Gabriel, Your trip has been seamless . Pre history , Bible history ,geology, physical and cultural geography , until now , with tourists roaming around . Before Jerusalem, Israel , and Bethlehem , then Cyprus , and now Cyprus again , I have the feeling of being back in university . Of course , walking and listening to you puts your “lectures” on another plane as listening to lectures, reading texts, maps, getting credits , …repeat . You are talking us through , and showing us history ! I appreciate your time and efforts so much . The touristy stuff can not hold a candle to walking and listening to history . Thank you so much for each and every post .❣️

There are quite a few places open in Jerusalem on shabbat. The First Station (named for where the old Ottoman train station used to be) has bars & restaurants open on Shabbat, also Cinema City ( a mall with cineplex, shops & restaurants has some cafes open. There are other places too, you just have to look for them or ask a taxi what's open.

Hi Gabriel, that was an amazing road trip through the mountains and the city of Jericho and the Dead Sea. The mountain caves were amazing, you could easily spend all day walking around even though much was close. I love the fact that religious traditions are kept in this modern world of the living, religion still has a place in the modern world and the commandments of Moses are still held in high regard. The Bible is still used as a point of reference when taking an oath. Few things have stood the test of time and maintain their core values as religion. The Bible is not just a history book of the past but a reference of knowledge and the experiences to live by them. What can you say about the Dead Sea's healing is well-documented and respected you can even find Dead Sea soap sold in today's markets for its healing skin properties.

There are places that are open on Shabbat in the city center (and elsewhere as well), you have to know where to look. There are places open on Hillel street - like Aroma coffee/restaurant, a McDonald's and a few more restaurants. There's the Feingold Court that you enter from an alley off Jaffa street, with a few restaurants - you passed it on your way to the old city. When you walk down the main streets you think that everything is closed but thank god it isn't and you can still grab a nice meal and coffee on a Friday night even in Jerusalem. There are also a few cinemas that are open but not in the city center.

With a salinity of 342 g/kg, or 34.2% (in 2011), it is one of the world's saltiest bodies of water - 9.6 times as salty as the ocean - and has a density of 1.24 kg/litre, which makes swimming similar to floating.

We arrived in Jerusalem on a Friday late afternoon. We stayed near where you did but closer to the outdoor market. I don't know if you got a chance to walk thru that market on Saturday. Totally closed and many of the closed garage door type doors were painted interestingly. It was empty and weird. My cousin lives in Tel Aviv and she gave me two loaves of banana bread that she made and they were what we ate Saturday. We did find a store that sold wine open but that was it. Made for a great day. I would think you went into the old city Friday night. Talk about crazy chaotic! I believe filming is highly discouraged. Also as far as the Dead Sea? When we went we were told little kids cannot go in and it is because of salt getting in their eyes.

There are a lot of places open on Shabbat in Jerusalem, just ask a taxi to take you there. Regarding the Dead Sea, children are allowed to go in, but it's best if they go in with their parents, because the water is so salty that even if you rub your eyes with a wet hand it will sting.
@annethall Жыл бұрын
@@ArnoldSteinberg not every traveler can take taxis. The area we were in was too empty to find a taxi. Israel can be very expensive for some of us. We did the Dead Sea in Jordan and small kids were not allowed to put more than their feet in it where we were.

@@annethallIf you stayed near the Mahane Yehuda market then by a 10 minute walk you could have reached coffee shops and restaurants that are open on Shabbat. Ben Yehuda street is closed but on Hillel street which is 2 streets a way from Ben Yehuda there are eateries open on Shabbat. Also Jaffa street looks totally closed but there is a cluster of restaurants that are open if you go through an alley off Ben Yehuda to Feingold court.
