On September 13, 2023 Jay went to Calvary Chapel Chino Hills (CCCH) to confront the 4 historical problems concerning the Origins of Islam (i.e. the Book, the Man, the Place, and the Sources), in front of about 2,000 people, but he was only given one hour to do so, which he did.
Since then 1 million people have watched it on the CCCH KZbin site, and another 300,000 people have watched it on the Pfanderfilms site.
Because of its popularity, Jack Hibbs from CCCH asked him to return last month to unpack it in a 4-hour session to around 1,000 people. This is Part 1 of that talk, which covers the Sources and Mecca.
Here, then are his conclusions:
• The Sources for Islam’s history are written down 200 - 300 years too late, and from hundreds of miles too far north.
• Mecca is foundational for both Muhammad and the Qur’an; so, without it, they both fall.
• Mecca is important for Muslims because they believe that it is the earliest and most important city in the history of Mankind; yet references to Mecca in the Qur’an/Traditions don’t hold up historically (i.e. that it’s near Sodom and Gomorrah, or that Abraham, Ishmael and Hagar lived there).
• What’s more, other references suggest that Mecca is filled with lush fruit trees, grass, grains and streams, which make no sense as Mecca has always been in a desert with bad and depleted desert soil.
• Ironically, though it’s supposedly such a great city, the Qur’an itself only refers to it once (Surah 48:24), signifying that the authors either didn’t consider it important, or it only came into existence later on.
• Geographically speaking, the Qur’an places almost all of its sixty-five referenced areas 600 - 1,000 miles further north than Mecca suggesting the authors of the Qur’an came from there.
• Even the Arabic word endings used in the Qur’an do not come from Mecca, but from Nabataean Aramaic, which is again situated 600 miles further north.
• Muslims believe that between 70 - 300 prophets are buried there; yet, with all the buildings being constructed there, requiring deep foundations, they have yet to dig up even one.
• It seems the Saudi Arabians, because of Mecca’s lack of history, are cementing up all the evidence, suggesting even they are either skeptical of its history or they don’t want the rest of the world to find out.
• When we ask the surrounding civilizations if they have heard of the city of Mecca, not one knows of its existence, including those empires which are situated immediately close by.
• Yet, other much less significant towns close to Mecca (i.e. Ma’rib, Sana’a, Najran, Taif, Yathrib, Khaybar, Petra and Mamre) are all well-known and well documented, but not Mecca.
• When noting the trade route through these towns, we find that they are all located on the Western Plateau, while Mecca is over 3,000 feet down below it, proving it was not on any trade route.
• When Ptolemy in the 2nd c. wrote his book on ‘Arabian Geography’, he never listed Mecca, so that none of the earliest 15th-16th c. European maps of Arabia have Mecca listed on them either.
• Neither the Land trade route (along the Arabian Western plateau), nor the Red Sea trade
routes (along the East African coast) supports an early Mecca, proving none of the trade went via Mecca at all, confronting the notion that it was the center of trade.
• The reason? Trade needs people, and people need water, food and towns, all of which never existed in Mecca until the mid-8th century, over 100 years after Islam was supposedly created.
• Despite Muslim’s claims for the ZamZam well (that Allah provides its “inexhaustible water” for over 1 billion believers), it gets all its water from desalinization plants built in the USA and Europe.
• Muslims have no idea why all of the earliest Qiblas were facing Petra (or Jerusalem) up to 706 AD, nor why none are facing Mecca until 715 AD. This suggests Mecca was chosen in the 8th c. as their final sanctuary.
• The antecedents for the Meccan pilgrimage makes more sense with Jerusalem than they do with Petra, as they are not only earlier, but they use many of the same functions.
In Conclusion: As the most important city in history, certainly, someone, somewhere, at some time should have known about this city; yet no-one, anywhere, nor at any time has, proving that it never existed at the time of Muhammad, nor during early Islam…so, if Mecca didn’t exist, then where did both Muhammad and the Qur’an come from? That’s next, so stay tuned…
Note: I use the 'Hafs an Assim' Arabic Qira'at, memorized by 93% of Muslims. I use the translation of Dr Muhammad Taqi-ud-Din Al-Hilali and Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan, published by the Maktaba Dar-us-Salam, at the King Fahd National LIbrary, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Christians choose to just dismiss, hate and seek to dismantle Islam intellectually - that intention is not only ignorant and debased but it is very cowardly and denotes an irrational fear and confirms immense intimidation of Islam. I get the frustration: it's the fastest growing religion in the world; it is a strong and confident monotheistic religion; Islam n's moral and ethical foundations are resilient; it is a religion that does not sacrifice reason for revelation or vice versa; it is an artistic, intellectual and philosophically rich civilization that does not need to lean into western thought to survive or even rest on; despite the rigor of the faith to pray five times a day and fast in the month of ramadan, muslims love and respect piety; the mosques are run down but the congregations pour out into the streets. Most compelling is that the Islamophobia industry wherein 1 billion dollars annually is allocated to deliberately villify and demonize Islam remarkably leads to the opposite outcome -westerners, and especially young people are guided right to it! Why? Because Truth stands strong and still - you may continue to hate and spread misinformation about this majestic religion but God alone Guides. Peace and love!

@@shahin5738free translation: All Muslims agree that the current Qur’an is not the entire Qur’an that Muhammad brought. The books of the Sunnah are full of hadiths that acknowledge that there are verses and surahs that were lost and were not written, such as the verse on stoning the adulterer and the adulteress, and the verse on breastfeeding an adult, which Aisha used to do in order to allow strangers to become her breast-feeding brothers and enter. She can do it whenever she wants and they want, in whatever situation she is and they are, and even if she is alone, but that is after the death of Muhammad. There are also many surahs that have been lost, and one of the most famous of them is what Al-Tabarani narrated in supplication through Abbad bin Yaqoub Al-Asadi... Oh God, we seek Your help and seek Your forgiveness, and we praise You, and we do not disbelieve in You, and we remove and abandon them. Who will cause you to explode? O God, You are the one we worship, and to you we pray and prostrate, and to you we seek and prostrate, we hope for your mercy and fear your torment. Indeed, your torment is attached to the infidels.

Many thanks for the great video Dr Smith. Regarding Mecca, in the Tang Dynasty records, Jia Dan (8th century AD) wrote the Chinese trade route from China to Middle East and MECCA IS MISSING (non-existent). This is supported by archeological findings of the Chinese ceramics made in 8th to 10th century AD.

Even in the 11th century AD, the Mecca and Muhammad at that time sounds to be quite different from what we know today according to the chinese records. Translated to English: Zhufanzhi Juan Zhiguo Author: Zhao Rushi (1170-1231) Southern Song Ma Jiaguo (Mecca) took the country from Ma La (probably Malabar~ not sure) to the west, and arrived more than 80 miles away by land. This is the place where the Buddha Ma Xia Wu (Muhammad) was born, and the Buddha residence is made of five-color jade. Every year when I meet the Buddha's death, I will celebrate the celebration of the great food and promise the country. Behind the tomb of the Buddha, there is always a glow in the night of painting, and no one can get close. If a person is dying and touches the soil on the tomb to coat his chest, the cloud can take advantage of the Buddha's power to superb life. According to the Islamic standard narrative, from the time of Muhammad no one was permitted to pray at graves as it was (and still is) considered 'Bida' (innovation, or heresy), as one is no longer praying to their god Allah, but to another person, and one who is dead.

@@motorcyclesdream6921 Did you know that there are strong reasons to believe that ShangDi -- El Shaddai in Hebrew, could be the Almighty Creator of the Chinese People about 4500 years ago? (.El Shaddai = ShangDi In Chinese, especially in the Cantonese Pronunciation: Shan Dai) Also, Shangdi, (Chinese: “Upper God”) ʾĒl ʿElyōn (Hebrew: "God Upper") Also, Chinese characters are unique from the rest of human characters using pictograms which embed image of the object, and by combining 270 + such simple pictograms (radical components 字根/部首) to form 100,000+ complex words, 90% of which (形声字) carry meaning and sound. Many stories told in the Genesis 创世纪 narrative could be alluded into the Chinese characters pictogram described in the ancient past. 造: God spoke with his Word (口), the universe moved (辶走) upon creation. 園: (yuan2) Garden This character is made up of 囗 (enclosure) + 土 (dirt) +口 (mouth) + 亻(radical for person) + 人 (person). Most people know the story of God creating 2 people (Adam & Eve) whom he placed inside [囗 / enclosure] the garden of Eden. Adam was created when God formed him from dust and breathed life into him; while Eve was created from a rib taken from Adam while he was sleeping 婪 (Greed) = 木tree 木tree 女 woman => The woman Eve's greed to eat the fruits of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The other is tree of life. 裸 (luo3) Nude/Naked This character is made up of 衤(radical for clothes) + 果 (fruit). After Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, their eyes opened and realized they were naked. So the took leaves from the fruit tree to make clothing to hide their nakedness. 船 (boat) = 舟 boat , 八8, 口 mouth = persons => This implies Noah Ark after the Great Flood, only 8 persons survived on thd Ark ( Noah & wife, 3 sons & 3 daughters-in-law = 8) Ancient Chinese myth also has their first king, Fu-hi or Fohi (Chinese Noah) making his appearance on the Mountain of Chin surrounded by a rainbow after the world had been covered with water. Myth says this Chinese Noah also sacrificed animals to the Almighty Aloahiym. The Miao tribe of Southwest China has a similar myth. According to the Miao, the Supreme Almighty destroyed the world by flood because of the wickedness of man. The myth also says Nuah (Noah) had three sons: Lo Han (Ham), Lo Shen (Shem), and Jah-hu (Japheth). In addition, "One of the earliest accounts of the Border Sacrifice is found in the Shu Jing (Book of History), compiled by Confucius (551 to 479 B.C.), where it is recorded that Emperor Shun (2256 to 2205 B.C.) sacrificed to ShangDi." And, A book "Administrative Laws of Great Ming Empire"(《大明会典》), which means respecting and sarcrificing to God was then a legal duty and notion for all the Chinese, especially the rulers. There is also a story of Emperor Tang, the founder of the Xia dynasty (1787 BC) who disguised himself as the white unblemished sacrificial animal to take upon himself the sins of his people such that ShangDi would forgive them and send rain to stop the seven years of drought. The rain came in response to Emperor Tang’s humble actions on behalf of his people. Thus, the ancient Chinese seems to have a understanding that the sacrifice of the unblemished sheep and bull as sin/peace offering similar to the Jews in the old days before the final resolution by Christ. Furthermore, there are ancient chinese records during the event of the birth of Christ, his crucifixion & resurrection. 1. Christ's Birth Astronomy Records of the book of the Han Dynasty "天文志" of "汉书" 156、天文志:二年二月,彗星出牵牛七十馀日。 “In the second month of the second year, the comet was out of Altair for more than 70 days…It is said, ‘Comets appear to signify the old being replaced by the new.’ Altair, the sun, the moon and the five stars are in movement to signify the beginning of a new epoch; The beginning of a new year, a new month and a new day…The appearance of this comet undoubtedly symbolizes change. The extended appearance of this comet indicates that this is of great importance.” Matthew 2:9-11 When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh. Comet appears for 70 days, undoubtly symbolizes changes. The extended appearance of this comet indicates that this is of great importance. (approx 9th march to late may 5th BC) 2. Jesus's Crucifixion History of the Latter Han Dynasty Volume 1 Chronicles of Emperor Guang Wu 7th year "五行六" of "后汉书" 癸亥晦,日有食之,避正殿,寑兵,不听事五日。诏曰:“吾德薄致灾,谪见日月,战栗恐惧,夫何言哉!今方念愆,庶消厥咎。其令有司各修职任,奉遵法度,惠兹元元。百僚各上封事,无有所讳。其上书者,不得言圣 This paragraph originated from 後漢書 (Houchan shu) After the Han Dynasty, and it reads like this: "In the day of Gui Hai, the last day of the month, there was a solar eclipse(the emperor) avoided the throne room, suspended all military activities and did not handle official business for five days. And he proclaimed,‘ My poor character has caused this calamity, that the sun and the moon were veiled. I am fearful and trembling. What can I say?’...Anyone who presents a memorial is not allowed to mention the word ‘holy’." The time frame of such an eclipse phenomenon that happened in the Han Dynasty closely matched with what is described in the Bible Luke 23:44-46 : Luke 23:44-46: And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst. And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost. History of Latter Han Dynasty, Vol. 1,Chronicles of Emperor Guang Wu, 7th year 夏4月壬午,诏曰:比阴阳错谬,日月薄食。百姓有过,在予一人,大赦天下。 光武帝7年 As translated: "Summer, fourth month (of the year), on the day of Ren Wu, the imperial edict reads,‘Yin and Yang have mistakenly switched, and the sun and moon were eclipsed. The sins of all the people are now on one man. Pardon is proclaimed to all under heaven." It is interesting to note that they came to that interpretation without knowing Jesus. 3. Jesus's death History of the Latter Han Annals No.18 Gui Hai 癸亥日蚀,天人崩。 “Eclipse on the day of Gui Hai Man from Heaven died.” 4. Jesus's resurrection (3 days later) History of the Latter Han Annals No.18 Gui Hai 光武建武7年4月丙寅,日有晕抱,白虹贯晕。 后汉书 志18 "During the reign of emperor Guang Wu, on the day of Bing Yin of the 4th month of Jian Wu, a halo-a rainbow-encircled the sun." Three days after the eclipse this was recorded by Chinese astronomers: Christ’s resurrection also apparently caused a celestial event that was observable.

Thank you Jay! So much information to research! *Damascus is close enough.* It is a two hour drive south from Homs to Damascus. Homs used be called Emesa. It was the capital of the Emesne (aka: Sampsigeramid) dynasty (c. 46 BCE --c. 78/79) that were client kings for both the Greek Seleucid empire and the Roman/Byzantine empire. The Ba'al (Lord), of Emesa was "Ilah al-Jabal" (God of the Mountain) he was a sun god, known in Greece/Rome as Aelagabalus/ Heliogabalus/ Elagabalus or El Gabal. The god was supposedly a black rock (cult stone or baetyl) It is pictured on coins. *Worshipping baetyls was a common pagan practice among Arabs. Most of these were meteorites found in the desert.* The Roman emperor Elagabalus (born: Sextus Varius Avitus Bassianus) had been the high priest of El Gabal before he was made emperor. He brought the baetyl (black rock) to Rome and built a temple for it. It is not known what happened to Elagabalus' black rock/baetyl after his assassination in 222 CE. (btw: one of the most disgraceful emperors of Rome!) By 274 CE emperor Aurelian had revived the cult of the sun god as Sol Invictus and El Gabal was merged with Sol Invictus *However I could not find information regarding the use of black rocks/baetyls in the cult of Sol Invictus* Emperor Aurelian's mother had been a high priestess of Sol Invictus in his native region (Dacia or Pannonia) of the Balkans The northern cults of sun gods may not have used black rocks/baetyls? The cult of Sol Invictus was very popular (and eventually was merged with the ancient Roman holiday of Saturnalia (Gregorian calendar: December 17th to December 25) until after the ascension of emperor Constantine I (r. 306 - 337 CE) who the first Christian emperor Rome/Byzantium. He is also known as Constantine the Great.

My understanding from Dr Jay and guests is that Islam definitely started with the Abbasid tribe a good hundred years after the death of the fictional Prophet. The Abbasids wanted legitimacy to rule from god, and so they gathered all the texts the anti trinitarian Arabs were using. They collected all the popular myths of any person called Mhnd. They discarded many but you have all sorts of sayings from warlords, bandits to Jesus. They inserted some of these myths into the texts and called it the Quran with a punishment of death if you disbelieved. Then they linked their tribe to this mythical Prophet with a well know relative of the tribe. However some of these Qurans were getting built before the Abbasid rule which is why there are regional differences. The Abbasids had their infuse views imposed on something which was already taking form, but it was a process already happening. Of course when you got the new Quran, you have to put together the rest of the books to explain and make a religion which makes some kind of sense. Islam is a totally manmade religion and mythology which is akin to the mythology and lore that developed from King Arthur. ie when you dig deep to the era of Arthur there is no artifacts to support the man, the place and the teachings. So what might be god inspired is all the peaceful teachings like 5 Pillers and all the texts the Jihadist also follow the warrior and conquest Mhnd texts.

Pre Abbasid I believe the Umayyads used Jesus as their template Mhnd.

FWIW, Dr Jay, thank you for your work and communication. I see your report as complementary to that of, say, Prof Von Sivers, emeritus of the University of Utah. His side of the coin is explication of the technical theological barriers between Abd al-Malik and other Christians of the late seventh century, which fits very well with Part 1, above. He illuminates the then-currents of Christological and Trinitarian thought in different parts of the Arab, and more distant, world. It fits very well with your lessons re the Dome of the Rock, and its anti-Trinitarian inscriptions. As a frequent visitor to the Middle East, with many learned, devoted and sincere Muslim friends, i appreciate your scholarship and that of your interlocutors. Thank you.

Proved the Arab conquests we’re basically a result of 30 year war between Byzantium & Sassanid Empires. Consequently the outposts were emptied of soldiers. Arabs were living in an arena in Sahara that was considered were barbaric criminals lived. Their was two empires of client states that were Arab in tradition, culture & history. In Byzantium it was called Ghassanids, in Persia it was Lakhmids. As a result these two client states were used by these two empires to keep Arabs of Hijaz in order. Because these Arabs were known clearly as raiders. When they realised those client states had been depleted of soldiers, the Arabs entered into their territory attacking settlements, villages & cities. They went back to a Muhammad a term used for a leader and informed him that they can get booty and instead of that they overtook these areas and depleted military was replaced by children who were easily destroyed. Khalid what a war hero he was, he was just an opportunistic killer.

The true location of Mecca according to the Quran is given to us in Sūrat (verse 7) the story of Moses when his mother feared for his safety, throwing him in AL-YAM referring to a river. In the same chapter towards the end of the Pharaoh and Moses encounter the Quran says "the pharaoh and his soldiers followed them and they've seen from AL-YAM what they've seen" so while we agree Moses was thrown in the AL-Yam or river and at the end Pharaoh & his army sunk in AL-Yam we associated two different meanings to AL-YAM, we claim the first AL-YAM is the river nile then contradict ourselves by claiming the second mention of AL-YAM refers to the Red Sea where the pharaoh and his army supposedly met their fate. From our understanding both instances refer to the river Moses was placed as a child, same place pharaoh and his army sunk. its clear AL-YAM refers to the river nile and if so Mecca can't be in modern Saudi Arabia. according to the Quran Mecca is located somewhere along the AL-YAM or river ,if Israel crossed a river and not the Red Sea it only means they never left the Egyptian continent they just went too the other side of the river following the river until they reached their destination.

Watch Bart Ehrman. He's one of the world's preeminent Bible scholars and former evangelical Christian who deconstructed his faith and deconverted from Christianity as a result of his study.
