Two of the KIA were women officers. The defenders also included a Bedouin Sargent Major, all true selfless heroes 🫡. The Sargent Major (named Ashraf), who survived the attack and its repulsion, sent the green recruits to the clubhouse and told them not to unlock or open the door until they heard him shout "Ashraf" three times.

120km/hr is UNBELIEVABLY fast for an armored vehicle. That's a full 20% faster than an M1117 or a Stryker, and nobody drives those at full speed, because they will try to knock your tailbone through your throat with the handling. And the Eitan has far more armor than a Stryker, so the increased speed means that it has a much more powerful engine. Given how it has performed so far, I don't think that we can call these untested anymore. This is probably going to be a pretty common vehicle in the future, and may even be a good export product to nations like the Gulf States (maybe, if the Abraham Accords keep moving forward) and smaller European countries. As with most IDF systems, they put a heavy focus on protecting the crew, because they are a small nation with the largest danger being attrition of their most skilled troops. Vehicles can be repaired or replaced, but soldiers are a finite resource when your total population is just under 9.4 million.

These are diesel engines. Forced induction direct injected engines. They have no horsepower figures, it's software limited. A better measurement is the size of the turbo. American trucks ... by truck I mean semi ... have low horsepower figures but very reliable power ... million miles reliable. The Jews just took a truck engine and slapped a bigger turbine knowing they don't need a milion mile engine, they need power right now. The american diesel engine can definitely make power if it's needed. I play ATS, I'm a fan of american trucks, you can look at those tractor pull races to see how much they can squeeze out of a diesel. Thanks Capy for a great video. The edge that the Israeli designers have over their counterparts in military industry in other countries is that they have direct access to soldiers and units with actual battle experience, when collecting the requirements for new systems. In fact, some of those engineers were these soldiers a few years earlier or they still are in active reserve duty for a few weeks every year. Also during testing you get quick feedback so you can fine tune and tweak the final product. Iron Dome itself was tested in live action in 2009 and received a few upgrades while the confrontation was still going on.

I think that IDF dismounts the infantry further away from Merkava, so they minimize the chance of being in range of those rockets. I saw a video of Israeli soldiers rescuing a team from inside a hit apc. They typed in some code in the back of the vehicle to open the door and save the crew that locked themselves inside the apc. That was very interesting to me. Is this like a safety measure the apc crew can use so they won't get taken as prisoners and can wait for rescue? I've never seen any other army have this thing in their heavy armored vehicles.

@@devon5154 Most military vehicles, believe it or not, have no such thing. Locking the door is kinda pointless when you have to station GIs to guard the equipment anyways. And during combat it can be even detrimental at times as it may prevent crew from escaping. So yeah, the idea may be indeed to avoid taken hostage. A conventional army may only call artillery or any other ordinance but in assymetric warfare where the other side is eager to take hostages this function may not be bad.

I know the video you're talking of, it's a special police unit coming to their rescue...I don't recall them entering a code to open the door, though. As I recall, they used the intercom on the back of the APC to talk with the wounded soldiers inside and inform them that they were the police coming to get them out.

Not sure if Iron Fist is better than Trophy. Each has their own pros and cons. The pro for Iron Fist is it's a lot lighter than trophy and was designed for light infantry vehicles (jeeps, hummers etc...) - meaning that if you can support the weight (e.g. Merkava) the Trophy is probably the better system.

The (kind of irrelevant to Israel) benefit of the Iron Fist is that it can also intercept APFSDS rounds, changing the angle of impacting and making it shatter on impact. You could see it at a showcase video.

@BenyKarachun yo, that explosive countermeasure was traveling nowhere near 2 kilometers a second - i doubt it is able to deploy in time unless the target fires from several kilometers away. This means it only stops some apfsds that travel slow/fired from far away + detected, but stops all man-portable rpg's. I'd sell it as an rpg stopper so no customers ask for money back 😉.

@fulcrox yeah but isreali repair hubs (who would be burdened with repairing busted tank's/ifv's/apc's) are not in the news. If the media shined a spotlight on the money and scarefactor of washing the blood out of tanks and welding them back together. Welders are paid bank and seeing blood increases viewer retention, the fact they aint in the news means they aint fixing/washing much. Sounds like the only problem isreal faces is buying the right auto-turrets for their wall. Samsung makes the best, kept North Korea in their own borders for generations now.

One of the coolest parts of technology in combat, is that technology will always be ahead of what is practically possible. Every single platform, weapon and strategy is already potentially obsolete because by the time the tool is being used, a minority of people (hopefully helping you out) have already observed, tested and identified the weaknesses of the new thing. They have the time between designing the thing, and sending it to combat, to design a better version and therefore "obsolete" the old version. (never-mind practical experience) Some parts of the military have this issue worse than others, not really sure which are relevant. But here are some examples. Navies often have this issue because it can take decades to make a single ship, so as long as you want to stick with the original plan (ad-lib at your own risk). It takes so long to move a ship from the blueprints to the sea that entire wars can begin and conclude before the ship is ever tested. By the time the ship touches water there have been 10 years of engineering, experience and changes in priority. On the opposite end of the spectrum guns are so numerous that massive amounts of industry would have to retool and find funding before new ones became common. Practically you can make a new individual weapon very quickly, but replacing a 50 year old gun completely may take 50 years. By the time a gun becomes common in a military there have already been new guns made and the people may see the old gun as an old reliable despite flaws that have been on record for entire generations. Rushing your new vehicle to combat and skipping the evaluation minimizes the time people can reconsider/observe and practically increases the time the vehicle has before becoming obsolete. There are risks though, it isn't all gravy.

Thanks for a great video , the Iron Fist have also not seen real battles yet... the version used is called Iron Fist Light Decoupled, this version was made to address needs of the US army after testing few years ago with the original version were only partially successful and it was too heavy... I don't know the ETA of the testing but this system looks more suitable for APCs ... it was chosen also for the Australian Redback, Trophy is still the dominant for MBTs

Yeah, the only reason to pick the Iron Fist over Trophy is weight/energy issues. Trophy is far better, but it's too heavy for most vehicles and takes up an ungodly amount of energy. Trophy is more effective, but it can be fit on smaller vehicles, and even helicopters.

120KPH is 74MPH, they can travel that fast. I could be wrong, since I wasn't there. Wikipedia say it will do 90KPH/56MPH still that DAMN fast. The weight is also reported to be 30 to 35 TONS, not the 8 tons Caps stating. - After contacting Cap, sorted me out here. He said "Eitans" and it sure sounds like 8tons to me. As for the speed, Cap said "Eitan can definitely go above the official open source numbers speed, that's the numbers for recommended routine driving. The Stryker for example is listed with a top speed of 60 mph but I know for a fact we drove it at 80 mph (not advisable it really starts to wobble at that point and its dangerous)" Moving 30 to 35 tons at 74/75MPH is quite a feat.

Wikipedia isn't a great source for cutting edge military tech. It's pretty good for older tech, as those are known quantities with a lot of observed use. Newer tech often has purposely inaccurate info shared by the manufacturer--in the west, this typically is to under-sell the system so that enemies underestimate its true capabilities, while Russia and China are notorious for over-selling their systems to make them appear more impressive. This is why the Patriot systems taking down the Russian Kinzals in Ukraine was such a surprise to some. On paper, that could never happen, as the Patriot capabilities are above what was reported, while the Kinzal "hypersonics" were slower and less maneuverable than reported.

The Stryker is designed to be transported in a C-130, so there’s a reason it has half the mass of the Eitan. I don’t think the Stryker was meant for urban warfare, either.

So... the Chinese VN-20 done right; a multi-purpose troop transport vehicle that actually functions with reasonable protection and improves and restructures existing designs with specific purposes in mind. Only in Israel will you get a commander calling something American a piece of junk and asking for something better. Good to know that they've developed newer systems to Trophy, and they've innovated it to additional threats. God I love this country and part of my heritage.

Today on TV they intervied an IAI exec after Arrow again shot down Yemeni ballistic missile. He said, we should thank Houthis, they are saving us money on dummy missiles for testing. Germany recently purchased Arrow to counter Russian ballistic missile threat. Germans will also be happy it was finally battle tested in a real war.

Look at Israeli doctrine. Israeli soldiers are mounted, and when dismounted they aren't anywhere near the APCs. It makes the APCs more vulnurable to attacks, however, those APCs are designed to handle them using APS, ERA and passive armor. This made Israeli casualty rate in Gaza exceptionally low (

I guess that when you have a nation of 9 million people that is surrounded by several hundred million potential adversaries, you don’t want to get into a war of attrition with them.

There is also a cultural component. Contrary to popular belief, Judaism doesn't really have set belief in heaven or hell but rather life and legacy is the thing. Ecclesiastes is one of the corner stone philosophical texts for Judaism. For reference to your specific point, I'd recommend reviewing Ecclesiastes 9 to be precise.

Even tho you are correct in what you say, I find that aspect of many modern Jews’ religious practice to be sad. The view of no afterlife is not new. It has a long tradition dating back to at least the 2nd Temple era. There were numerous Jewish Groups that claimed to practice “true” Judaism back then. The 3 most prominent were Pharisees (Chasidim), Sadducees & Essenes. Most modern Rabbinical Judaism has a direct historic & theological link to The Pharisees. They revered the traditions of the Elders just like they revered the Tanach (Hebrew Bible for those who don’t know). Out of those traditions rose the Talmud. They actually did believe in a Resurrection, Judgement & afterlife. It was a point of contention with the Sadducees. The Sadducees were a religious/ political group that had a love/hate relationship with the Pharisees. They only acknowledged the 5 Books of Torah as being Divinely inspired. They did not believe in angels, unclean spirits or an afterlife. All your rewards & punishments accrued in this life. Some suggest that modern Kararite Jews are their spiritual descendants. I think that that view is wrong. Kararites revere the entire Tanach. Their only commonality with the Sadducees is that neither consider the Traditions (Talmud) to be Divinely authoritative. Although in truth, many Kararites go along with many extra-Biblical traditions from a cultural standpoint. I don’t know of any modern stream of Judaism that is quiet like the Sadducees. And I suspect that there have always been Kararite leaning Jews. (They are kinda like Protestants in Christianity). The Essenes are a third group that were quite large & well respected by the people. Their origins & demise have been shrouded in mystery to some degree. Many think that they were a small sect of Monastic Jews. Qumran being their HQ. In truth the community at Qumran was a monastic style community with very precise rituals. But only properly descended priests went there. And they stayed for short periods of time. (I think the very idea of a large celibate priesthood would go against every inclination of real Jews). (And Baptists, too). The Essene Movement was much larger than most of us realize. They believed in the entire Tanach just like the Pharisees. They also believed in the Testimony of the Patriarchs as being Divinely inspired. They rejected the Traditions of the Elders/The Oral Torah as being Authoritative. They didn’t particularly get along with either the Pharisees or the Sadducees. What happened to them? They became the early Church. They laid the groundwork for Christianity among Jews with an understanding that the eventual outreach would expand to Gentiles. They were the proto-Messianic Jews. Both John the Baptist & Jesus quoted Essene writing. Paul incorporated their insights & doctrines in what could be called Pauline Doctrine. One of the Elders who “laid hands” on Paul in Antioch was a noted Essene who had been a leader of the Sanhedrin before fleeing Jerusalem. Dr Ken Johnson is working diligently to translate the Dead Sea Scrolls into English for us all to study. He has several fascinating books already published. And more in the works. I have read about a dozen of his books. They aren’t all about the DSS. He has a good KZbin channel, too.

What got to me was how they were able to use boats to the beach. I would have assumed there would be at least a couple of patrol boats watching the shoreline for infiltration. Seems Israel failed on all fronts to protect against infiltration. I’m still not sure how this happens when you have a hostile group right next to you.

You're right, it was failure, but mainly a political one. Netanyahu downplayed Hamas for years and thought he had them contained by giving them amenities, money and a free reign. To his credit, Hamas played him (and Israel) quite well, not participating in previous battles, feigning incompetence in videoed military drills, and appearing to prefer the pleasantries of rulership over anything else. As a result, Netanyahu, and the Israeli intelligence, got complacent and moved whole brigades out of the Gaza border, thinking they're being wasted on a relatively peaceful front since Israel thought the main adversary would be Hizbollah and prepared for an invasion from the north, leaving the south relatively open for a full-scale attack.
