This looks beautiful. We hear so many stories about Guatemala, but I have friends from Guatemala who love their home town. They came here to go to college and have work here, but they go home two or three times a year. I guess every place has its good and it's bad.

I live in the Antigua area it is wonderul I am headed to the capital for three days...my husband who adores animals is headed to the zoo a great one, while I shop the first day. There are good places in Guatemala City and places to avoid as in DC, NYC, many cities around the world. Antigua is VERY safe zero problem anywhere in Guatemala in over 20yrs living here but early on I paid attention to local advice where to NOT go parts of the city etc. just as I do in MIami. Now I pretty much have my favorite places.

@@latinaalma1947 Ditto! Media just loves to inflate the bad that happens in every city, because good news don’t sell. But you’re right, it’s just about avoiding the slums/bad areas anywhere in any major city in the world. You’ll be fine. I’m actually more afraid of being shot while doing groceries (or any non dangerous activity in a non dangerous place) in the US to be honest.

Drove from Belieze to visit the ruins in Guatemala. Beautiful tropical mountains especially after it rains, you will see a rainbow over the tropical mountains.

Cosi vero. So true. Is so rich and beautiful the United Kingdom of Guatemala established since 1609 and that extends from El Soconusco (today Chiapas) to part of Panama. Guatemala is 12th producer of silver in the world and 20th producer of gold besides having massive reserves of nickel, jade and so many other natural resources too bad for almost a century big foreign anglosaxon corporations have been taking almost everything. Long live Juan Santamaria the heroe of Costa Rica who died in battle against the anglo pirates. The Malvinas belong to Argentina, The Esequibo belongs to Venezuela and Belice belongs to Guatemala. Guatemala exploited and sabotaged for almost a century but never gives up. God bless

The Land of Jacobo Arbenz, Miguel Angel Asturias (Noble Literature Prize and Lenin Prize) and Kjell Eugenio Laugerud (the last president of Guatemala who decades ago kept the Guatemalan currency Quetzal paired with the French Franc and the US dollar).
