So, I've binge watched hours of your videos. I own 3 green and black dart frogs and have seeded their enclosure with springs and dwarf whites. Today I purchased powder oranges and am going camping to search for wild isopods. I HAVE TO SAY.. so many beautiful isopods you've shown and the information you've blessed this beginner with in all of your videos are making me REALLY consider starting a few cultures. Im an animal lover having bred from snakes to fish Id love to try my hands on these little guys. Again, thanks for all the informative videos.

Mind Freak thanks so much for your support and viewership! Really appreciate your comment! Word of caution: I wouldn’t recommend keeping anything that isn’t a dwarf isopod species with dart frogs. Some isopods are quite ravenous and could threaten your frogs or their eggs. Dwarf whites, dwarf purples or dwarf gray stripes are the way to go! :)
@_ksen_17154 жыл бұрын
@@Reptiliatus Much appreciated, thanks for the reply. Yes, Id like to start cultures of each to supplement their diet. ie; springtails, and the dwarf colorations. Ive shy'd away from culturing springtails since my culture was invaded by nematodes and again fairly new to the hobby like all beginners.... lack of research. But, seeing your videos with cohabitation I'm certain I'd have more success following your setups. I also tried google searching your sales page and had little success.

I had no idea on some of the stuff you mentioned about the isopods. Like I've said before I do a lot of bioactive, but never really kept isopods as a species alone. Just kind of in one enclosure with other decaying scavengers all together. You kind of inspired me to try my hand at actually keeping them on their own. Really cool video D!

Don't know if someone else said this, but there are two types of calico morphs in the hobby. One is the type you have, where the males have a wild-type appearance. The other type, all of them have the calico patterning. I first got them from Bugs in Cyberspace, but he doesn't seem to offer them anymore. You can find what I believe to be the same morph sold as "Orin's calico" (after Orin McMonigle (sp?) I believe). I was actually surprised when I ordered calicos from a different vendor and found wild-type males in the container lol. They're really cool, though.

So I have what I think is an important question by the way love your Channel I just got my first little isopod and springtail mix and I'm wondering it said not to put holes in the tub but I drilled the smallest drill holes I can find so they have somewhat airflow but the shoes that came with it said to not and just pop the top every 3 days my question is do you drill holes in your isopods containers
@Reptiliatus4 жыл бұрын
Leonard Page Hi! Thanks for your support! Personally all my containers lids have a mesh square cut out of them for ventilation and many of them also have cross ventilation tiny holes drilled about the top lengths so that there is more flow. That’s mostly for the larger Spanish species that need it. Keep on top of your humidity as the more airflow, the faster the enclosures dry out :)

Do you change your isopod substrate and if yes, how do you do it, to get all the babies out of there?
@Hirobian4 жыл бұрын
I kind of regret releasing the isopod I had found in my apartment. I have always been fascinated by them but never took the initiative to make an enclosure and start keeping them. I am about to move so I likely won't find another of that kind. Are the ones that we occasionally find inside the house the same species as those found locally outside under wood? They certainly look similar to me.

I’m new to the hobby and I have a few questions. I’ve been using a coconut fiber and Cyprus mulch mix for my Isopods and the really seem to enjoy this, is it ok to continue to use this mixture? Next ive been keeping some of them in a plastic cricket carrier and they seem to be doing well in this as well but I haven’t seen any videos with anyone else housing them this way. Should I switch them out into a different container? Lastly I feel like I have to feed them much more than people are recommending. Other than veggies I alternate giving them fish flakes, oats and tiny freeze dried shrimp. I’ll feed them I’m the morning and when I get off of work at night 99% of the food is gone. So should I leave more in at a time or just continue to feed them daily?
@danielleb.70554 жыл бұрын
Definitely always enjoy your videos. Just a suggestion I'm no pro by any means! But anyway I think that maybe you could improve your substrate for the isopods that may help with your success with all of them especially the ones that are struggling or having a slow start. Idk some videos I watch or try to educate myself and what I do the substrate has more substance to it. Maybe try a different type also decaying wood and decaying leaves not just cork bark and typical reptile substrate. I do know that there needs to be a humidity gradient but from what I can see the entire enclosures seem super dry. ( for the majority and excluding the 1 or that enjoy it a little less humid)Just a thought. Just a side note you are super fortunate to work with all of these amazing creatures! Have a great day!
@pricklypear17044 жыл бұрын
I like your respectful criticism! But I don't think his cultures are very dry. It may appear that way because the leaves are dry, but the substrate beneath the leaves appears to be moist from what I can see.
