Gianmarco’s shortened Hanukkah prayer is even shorter than my half-Jewish family’s that relies on my stoner father to remember the prayer hahahah

I also am realizing how extremely screwed it was to have us 8th graders read a version of Romeo & Juliet that cuts out the fact that they had sex, so we’re all just confused why they’re killing themselves over someone they’ve barely talked to and just had lusted after through windows.

Didn’t even think abt this happening but wow. We watched the 1968 version w the nudity in correspondence w the play where we did read about the sex. Sucks that some districts and schools censor things.

Idk why the religious talk triggered this memory but it's silly so I'm gonna share. When I was a kid my mom was a bookkeeper for a church and during the summers me and my sister would often go to work with her. It was extremely boring and we were always looking for ways to make it more interesting. One time me and my sister went into the sanctuary and wrote "spongebob squarepants" and "sandy cheeks" in all the guestbooks in the pews. We thought it was the greatest prank ever lol

As a member of the alternative community I would like to add some details to the clothing style: People often confuse Goth fashion with Emo fashion. Emo people wear very tight jeans. Goth people wear very big pants and those pants are called Tripp pants. They're very wide and they get wider the further they go down to the floor usually covering shoes. Idk how people don't "Tripp" lol they usually have a lot of zippers chains emblems like biohazard or skulls or radioactive maybe some safety pins dangling crossing chains or straps in the back it could be black pants with neon colors they're usually with removable bottom so they can be Tripp shorts as well. But also there's a lot of different kinds of goth clothing like there is Victorian Goth that looks like old style 1700s vampires with lace gloves and traditional old style fancy clothing. There's goths to have a white painted face with harsh makeup high cheekbones really messy tall teased hair kind of like Souxsie and the Banshees look. Fishnets, Corsets, Demonia up to the knee tall chunky platforms, chain belts, occult symbols, spike collars and lace chokers. Colored, super straight, asymmetrical, sides of hair shaved. sometimes. Punk styles have mohawks and shaved hair they also have their own variations. Punks usually have jackets There might be spikes on them big chunky leather boots that cover the calf or the ankle usually holes in the jeans. Think of Spider Punk's outfit something like that, a lot of patches on the jacket and pins things like that. Piercings, tattooes, black lipstick, eyeliner, spike bracelets, there's some overlap.

as a long-time goth this is inaccurate but not entirely incorrect imo 👍 to be clear tho tripp is a specific brand of clothes, inspired by anything from 2000s cybergoth and rave subcultures to that nu metal jnco jeans type look, + emo and goth influence. which i love and have owned for years now btw! but they are by no means related to being a goth or a signifier of being goth at all, maybe to people who only know about the goth subculture from tiktok tho 🤷‍♂️

"Cans" as a term for headphones has been around for a long time. Couldn't tell you how long, but at least close to 50 years. I think it's a reference to the idea of tying a string between two cans to talk string-distance away from each other.

So for the travel one it’s an Islamic ruling so for travel we’re allowed to shorten and combine 4 out of the 5 prayers So the early morning one is still done on its own and the other four we combine the first two together and the last two together. It’s because travel is hard and it’s to make it easier on Muslims. So it’s not a work around our prophet literally did it and told us to do it for travel.

If you miss a prayer you can make it up anytime. A lot of people I know were not very religious in their teens. But when they got religious later in life they calculate how many prayers they missed and make it up. Some have hundreds they have missed. I still have a list of prayers from highschool that I need to make up 🤫

I have to agree with Gianmarco about the skinny jeans. I can’t bend, squat, or take stairs as easily in baggy jeans. I couldn’t figure out why I kept going back to my old skinny jeans after having “switched” to relaxed fit since it’s in now and just figured it out from him talking about it. I can move much easier in skinny jeans. They’re like a second skin.

i am an exmuslim and some people say you can't actually make up for the prayers and that's a myth etc. For traveling it is not obligatory to pray if the distance is greater than 90 kms. But i don't really know, there are probably people practising or intrepenting islam differently. I really enjoyed this episode even though I am not muslim anymore.

Sorry Russel, but as a public school kid from PA, we did go to NYC by bus for field trips, and we still ended up on the subway and just loitering on the sidewalk all the time for no reason. For some reason theres something about school field trips that cannot be planned well enough that seems kids always experience at least one hour of being in a hold pattern and just standing around waiting. And its never in a convenient area. (Using the subway felt like the most educational part of the trip, sorry Don Quixote and WWII history museum)

A lot of things I disagree with about the Israel takes in this episode but the one thing I will point out specifically in terms of facts is when Russel at 1:03:05 says that Israel has been doing nothing at all to try and get them back. That’s just patently untrue. There have been deals offered and military operations ran time and time again. I’m not looking to go back and forth about ethical right and wrong in this comment, just that that statement is factually incorrect and ignorant.
@ahmee9182

it’s okay, that’s just your bias. people disagree with that pretense. the occupation never acted in good faith during these « negotiations ». denying the right of return to all palestinian refugees who were ethnically cleansed while simultaneously championing birthright trips to jews of all nationalities… that should make it obvious enough to sane people. but hey, indoctrination makes it difficult to look at this in good faith. go repeat your lies somewhere else. #freepalestine

Yikes. YOUR comment is just factually incorrect and ignorant. Israel has killed so many of the hostages there aren’t enough still alive for its own hostage exchange proposal. They don’t really want the hostages back because then they would have to stop bombing and killing. You’re not looking to go back and forth about “ethical right and wrong” because you know that you’re wrong, but you “feel” that you’re right- just like every other Zionist. It would benefit you to seriously educate yourself on the history of apartheid, oppression, and genocide worldwide. It is extremely clear what this is, and it is horrific.
