This week, I make these topographical island pendants! The clear areas have smoky quality and the “land” portion is this dark gold-looking color. Not what I’d expected, as the color was called “Beetle Blue” (Eye Candy Mica Powder). These resin crafts are made with a multi-step epoxy resin process.
The large drop-shaped pendant, I attached a jewelry “Glue On Bail,” then domed the resin piece after.
I wasn’t sure if I’d crack the second jewelry piece drilling it. Had to take the chance, though!
Hope you enjoy! Tell me your thoughts below 😉 .

Thank you @jerrycallender9352 ! I didn't come up with the use of liquid latex for this purpose myself; I had it suggested to me in a comment once, and didn't understand until I saw the use in another KZbinr's video. During another video ("Layered Ocean Resin Charms") I figured out a better way to apply it, too: dipping the piece into it, then going back and "painting" any missed spots after the fact. Thanks for writing! I appreciate you! 💖🌼

Do you use the epoxy resin to fill in the bubble holes in the back of the mold?? Thanks for the video, I've jst started doing the island molds, getting lots of tips.
@angiebcraftsdesign
@angiebcraftsdesign Жыл бұрын
Yeah! I used the same type of 2:1 epoxy resin to "dome" the surface on these & fill in the bubble. I'm not sure if it's really the best choice, as it's thin, runs off the edges if I'm not careful, and does not make a high dome, but I love how well it blends in with the resin that is already there. Because it's so thin, there is nearly *no* bubbles, too. It's like it's seamless! Between all the layers and steps that I take to make these types of projects... it also takes me ages to finish my resin projects . I have to find a better way. Thank you for commenting! Let me know if you have any tips & how yours came out, as well! 🌷

Hi Sushila! The blue stuff? That's some "painter's tape" from the hardware store. It's like masking tape, but meant to leave less stickiness behind. I put it on the pieces before drilling incase the drill slipped, maybe it would prevent scratching. I was worried about the drilling maybe splitting the piece, too, since this brand of resin seems to be more brittle. I'm not sure if the tape helped in that regard, but the piece didn't split, so I'll keep using it :) LoL! Thank you, for watching, that was a great question! Happy crafting! :)

Liked your video, but why do you use latex ?
@angiebcraftsdesign
@angiebcraftsdesign Жыл бұрын
Hello, pep Asa! I had been using resin that is very thin, and likes to flow. When it inevitably runs over the side of the cured piece, the new resin adheres to the old resin, ruing the surface of the underside. It often looks like hard plastic drips. Actually, just looking at it, you can see my over-run really well at 8:30. Those hexagons would have been part of the face of the charm permanently if there wasn't a barrier between the original charm's resin and the new "doming" resin. The latex creates a barrier. As the resin flows over the side of the piece, It moves *on top of the latex. Once it's cured, I can peel the latex off and the "drips" come with it, leaving the original poured resin with it's nice surface. I think people can use tape for this purpose as well. I learned the technique from other KZbinrs' videos. I hope this makes sense :). Thanks for the question! 🌼🌻

Hello, @Luisa maria! Thank you for writing. I am not sure if this translation is correct. It is asking if you would use glue to protect the craft , pendant. In this example, I only used 2-part Epoxy Resin. I mixed more epoxy resin on additional days to "Dome" the surface so it looks nicer. That is, to make the front and back of the pieces rounded. The new Epoxy Resin adhered to the already hardened resin seamlessly in this project, which was great :) . I did not add any additional surface protection beyond this "doming." I hope that helps :) ! Happy Crafting!

@angiebcraftsdesign

@@Ne_tvoe_delo1 you know? I think it may be the kind of resin used. I've only used 3 brands. This was my first 2:1 ratio epoxy resin. It is too thin to float sprinkles and glitter in, but it is great for clear pours! (so far). The other two that I have are both 1:1 ratio resins. They are thicker and cure more quickly, but they get (sometimes a *lot*) of bubbles. I have another set of 2:1 that I have not used yet. I'm curious if it will also be as clear, and have few bubbles. I think, if I don't need to float glitter, I will buy the one used here again. It is called "Pebeo Gedeo Crystal" casting resin. Don't give up :) !

What is the purpose of liquid latex?

Hello Celine Foff! Great question! So, I'm not very good at doming, and actually have been using resin that is very thin, and likes to flow. Those hexagons would have been part of the face of the charm permanently if there wasn't a barrier between the original charm's resin and the new "doming" resin. I've able to get them off, leaving the thing looking good at 8:55 👍. I made a set of clover charms in an earlier video where I didn't know how to do this, and then tried to sand off the over-run... it was a mess, haha! (kzbin.info/www/bejne/hWral32CmsqUnKM). Around 8:10 in that video, if you want to see.

@@angiebcraftsdesign great, thank you. It all makes sense now. I find (normal) tape not sticky enough. Do you think if we put a bit of oil/cream. We can get the same results? I try to find out how to have many but very very small cells. Can you help?
@angiebcraftsdesign
@angiebcraftsdesign Жыл бұрын
@@celinefoff1863 Oh, I don't know about the cream or oil. I think I would have a hard time covering the piece all the way, or keeping it from rubbing off as I handle the piece. It sounds like a good thing to experiment with, though :) I'm not sure what you mean regarding the small cells. Are you casting a lot of very small pieces? I think, if you don't need to dome them / coat the back side, you do not have to worry about the latex portion of the process 👍
