Isle of Lewis - Oldest Rocks in Britain and Scouting Locations

Episode 1 from the Isle of Lewis and Harris Series, sees me making the ferry crossing from Ullapool to Stornaway. I encounter some unexpected wildlife and explore the Butt of Lewis - home to the oldest rocks in Britain, a lighthouse and has the title of being the windiest place in Britain too!

Hi! this is fantastic, I'm from Lewis and have lived here my whole life and your enthusiasm for the island is great! I do believe people on the island take its beauty for granted. I don't know what the bones you found were but they won't have been left by foxes, we don't have any!

Great 1st video of the Lewis & Harris series, Kim 😚 How cool that you saw those Dolphin's on your ferry across from Ullapool to Stornoway. Beautiful nature at its best eh? Fascinating to see & hear all about The Butt of Lewis. And wow that coastline is stunning with all its rugged cliffs, looks fab. Really hard to get your head around how old those rocks are , quite mind-blowing really, wow! Lovely beach, so relaxing. But as you say with weather, it can turn very quickly as seen in the trailer for next week video! But, it's all part of the experience I guess ,,& great to see that you don't look annoyed about it at all, infact lovely to always see your positivity about conditions your in & how you always embrace it!

Not sure exactly when it closed but believe the old base is now the local airfield there, and the walks havent changed I am sure, and recognised the church spire as you left the ferry but guess there is a great change around the town in the last 40 odd years.

I first became aware of The Outer Hebrides through an article in National Geographic a few years ago. Then I read the “Lewis Trilogy,” three mystery novels set in Lewis, by Peter May. The bookstore in Ullapool would have plenty of copies, I bet. Now, we have your series, which has gotten off to a cracking start. My desire to see it for myself is growing quickly. Thanks.

Thank you so much Kim your first day looked wonderful. I am so pleased you saw the dolphins from the ferry. That lighthouse reminds me of the landscape down by the Ardnamurchan lighthouse I hope you got your shots.The bones were intriguing I guess they must have belonged to something like a greylag goose because they have teeth to eat the grass but I wonder what caught them ? Could it be a bird of prey that ate it, what does Ed think ? It looked like a great beach :D I am on countdown to my October trip to Scotland now and your videos are going to keep me going until then :D Teddy

Wow! Great weather but clearly not for long. Red brick lighthouse, how cotton mills of Lancashire, very rare. I really think Runrig should give you permission to use their music in your videos, their stuff would really compliment your videos. Note to self to visit that bookshop in Ullapool.

Interesting Canadian connection: the official residence of the leader of the opposition in Canadian parliament is named Stornaway. Perhaps due to the wind coming from that side of the parliament?

Kim Grant ... one other observation on your narration, Kim. You had all the bases covered with “North America or Canada”. Canada is part of North America 😋. Great video as usual. Can you name any birds with teeth? I'm guessing those bones are from furry critters eaten by something that doesn't eat bones. Dogs eat bones, I think cats don't, at least not big ones. Dunno about foxes.
