In this first episode of IsraelPalestine for Critical Thinkers, Richard Bass takes us back thousands of years to when the region was called Canaan, and explains why it's important to go back in time to understand the issues taking place there today. We also discuss how archaeologists and historians have used the Bible as a guide for their discoveries in the region, while working to distinguish facts from legends.

@snakey934Snakeybakey

@@ScottNormanRosenthal it was full of disingenuous omitions, most notibly a map presented in the video where they show the British mandate for Palestine but intentionally exclude Transjordan, which leaves out a very vital chapter in understanding the conflict* he also insist over and over in the video that the conflict is about land and has nothing to do with religion (yes, its land that causes a mother to celebrate when her child has killed himself to kill other children, and not religious clerics describing the conflict as a holy war, even in the "socialist and moderate" factions of the PA) Green also claims that the religious populations in Jerusalem were "roughly equal" yet, even under Ottoman census, Jews were always the Majority, especially in the old city. by the Ottomans own records, (and bare in mind, under the Ottomans many Jewish families were registered as Muslims for lower taxes) the Muslim population of Jerusalem never exceeded 25%, and the Jews would maintain a solid majority in the old city until Jordan annexed it in 1949. John Green also states that "Ottoman Palestine was a place where people of different faiths lived peacefully together" as if the conflict started with the Zionist movement. when in reality, it was a man called Haj Min Al Husseini, who would later go on to found the Quasi-Palestinian Arab identity, and advise the Nazis on the final solution, who; between 1920 and 1937, lead over a dozen Pogroms and Massacres against Israelis, including the infamous Hebron Pogrom, and expulsion of the ethnic Jews which immediately followed, which was done with the aid of the British. the Israeli militant organization, Etzel or "Irgun" would emerge as a result of this in 1936 or 37. He presents many flawed censuses from the time, for example, the British census on the population of Arabs and Jews during the years before WW2, when many Jews including my own grandparents were registered as Arabs to avoid being deported by the British; who in their efforts to stifle the prospect of an Israeli rebellion against them in Palestine; brought in hundreds of thousands of new Arab migrants, while placing severe limitations on Jewish immigration, even among those who had valid visas, or family in Palestine. when he talks about the revolts against British rule, he paints the Arabs as the revolutionaries, while not only omitting Israeli resistance against the British, but paints it as if the Israelis and British were in cahoots against the Arabs. he also talks about the Arab refugees, but omits the 1 million Ethnic Jews who were expelled from Arab lands. he seems to have taken only snippets of the story to present one sides point of view, and not the other. * omitting Transjordan from the story is good if you want to insist that the conflict is territorial, and that the Israelis can fix it by just giving the Arabs more land. but it is dishonest. the Israelis gave the Arabs 80% of the land that was meant to be theirs to create the state of Jordan, but this was just met with more demands for land, and more violence, from a nation which has 714X as much land as Israel. and even after Israel won the wars in 1948 and 1967, they are still forced to negotiate as if they are the losers, with the Arabs who not only lost these wars, but who lost them after starting them with the intent to commit genocide (something else omitted by Green who describes 1948 as "war broke out") leaving out the Arab coalition, and their genocidal rhetoric, Haj Amin al Husseini described it as "finishing off the remaining Jews that Hitler left" and the Arab secretary General, Pasha Azzam said and I quote "this will be a war of extermination, a momentous massacre that will be spoken of like the Mongolian massacres and the crusades"

For the price of one shekel this problem can be resolved. I propose that Israel purchase the land as a post war reparation for the price of one shekel. This will remove all external belligerents and peacemakers from the equation; and put the beast to bed. More than enough capital has been expended dealing with this question.

How do you know that some Bible stories are legends instead of historical?
@Forcriticalthinkersseries
@Forcriticalthinkersseries 3 жыл бұрын
Good question Richel. The statement was made on the basis that from a critical thinking perspective we don't have any evidence other than the Bible itself to support claims going back that far in history. For example, we don't have tangible extra-biblical evidence (like an artifact) to support the Bible's narrative that far back. You are correct though, in what is implied in your question, that a lack of evidence doesn't mean that these biblical figures didn't exist. It just means that we can't really 'know' in the same sense that we can know things about say the Roman era in the history of the region.

And Canaan saw the land of Lebanon to the river of Egypt, that it was very good, and he went not into the land of his inheritance to the west (that is to) the sea, and he dwelt in the land of Lebanon, eastward and westward from the border of Jordan and from the border of the sea. And Ham, his father, and Cush and Mizraim his brothers said unto him: 'Thou hast settled in a land which is not thine, and which did not fall to us by lot: do not do so; for if thou dost do so, thou and thy sons will fall in the land and (be) accursed through sedition; for by sedition ye have settled, and by sedition will thy children fall, and thou shalt be rooted out for ever. Dwell not in the dwelling of Shem; for to Shem and to his sons did it come by their lot. Cursed art thou, and cursed shalt thou be beyond all the sons of Noah, by the curse by which we bound ourselves by an oath in the presence of the holy judge, and in the presence of Noah our father.' But he did not hearken unto them, and dwelt in the land of Lebanon from Hamath to the entering of Egypt, he and his sons until this day. And for this reason that land is named Canaan. -Jubilees 10:29- thirty4

You must go back before Canaan to understand the real history. The area of Canaan was known as the land of Shem. His descendants are called Semites. Abraham was one descendant of Shem. The Canaanites stole that land from Shem and therefore the conquest was not really a conquest of a land, but a retaking of the original land of Shem by his descendants.

Richard Bass/ A historian can only say what is most probable about the past. AND THUS, must take in to consideration all concerning fields of study. With regards to religious texts, religion isn't the current cause of human actions or nations. That would be the furthering of Human Needs as Rights. And so your bringing it up, to couch the Israel/ Palestine conflict, has literally no modern relevance beyond the esthetic inclinations of reactionary nation-states.

You obviously do not know history. Before the Canaanites conquered (stole) the land, it belonged to Shem, father of the Semites. I believe you are speaking about the descendants of Cham, i.e. Mitzrayim (Egypt) and Canaan, which you call "Arabs".

You left out Philistine from which the Romans got Palestine. The conflict here isn’t a new one if you read your Bible. Most remember the story of “David and Goliath” don’t they? Or how about “Samson and Delilah” which came even earlier. Palestine is the name given by Rome to make Israel “feel” conquered.

On the issue of slavery your facts were wrong! The first person abolished slavery was Cyrus the great who freed slaves from slavey 300 years before the Chin dynasty and we call China, Chaina because Persians called it Chin and Marco Polo learned that from Persians. If you don`t know you best not produce videos!

the term Palestine is roman... the term Israel or Israelite is 5,000 years old and mentioned in the bible, Palestine or Palestinians where never mentioned in the quran and even more recent work than the bible! Israel is 5,000 years old Palestine is from the ottomans and comes from Rome to call it "Israel-Palestine" is a complete lack of knowledge of history

The Romans named the kingdom of Israel "Palestina" when they conquered it, which translates to "the land of immigrants" since they kicked most Israelites who decided to stay jewish and wanted to demoralize any future jewish rebels in the area. Arab populations who lived in the area throughout more recent decades named themselves "Palestinians" because that was the name Britain stuck with when they ruled Israel. Palestinians are arabs, some have roots in Israel going back thousands of years but most of them have roots in neighboring countries such as Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt etc.

I don't know you or what you've been through, but you matter. God loves you and so do I. Believe that Jesus Christ is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead. Repent of your sins; repent simply means to turn away from your sins, don't keep doing the wrong things you did in the past. Be baptized; a symbol that the old sinful self is gone and a new creation is here in Christ Jesus. Follow the specific will of God for your life and you will be saved.
