Maughold is "Mack-hold"! Also, when crossing the tram lines listening for the whistle of the tram (more of a hoot really) - and anyway the rattling old things make enough noise... Shoprite is not associated with Sainsbury, just sell their stuff. It started as a "pile it high/sell it cheap" place, but not an independent chain in the Island only. On the northern prom you parked on you can still see the holes in the promenade footpath that once held the posts for barbed wire, as the boarding houses were a POW camp during WW2, and at the end of the war they just filled in the holes and it hasn't been resurfaced yet! As a small boy I remember the steamers arriving at the Queen's Pier - the whole thing shook at it hit! the last time I was seasick was on a minesweeper - tied up at the pier :-( Love the videos, making me homesick, though don't miss the cold, wind and rain...

Now then you two, no piggy back riding on the beach. You'll frighten the Donkeys. 😬. You gave me a giggle with that. Poor Carol trotting up the sand with a burly copper on her back. My Grandad ( on mums side of the family ) lived on Hayling Island and this trip puts me very much in mind of that. As you and I have both observed, it's a trip back in time for driving and parking conditions. My first wife had a cousin who live in Douglas on the isle of Man. Whenever she came over she would fly and rent a car as it was apparently cheaper than bringing your own on the ferry. Thirty years ago she used to say traffic was sparse and it doesn't look like it's changed much. Ken, you need to do what my son used to do when he'd go back home for a week or two and stay with his grandparents. He made a sign from some cardboard and wrote on it with marker pens " Feed the Bears ". I didn't bother to ask if it worked, my mum was Jewish she fed the bloomin' world, never mind the ruddy bears. 🐻
@LifeistooshortCK3 жыл бұрын
My mum was the same, always plenty of food. I loved driving on the island because it is still quiet. We used to have family holidays on Hayling Island in a rented caravan, bit like Butlins only cheaper. Great entertainment in those days 😀

@@LifeistooshortCK My grandad had a small site with a bun gal and two or three Van's on it. We went down often in the summer. Do you remember Sprinkos store ? They used to rent out those funny four wheeled bikes. All the large caravan sites had a clubhouse and the acts used to go from one to the other on a sort of rotor basis. If I think about it I can still smell the gas lamps in the caravan when you first lit them.🤔😬

Nice to see Ramsey seafront again. Hopefully you went into Mooragh Park. I remember as a child there being little motorboats on the lake that you could hire and sail around in. There's also a climb up to a viewpoint at the rear of the lake (or at least there was) that gives you a great vista across Royal Ramsey. You should have contacted Big Clive and you could have had a quick KZbin meetup as he lives in Ramsey. I would have thought that the Manx Tourist Board would have camping permits - not sure where they are in Ramsey, but their main base is in the Sea Terminal in Douglas. Oh, and the lighhouse is pronounced "Mack-Eld".

Also on the west is Niarbyl (the cottage has featured in a few films ie Waking Ned) but park in the cafe carpark seeing as you don't like steep roads haha! Make sure you pop into Fenella Beach by Peel Castle and go down south right along to the end of Port Erin prom where you'll be able to park the van. They sell great pizza that end and some lovely drinkies to be had at Foraging Vintners (both ends). Some gorgeous views if you go back over the Sloc to Peel. We have some beautiful plantations too, with plenty of parking and fun things to do. The Coffee Cottage is a great place to get a cuppa at South Barrule plantation and some interesting things to see. @@LifeistooshortCK For some reason I’m blocked from commenting directly on your channel? Therefore I’ll comment here for your future reference, it may also help anyone else wishing to stay overnight in a camper/motorhome at Smeale which you promote in a later episode. You are only allowed to stay at Smeale if you have a permit to do so and the vehicle must have its own toilet facility. There is a three consecutive nights stay rule in force as well. No fires and BBQ’s must be off ground. Certain areas may be roped off to protect nesting birds. The large orange ‘Beach Buddies’ wheelie bins found on beaches are for jetsam only and not general waste. Smeale is patrolled by a security company, I’m guessing you were lucky not to have been challenged. Because of the small size of your vehicle and because you parked on the concrete, your presence may have fooled passing patrols into thinking you were dog walkers and that may be why you weren’t challenged. We stay at Smeale regularly during the season and are regularly asked to show our permit. They take vehicle registration numbers too so that they can check the three nigh maximum stay is not ignored, it also assists them to know which vehicles to turn away because 15 is the maximum number permitted to stay on any night during the season. I’m commenting here as I said because someone has blocked me from commenting directly on your channel? I wouldn’t like anyone getting into trouble for staying at such a lovely spot without the necessary paperwork. To help I’ll leave the relevant link below. Stay safe 👍🇮🇲 www.gov.im/categories/leisure-and-entertainment/camping/

I loved the wee toddler with the massive dog on the leash. Perhaps they could fit it with a saddle for him.

If they did I would film it especially if it was chasing the two dogs on the beach 😁👍😱

Come on Charlie Brown, you’ve got to make sure the driver is well fed, a banana simply won’t suffice 😆

New to your videos. How much research do you do in advance? Not a camper person, but do know camping is easy and cheap in the park. Also was shocked at your search for a bacon butty. Lived here 30 years and harder to find a croissant than a bacon butty lol

Quite a bit and we also tell viewers where we are going and ask for tips. Lot's of people helped with them.

Ahoy Pirates! Hats off again! Thanks for the magnificent dronescapism, Ken! Those colors and shapes, the view is priceless over there! The sea is most definitely the dearest part for a sailor, aye! The dogs, awww, touching my weak spot again! Every captain has a heart, after all. .) One question: do you think it's easy to travel there on foot /public transport/ too? Or by ship?
@LifeistooshortCK3 жыл бұрын
Public transport is plentiful and reliable on the island. Trains, trams, buses and taxis. 👍

I can tell that you’d love to have a dog or two of your own, but the NV200 might be a bit small for 3 or 4 of you. 😁

Just out of interest, how many miles per gallon do you get on average. My van is quite powerful at 170 bhp and a long wheel base, in Scotland I got about 30 mpg, I bet you get much more in the little red camper, another benefit of a smaller van ?
@LifeistooshortCK3 жыл бұрын
We normally get around the 50mpg but we were quite surprised how that dropped on the Isle of Man, due to all the hills I think. It came out at 45.5 mpg average 👍

@@LifeistooshortCK that is very good, it is about the same as my Mercedes e class diesel car, never mind a van !

0:48 "Nar Box" - Ken, this one isn't listed in your Amazon link, could you put it on please? I'd like to know more about it. Thanks...

Hi. I don’t list it as I am not sure it’s good value for money. Search for Gnarbox 2.0 SSD for more information about it 👍

@@LifeistooshortCK Thank you, will have a look. Anything not working well with it? I had something similar 20 years ago.(PCMCIA to 2.5" HDD, USB 1.0 - slow!)

@@hellowallace it let me down on a recent trip and it needed to be re-flashed using a PC so I had to wait until I got home. Since doing that its worked very well. I like that all you have to do is feed it SD cards and it does the rest without intervention.

@@LifeistooshortCK Thank you...Maybe it is still safer to bring a laptop on a trip, just in case.
