Too pricey for what it is, its basicaly the same as a Seiko SNK 8 series for more than triple the price.Making something a limited edition does not automaticaly make it more desirable, you have to have something a little special for that, and this doesnt seem to have any extra value above most field watches that cost a lot less.

I’m not particularly keen on the limited addition idea. Feels a little pretentious

Dial is a bit too busy especially for a 37 mm ... Maybe without logos would have been nicer

The Logos is what makes it known that it's special. I like it but perhaps if it only had the TGV being that it's marked Islander in red at 6 marker..

Nice watch but I hated the numbers. Because it looks like it was above pressed. It gives the feeling of an artificial font that has been manipulating rather than an original font. Even though I liked everything, I wouldn't buy it just because of these numbers.

So, numerals from the Rolex Explorer, 12 o'clock index from the Orient Defender, hands from the Tudor Ranger? I had hoped Marc & TGV would have been a bit more original instead of borrowing from other manufacturers.

Overall it’s really nice. Maybe one day I’ll appreciate smaller watches more.
@Stricko7210 ай бұрын
That's a great field watch, I've watched a video where they explained the design process a good watch if your interested (on the urban gentry channel) 37mm yes it can seem small nowadays, but field watches were always a smaller watch. If you don't gel with it, try it on different straps, also they are bringing a version 3 put of it next year so keep your eyes peeled for it. I'm not into field watches but I've had a foray into it and got myself and bought a Circula Protrail, it's a bigger watch and the specs and build quality is top notch,and it does feel and look big on the metal bracelet but transforms into a more fieldy type when on nylon, rubber or leather. Its more pricey though, but built like a tank. Pleasure as always watching your videos, cheers.

How many turns of the crown is a full wind? I watched the launch video for this and I couldn't believe they just removed the rotor and left the slipping mainsping/barrel, winding a mechanical is more satisfying because you feel the spring tension increase more than an auto and you can feel when it is fully wound. I like TGV, but the dial design looks a bit messy on this one. Sorry to be so critical, but it sounds like you'll flip this one, and you have other much nicer watches 👍
@WATCHingJames10 ай бұрын
The positive is you can’t over wind it. But yes. I think I’ll be letting this one go.

According to Marc at LIW, the mechanical sold more than 500 in the first 8 hours. The second 500 took a few days to go through, so it's hard to judge which one was the bigger hit.

It took a couple of weeks to seek out. I think the size and number sold affected that.

Thank you for a great review. I own this piece (no. 777, which I am happy about because in my culture 7 is a lucky number). Problem is, like James I somehow cannot connect to the watch and am thinking of letting it go. I have to add that my reservations are purely about the design; technically the watch is very fine and I am finding it to be super accurate.

Looking at the specs, the watch is a bit overpriced, if it wasn't a TGV collab it would Be like 200 bucks. I hope its the right one for you James, but to me its overpriced, with a downgraded movement and a weird grinded caseback. The skx islander is still their best imo.
