What IP says at 17:55 applies to modern people just as much as it did to the ancients. We humans do not like to owe anything to anyone. We want to be in charge, we want to be the masters of our own destiny, we are the beginning and the end. That is the reason why eastern religions and atheism are getting more popular in the western world. We love the idea of works righteousness better than the idea of radical grace and mercy, because that will force us to take a look at ourselves and recognise our own weakness and need and our utter depravity.

What people groups in Rwanda are monotheistic?
@ericgatera7149
@ericgatera7149 4 жыл бұрын
@@InspiringPhilosophy Actually they were all monotheist. The ancient kingdom of Rwanda-Urundi (which became two African countries: Rwanda and Burundi) had 3 social classes which also was regarded as ethnic groups during the colonial time, namely Tutsi, Hutu and Twa. These 3 groups share the same language (Rwanda has always had one language for all its people), and hence one form of spiritual expression. They believed in an impersonal force known as "Imana" that was immanent in all creation. It is this word, "Imana" that the missionaries (Catholics, Protestants) later translated as God. Even Rwandan Muslim use the word 'Imana' to refer to Allah. At time though, Imana was referred not as an impersonal force. As one of our popular 'imigani' (cultural proverb) says, "Imana yirirwa ahandi igataha i Rwanda", which can be translated as "Imana spends the day elsewhere but spends the night in Rwanda". Hence, Imana was regarded as having a special link with the Rwandan people (Abanyarwanda) but nevertheless, its divine immanence interacted with other human groups beyond Rwanda. www.kimenyi.com/imana-in-rwanda.php

Hello. So, what I want to do with this message is to simply show what the Gospel is. I am not trying to force my belief down people's throats. It's your choice whether you want to accept it. So, a question: Do you think you are a good person? If so, have you ever stolen anything, lied, looked lustfully, watched adult material? All of those are sins and anyone who sinned is not good(on God's standard). You, I and most( most because babies don't sin, and maybe specifically mentally Ill people) purely human beings have violated God's moral law. Since God is just, He can't let sin go just like that.So is there any hope? Yes, there is! Out of love and mercy, God became a human being, Jesus Christ. Jesus lived a sinless life and finally died on the cross to bear the punishment we deserve, we deserve to be punished because we have sinned. The reason why blood must be spilled for remission of sins is because the life of the flesh is in the blood, in the Old Testament Jews sacrificed animals for sins but the sacrifice of animals were enough for remission of some sins, not all. It wasn't infinite, unlike Jesus's. Jesus is the Lamb of God, the ultimate sacrifice for sins which is enough for all sins that have been done, are done and will be done. The Old Testament sacrifice of animals, the spilled blood of those animals could cleanse people from some sins but not ALL, unlike Jesus's. He was buried and rose again. His resurrection proved that His death was enough to pay our penalty, the penalty for our sins. Jesus paid our penalty and in order to accept the free gift of salvation from God, we must trust in Jesus's spilled Blood, His finished work on the Cross for our Salvation. And then your sins will be forgiven because of what Christ did, you will be saved. See: Romans 3:10 KJV, Romans 3:23 KJV, Romans 5:12 KJV, Romans 6:23 KJV, Romans 5:8-9 KJV Romans 10:9-10 KJV, Ephesians 2:8-9 KJV, John 3:16 KJV, Leviticus 17:11 KJV, Ephesians 1:7 KJV, Colossians 1:20 KJV, 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 KJV. kzbin.info/www/bejne/opPFZautjs9kb8k Evidence for God's existence: Kalam Cosmological argument, Contigency argument, Modal ontological argument. Regarding Christianity, check out InspiringPhilosophy's videos about the Ressurection of Jesus and the reliability of the New Testament. Together, they show good evidence that Christianity is true.H

@@Navii-05 you seem to be unaware of what Sacred Scripture teaches. You also seem unaware of what the Church teaches. He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath everlasting life: and I will raise him up in the last day. For my flesh is meat indeed: and my blood is drink indeed. He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, abideth in me, and I in him.” And also the Church Does not teach salvation by works. (Council of Trent Session) “Canon i. If any one shall say, that man may be justified before God by his own works, whether done through the strength of human nature, or through the teaching of the law, without the divine grace through Jesus Christ; let him be anathema.” However we must refrain from GRAVE sin in order to stay justified: “Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are fornication, uncleanness, immodesty, luxury, Idolatry, witchcrafts, enmities, contentions, emulations, wraths, quarrels, dissensions, sects, Envies, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like. Of the which I foretell you, as I have foretold to you, that they who do such things shall not obtain the kingdom of God.” (Galatians 5:19-21)

Actually, if you have a good knowledge of Hebrew, (modern and ancient), and have some understanding of the underlying principles of Kabbalah, the source of the name YHWH ( יהוה ) is not so mysterious. Hebrew, like all Semitic languages, is a root based language. Every word is derived from a root word, which is conjugated into different structures by adding one of several letters, usually a Heh - ה , a Nun - נ , a Vav ו, a Yod -י or a Taf - ת , and vowels which are not letters as is Indo-European languages, but signs (dots or lines) below or above a certain letter. for example, a Bet ב with a dot beneath it will be Bee. If it has a line below it, it becomes Ba or Bah. If three dots in a triangle, it becomes Beh. Put a vav in front of it, and it becomes Boh. In Semitic grammar (Arabis as well as Hebrew,) some letters are interchangeable. The most common interchangeable letters are: heh to yod /yod to heh, heh to nun (Solomon In Hebrew is Shlomo, in Arabic Salman), vav to heh/heh to vav. This is important to keep in mind. For example the root for writing is ktv כתב. he wrote becomes katav. he writes becomes kotev. he will write becomes yiktov. A letter is a miktav. Every word works on the same principle, the root becomes a noun or verb depending on conjugation and structure Now lets go back to YHWH (In Hebrew YHVH because the letter Vav (ו) is a V sound in Hebrew (Hebrew has no W sound letter). The root of יהוה is הוה (HVH /HWH). This means exist is a spiritual abstract sense (physical existence is qym-קים ). YHWH - יהוה in Hebrew is pronounced Yehaveh. This is a combination of the word exist in all three tenses at the same time. Existed is Hivah - היווה. Exists hoveh- הווה, will exist yehaveh - יהווה which later evolved into yiheyeh - יהיה Remember how god described himself to Moses in front of the burning bush? "I am what I am (Eheyeh asher eheyeh - אהיה אשר אהיה). In modern Hebrew, this means not I am what I am, but I will be what I will be (please refer to part about interchangeable letters, at different times one was substituted for the other). Bottom line יהוה symbolizes eternal existence , a being/deity that has always existed, and will always exist, that can assume any form it wishes to be perceived as.

The Bible literally says that Israel worships only ONE GOD, YHWH, and then, because of the infidelity of the people, pagan gods (demons) started to be worshiped. I really don't understand why the critics say this is evidence of some falseness of the Bible or something like this. The complete ignorance among the critics of the Bible as CLEAR evidence makes all of them seem idiotic.

A lot of assumptions are made in this video that aren't supported by evidence. It's a good video and informative. The notion that ancient people would prefer polytheistic religion is based around the idea that gods that can trade and aren't jealous are nicer. Therefore monotheism is unlikely to form from polytheism. It's rather shocking to me that IP thinks that, when clearly the jealousy and low bar of entry is what makes abrahamic religions spread so fast. Religion is like a mind Virus and the one winning in the end will have been the one that spread best. Be fruitful, reject other gods, recruit etc... it is what you would expect to win after millennia of competition

In my recollection, the vowels in Yahweh don’t match any grammatical form of the verb for “to be.” If those vowels are right, it’s probably an unrelated word. I seem to recall that some scholars think it’s a borrowing from another language. The association of Yahweh with war and volcanism seems to suggest that Yahweh is just another typical Urban Revolution storm god. (Yahweh replaced El the way Zeus replace Uranus.)

According to Wikipedia, the explanation presented in Exodus 3 (and this video) is a late invented etymology, and the Wikipedia article provides sources as well. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yahweh (this article seems to be very well sourced so you can read more if Wikipedia isn't enough for you) The earliest plausible attestation of the name YHWH seems to be the Egyptian inscription mentioned in the same article. From what I have heard (but my Egyptian is rusty) it is there used as a topological name, so possibly some village or region.

Highly disagree with the interpretations presented here. Particularly because you are presenting Monotheism as a synonym for Henotheism. As you said yourself in the video on Abraham, the Israelites knew their early Semitic pastoral ancestors were henotheists rather than monotheists. And in fact, what you describe as monotheism in this is, in fact, henotheism. The Psalms, the Exillic Books, and the Pentateuch do not ever express the idea that there are no other gods but rather that YHWH is the highest god and the only one worthy of worship. And there are many strange textual anachronisms that show this. The most famous of course being the phrase "bn'lim" or "sons of el" which occurs many, many times in the bible, particularly in the psalms in some rather telling verses. Psalm 82 places Elohim amongst the council of El, just as El, the god of the local Semitic cultures would be. Psalm 29's structure and content are very similar to Ugaritic hymns to their version of Baal. The idea that he does not manifest in nature to the Israelites is also disingenuous because he is often clad specifically in storm deity imagery. This is the biggest example of syncrentism. The acknowledgement of the existence of other gods and henotheism is acknowledged most obviously in God's command is that you will worship no other gods before him. This is not the monotheism of the later books or Jesus. And given the lack of evidence for an exodus, that the Israelites likely always lived in the holy land after travelling from their initial homelands and the accounts of polytheistic rituals in the Bible, they likely were originally polytheist (El worshipping) with a huge unique henotheistic current that syncretized and separated and changed. Assorted complaints: There is this bizarre idea that the gods weren't the foundation of morality. Anyone who's read the codes of Ur-Nammu or Hammurabi knows that they were indeed (supposedly) a divine intervention through the character of the priestly king. The gods care enormously. Furthermore using the poem of the Righteous Sufferer to show near easterners didn't know what their gods wanted morally would be as disingenuous as me showing Job and saying that god is unjust. The reason near-easterners struggled with not knowing what their gods wants when they were suffering is the same reason the Jews did: Because the nature of the universe is fundamentally indifferent and simple moral cause and effect like we find in the bible and elsewhere fundamentally dissatisfy people.

Fantastically informative video. More importantly, correcting a lot of other videos from atheist channels about similar topics. I watched another channel that had a long video claiming the exact opposite as you did. That polytheism morphed into monotheism. There was just one thing I wish you addressed. Could you do this in another video? This other atheistic channel claimed proof of polytheism progressing into monotheism from the word Elohim, which is plural. This other channel stated that Elohim appears even in the Psalms, and also claims God being plural in the very beginning of Genesis at the beginning of creation. Eg, let "us" make in our own image. This other channel therefore claimed that polytheism is embedded in the OT. Could you do another video addressing this topic of the name of God being plural? And debunking polytheism from it as a result.

Do a video on the parallels with ancient cultures some day. You mentioned if I recall after having watched the video that the Israelites did not ask what they had done to offend God when they suffered, but a whole Hebrew book is devoted to that question, the book of Job. See also the earlier Mesopotamian Poem of the Righteous Sufferer, and a few other writings older than what Israel produced. Also, as for Israelites not bargaining with their God, they did. They also imagined that making plenty of sacrifices and worshiping Yahweh brought blessings, while not doing so brought curses. Of course a lot of what happened to them individually and nationally was simply interpreted retroactively as Yahweh’s blessing whenever they succeeded at something, and a curse when they failed at something. Or they would discover some scapegoat to blame for having “offended Yahweh” whenever things went wrong. Were the ancient Israelites so much more ethical than surrounding people? See Thom Stark’s summation of the data in his book and response to Paul Copan.

Thank you & may God bless you for your exhaustive work on this channel! This work is instrumental in deprogramming me of 2 decades of lies. I fell away from Christianity in my late teens & by my early 20s I was an ardent follower of the so-called “New Atheists”. About 3 years ago, I started to move towards more New Age beliefs, which was a big step for me to admit that maybe there was some sort of “god”. But I still held onto the belief that I knew one thing for certain: the God described in the Bible was NOT a True God, but rather a cruel human distortion. And yet I gradually kept being drawn to flavors of New Age thought that reinterpreted the Bible & recontextualized Jesus & Christianity. About 3 months ago I started to think “oh no! Am I a Christian now? I think I’m a Christian now!” This is the point where the narrator would say “she was not a Christian. Yet.” About a month ago I returned to the Catholic Church & now I’m very seriously considering converting to eastern Christian Orthodoxy. And the more I commit to this path, the more old devils pop into my mind, especially during prayer, attempting to rekindle my old doubts. Your channel helps shut the bastards up!! So your work is helping to keep me on the path to salvation & I thank God for guiding me to your channel on the nights I stubbornly stay awake far to late scrolling KZbin shorts!! May God grant you many blessings!💖🕊️

YHWH shouldn't really be pronounced Yahweh, no one knows the right way of pronouncing it even Jewish people themselves. It's better to call him Father as it is written in ISA 63:16 Doubtless thou art our Father, though Abraham be ignorant of us, and Israel acknowledge us not: thou, O LORD, art our Father, our redeemer; thy name is from everlasting. Even Jesus repeatedly calls Him Father. That's just his name from eternity.

I think IP sometimes can overstate his position with his maximalist approach. Some positions just don't have that much evidence to stand on and IP stretches his case past the evidence's natural boundaries. HOWEVER...this same maximalist approach is an absolute lethal blow whenever IP is standing on a position with a plethora of evidence such as in this video. This is an absolute slam dunk and I don't think it's possible to maintain a cohesive position that can comprehensively address all the evidence IP brings to the table here.
