The year 3434 of the Second Age. Here follows the account of Isildur, the High King of Gondor, at the finding of the Ring of Power. "It has come to me, the One Ring. It shall be an heirloom of my Kingdom. All those who follow in my bloodline shall be bound to its fate, for I shall risk no hurt to the Ring. It is precious to me, though I buy it with a great pain. The markings upon the band begin to fade. The writing, which at first was as clear as red flame, has all but disappeared - a secret now that only fire can tell."

I felt the same way about Isildur's portrayal in the movie. But now I was thinking to myself; this beginning of the story mirrors the end; a good, noble person\hobbit possesses the greatest evil in the world. They nobly undertake a quest to destroy this evil by journeying to the one place it CAN be destroyed; but, as they reach their goal after trials no one else could endure, at the very climax standing over the very fire that will destroy the ring, the ring's corruption overwhelms BOTH of them, and they BOTH refuse to destroy it. It is not FRODO which finally destroys the ring, it is GOLLUM. I'm thinking that THIS is why Peter Jackson portrayed Isildur this way: Both Isildur and Frodo's stories are identical; Frodo's journey mirrors Isildur's.

As far as we know, it only became the norm after the destruction of Arnor and Arthedain, but the House of Isildur and Elrond have always been close.

The LOTR movies takes place in the 3rd age of the Tolkien universe, the majority of the 😮information shared in this video takes place in the 2nd age. There are 4 ages that exist in the Tolkien universe, if you view it that way it’s not confusing at all.

@@gamerbaexoxo I'm aware of the ages, but some actions listed directly contradict or we've movie scenes into the book narrative. (For example Elrond never tried to get Isildur to destroy the ring and he never did an evil "nooooo") This was not a bad change in the movies, but it is drastic change in his character and the relationship.

Yeah. Sauron's finger was not cut off while he was alive (as in the movie). Isildur walked over to his dead body and cut the finger off to get the Ring.
