectful and I don't interfere in her life if she's fine. but sometimes I feel that she wants to try it, but is afraid of change... the inferior NE. I'm so sad. because my young ISFJ friends use their inferior NE very well to have new experiences, taking risks even if it may not work out. Anyway, my mother seems to be afraid of some changes... and I don't want her to live a repressed life. I think she got like that over time. I don't wish this on anyone. I think it's cute that they follow their routines and such, but I worry about whether she's okay, but I also don't want to be intrusive, but it's certain that a very repressed NE will create internal chaos. I saw a video of CS Joseph telling an ISFJ that when they are afraid of new experiences going wrong, for them to stay strong to hold on and change even when it goes wrong, because then they will stop hiding from new experiences, and always have an ace up your sleeve in case they make a mistake. anyway, my mother is perfect in organization, good smell in the house and everything. incredible. But never forget ISFJ, Ne has to be used. I understand it sucks, like when I have to use my SE inferior... but nowadays I'm healthy. Hugs INFJ person.

I was volunteering at a farm and my host was an ISFJ. Her farm looked straight out of magazine, and it looked like it was ready for a photoshoot anytime. Everything looked perfect. But of course order comes with a price. It takes war to achieve peace. And war was what it felt like during my 2 weeks there. Toilet seat cover must always be closed when not in use. Must play a board game everyday at 7:30 pm. Must drink tea every night at 8 pm. Lunch at 1 pm, no earlier. "Do you not understand that eating at 12 will affect your sleep schedule?" Only one slice of bread and a piece of fruit allowed for breakfast. "Don't you know a heavy breakfast is bad for you?" I was supposed to stay for a month, but 2 weeks were more than enough for me. Here's the Ne chaos for her. I told her I had to leave because of a toothache, and left the town earlier than planned. I heard that she now chains visitors' feet to an iron ball and have them sign a contract of blood. Oh yes and she was a nurse.

what if there is a solution to the 4th function problems through using the 5th function? it may act as a sort of 'bridge' between the 1st and 4th since for example in ISFJ they have Si dom, Ne inferior, but Se as the 5th, which is extraverted perception but is sensory and not abstract oriented
@aprilhelm518

Personally, I think I have a pretty strong tendency to look for patterns and try to predict outcomes (like an Ni-dominant person, apparently), but my method of doing so with Si is very "need more facts/evidence/proof first!" and NO guesses. I'm virtually always in doubt of everything all the time. In fact, I would say I am always searching for possibilities as a means to keep doubting and never take uncertain steps -- in case (Ni) it goes badly. I do find myself going to (at least what seems to be) Se (which when I realized it didn't make sense to me based on expectation of how functions work, yet it's what I was doing) in order to combat my anxiety about being uncertain. I can't seem to utilize my Ne function to fix that, but I try and fail. Se does seem to be my answer, i.e. letting go of nebulous (and often terrible) 'what if's, which leaves me simply living in the moment... Probably still not doing exciting things, but much less fearing all the risks. I don't really understand what the thing about recognizing patterns is about though, since, frankly, if the ISFJ in the video did that, it would make her MORE terrible to everyone around her, right? @@cosmicyoke I like to think that the reason the talk about "demons" on this channel doesn't make enough sense to me is because the "demon" function in MBTI (apparently, anyway) is the 8th function. And no wonder since the shadow functions (5-8) are the ones that are not valued by the person who has them, whereas the 4th function (supposedly, and in my experience) is very valued. If anything, I've gone through life wishing I had more Ne, but I don't and that's reality, and it's fine. It's a weak muscle, but I doubt there are a lot of people who are struggling in life for not trying to overtax that weak muscle that they wish was a strong muscle. We have strengths; it makes sense to play to them. But aren't the shadow functions the ones we don't like to engage or be friendly with? -_-' I would say that definitely the 3rd and 4th function, although weak, are NOT demons at all to the user, but the shadow functions are probably much harder to appreciate.

Could you talk more about INTJ vs INTP? I’m sure it’s pretty much similar as INFJ vs INFP with despite them being in the same temperament and same dichotomies, they don’t have any cognitive functions in common. For me, I may have a little trouble from time to time between these four types because they can be similar in some ways. I’m quite an organized person. Or so I think or hope I am. I’ve had people tell me I’m responsible, meticulous, and hell, even very stubborn I guess. I’ve thought about whether I’m an SJ type but I feel really skeptical about authority and tradition so I couldn’t possibly be that. When I was younger I was apparently a lot more animated and talkative but I’m quite very silent and reflective today. People tell me I’m a profound and an insightful person as well but, I guess you could say that to just about any type depending on whether their intuitive function is well-developed. And if there’s a situation, I always approach it with logical reasoning. I’ve been accused of being robotic before a lot of times but I have emotions like any other person and they run deep. In my experience, every peer whom I’ve had a closer affinity with was xNFP. Either because I attract them or I gravitate towards them. (It’s usually the former but I’m not going to brag.). I’m not sure if this is trying to account the fact that these types are more common than INxJ types that they seem like the closest thing for my type and/or that I have some functions in common with them. I haven’t ever been typed as an INFP and I know for sure I can’t possibly be one. While I know some INFPs can be quite logical if they wanted to be, they’re driven by their emotions or ‘values’ (Fi) as we should put it. Perhaps their ‘identity’ is tied to them being logical so they could be mistyped in that fashion. And honestly, they tend to be easily triggered types in my opinion and that’s where a lot of friction happens between us. Fi-doms definitely do seem to give off a ‘bratty rebellious child’ vibe because of what they “feel” and what they “like” and “want” (or maybe that’s just me.) It’s pretty difficult for me to write about INxJs though. Mostly INTJs. I don’t think I’ve ever met one in real life. Or maybe I have but I just don’t know it and I might have them mistaken for a different type. From all this, some of you might think I’m some sort of INTP in denial who rambled on about all this nonsense. Or maybe I’m an INFJ who’s in some “Ni-Ti” loop where they like to use their ‘Ti’ function and may appear like INTJs or something. I honestly don’t know. Feedback from anyone is welcome!

Idk. I would say Sleep first. Oi-Di is my guess. You seem to be an introverted decider (stubborn, introspective, selfaware, doesn't really like authority...) I think it's more likely you are a singleobserver because you don't seem to be very upset about problems with other people, right?

A bit late to the party, but to add some thoughts nonetheless: You can be skeptical against authority and tradition and still be an SJ type.

Being an ISFJ sucks at all because of being dominated by (mal)function of Introverted Sensing...
@someonerandom713
@someonerandom713 6 жыл бұрын
Every function got upsides and downsides to it and for people on the internet in the N dominated MBTI domain, it's easy to look down on Si. Don't let that get to you too much =) Having an ISFJ around can be really comfortable for other people. You are the ones keeping sight of things. So whenever other people lose it, you can be counted on to have the overview and know a framework to fall back on and to then continue on from. I think ISFJs should take pride in this and be confident about these strengths. I know few people more trustworthy and as such likeable than an ISFJ who knows where to go.

Someone Random thank you! You are right about the N dominant MBTI community. I get the sense that it is because people with N saviors are more likely to be in it in order to figure out why they ( and others) are the way that they are... but I wish they understood that we can all seek those same things, even if we are isfjs. Haha

Quora Zekai he covered that pretty well in “INFP: How do I get friends?” :) I’m an INFP myself and we basically have to get our head out of the clouds and reason objectively for once 😂😂

Rebekah Parkhurst yeah, i know, but then did that video cover our fears(not having any friends)? I guess we do fear that to, though.
@RebekahParkhurst

My personal observation is that being sucked into Fi makes the INFP's biggest fear not belonging. We tend to think things like "No one understands me" and "No one appreciates me." Being idealists that are stuck in our own heads can make it hard for us to connect with the world around us (at least socially), and we tend to judge everything by our own value system, our idealism, and our sense of purpose, thus unwittingly isolating ourselves. So as he says here for the ISFJ needing to use his Ne to balance the Si, we need to learn to use our Te to balance our Fi. Fi sees the world through a highly personal and idealistic lens; Te will help us step outside ourselves and see things more objectively.

@DaveSuperPowers Peace. Whaaa? "Rob from your saviors.." Um. Maybe. Or. No. Pretty sure it's the other way around. Meaning "borrowing from our inferior to boost our persona." because, as mentioned, most of us don't actually know (or are not aware) that we're using our "savior" function.. So, why/how are we borrowing from it? Which, is why we feel the "need" to feel the "void" with a persona in the first place. Few things fill the void as "well" as digging up that rare & recognizable resource of energy/gold/diamond/gem. So. Enter the (possibly caffeine/contra band/prescription drug fueled/triggered) demon Firebird (aka "Peacock"). Hence, why people get burned out & fall into the "grip" experience. Naomi Quenck's book Was that Really Me? goes into "the 'grip'" quite well. As does Personality Junkie's founder Dr. AJ Drenth & Michael Pierce. Yeah. So. I sense the Professor is simultaneously mixing & separating here. Perhaps that blessed inferior Se has caught our INTJ Teacher off guard again 😎

It seems very easy to tell the difference between Si and Se. yet I can't tell which one is my dominant (I would be either ISTJ or ESFP but I am not a crazy psycho organizer, neither a wildchild party). I think I am more Se-dom but I can relate to this video as well lol. Would anybody have any clues or tips on how to tell for real?

I find the tone of this video extremely condescending. Even if there is truth to the content, the way it is delivered is really off-putting and makes it hard glean anything valuable. I don’t understand what his intent is - instead of being educational it’s like he’s snidely telling off an ISFJ in his own life that he has a personal problem with. Also, maybe the example is simplified down for educational reasons but come on. Could he have made us sound any more dumb?
