I'm from Turkey and Malini always asked people if they belonged to the West or the East. Choosing one side always means losing the other side, so Turkey has a chance not to choose one side. We are both East and West, we have lived through such a century and we will continue to live like this.

I am in love with Istanbul! My love for Turkish culture began when I was 12 years old when my sister's Albanian friend introduced me to one of Tarkan's songs. I finally got a chance to travel to Istanbul when I was in university for an exchange semester in 2015. I've been coming back ever since. I finally moved to Turkey a few months ago to Tekirdag. Hoping in the next 2-3 years I'll be able to move to Istanbul, Beykoz ideally.

Smart content as usual Malini. It's a beautiful country rich in history no one can deny that. And as much as it is rich economically, full of touristic sights and facilities, only tourists can enjoy it's bright side. It's citizens are never satisfied about it. When I was I working there my Turkish colleagues were telling me that in Turkey the rich gets richer and the poor gets poorer and that Turkey is not the one you see in the news and media. They're so dissatisfied with the Turkish government, they only live to eat and dress up in the morning just to go to work, work as hard as they can , then go home. They can't afford going to the places we enjoy visiting as tourist. And it shows in the crazy number of scammers, trafficking and bribery you tend to encounter there. It's crazy. They're everywhere and the're so hungry for money. They want money to live up to standards they can't reach. And it's sad because Turkey is not only a country open to both Europe and the east, it's a productive country, they produce everything and it's a great trading spot , they're taking advantage of that and they're taking good care of it to attract more and more tourists and traders. But still, it's people can't afford living a respectful life in in it. It looks open and modern on the outside, but deep inside it's citizens are so enclosed and stuck to their culture and language and as you walk in the street, it's very hard for you to find a person who understands English or any other language, even at work officials know just Turkish , and they're proud of that and they don't even try. In libraries all the books are in Turkish, even international books are translated and sold in Turkish. Turkish people are hard workers, they're so stylish and they're great chefs, but their minds aren't as open as they intend show them on the media. They want their country only for themselves and they don't like outsiders (immigrants). You better fully integrate yourself and become "Turkish like" or you go out. The fault is in the educational system and the laws issued by the government not in its people. Their country made them feel and act like that. Well, Visit Turkey, it's charming and there is always more to see there, but don't stay there. Turkish people want to be left alone.

@@maliniangelica1 there are some misinformations depending on just subjective personal experiences!above, let me explaine a little! Turkey is a very polarized country politically at the moment! It's fully depend on who you encounter with to understand or to get an idea about the country! Turkish people in general never against immigrants, its true for historically this is a country of immigrants! Even etnic Turks came from mid-asia,but if you are against today's government policies you become against immigration policies. Because of Syrian war, millions of syrian refugees fleed Turkey and for those people against government Syrian policies, you can easily be against immigrants! the fact that Turkey always become a transpassing or immigration country throughout history! Even my grand grand parents came from Caucasian region from a war with russians more than hundred years ago! Now russians and Ukrainans fleed from the war! Jews here,Georgian and Caucasian people here as well. where they came from?! All living here peacfully and turkish people wellcomed them! And about economic issiues, its also not true to say that turkish people can affort life, all tourist and people visiting here filling restaurants, cafes etc. Ok there is prblems in economy but hole word is in a crisis more or less at the moment.Turkey is living 10,000 dollar per capita barrier now but it has a great potential to recover in couple of years!. I am not a big fun of this government but they did alot in democracy. In west there is big manipulations about erdoğan is an islamist dictator so on,its not true also! He won more that 15 free elections very well observed by AGIT, and in last election,he lost major cities managements! If he would have been a dictator or autoritarian leader, how come this happened! when you try independent policies for the benefit of your coutry, you became scapegoat by the west, specially by US. So if someone wants to get more informed about a certain coutry, its not enough to live there couple of years, you need to go deeper in issiues, first of all you need to learn that certain country's language!..Even its also not enough as you see, such an polarized coutry like Turkey, you can come up with differnt conclusion depending on your view, thats we call 'democracy'
