@Fleshfor Frankenstein I have the same problem - most of the time I get INTJ but sometimes I get ISTJ. The percentages for the N/S on the test are usually around 60/40%, but sometimes they are closer. I wonder whether some of it can be explained by nature vs. nurture. I was raised by an ISFJ mom and an ISTJ dad. Just a thought. :-)

Interesting that people also think that way, I have experienced the same thing, but have later observed that it depends on my environment and/or mood, when I am in an environment where I have to get something done which typically tends to be task-oriented I seem to be an ISTJ, also when I am angry or feel tired I seem to be ISTJ, but when I have intellectual discussions (mostly with friends) or am by myself (left to my own thoughts) I seem to be INTJ.

I always got INTJ as a result in the past. The past year I have been practicing alot of meditation to get out of my head and worrying about the future and also to live in the present more. I did mbti today again and got ISTJ. I still feel like INTJ describes me well but I consciously try to live my everyday life like an ISTJ it seems.

For example I like to improve instead of maintain, but I'm not creative and look for things that have worked in the past. But it doesn't have to be things that I have experienced first hand.

Some other differences I've noticed - ISTJs tend to be very aware of their bodies and it's very important to them to be healthy and stay in shape. They will be more likely to have hobbies that involve physical recreation, while INTJs are more detached from their bodies and are much more interested in theories and ideas. For example, an INTJ would be more likely to make a video about MBTI, while an ISTJ would rather be outside running or doing something physical. In fact, I'd say that's true for all INXX vs ISXX types. Also, ISTJs usually like to fit into society and excel within their niche. They would rather blend in than stand out. INTJs, on the other hand, are not as concerned with fitting in. They are more likely to be seen as outcasts or rebels in some way and blaze their own trail.

Pick a different test with better assessment methodology or at least test on multiple sites (ideally official one) - the MBTI framework is great but there are so many shitty assessments / questionnaires that would give you incorrect results

Those types seems to mix like oil and water. One is old fashion and routine based, culture and norm focused, while the other is forward thinking and theoretical improvement seeking and a visionary who often is unorthodox and eccentric. I'm an INTJ and dad's an ISTJ/P and we don't agree and never will.

The elementary answer to this question is view the cognitive functions all eight of them and understand what they mean and pick the ones that fit to you individual do not depend on a test and if you absolutely don't trust your own judgment there are professionals for a certain fee will test you it will be more reliable than just some questionnaire off the internet.

I’m an ISTJ and my boss is an INTJ. I think we work very well together. When I get too deep into the details, I got reminded on whether the end result is the desired one or not. While when he suggested to try new things, I could lay out the logistics needed to see if it disrupts too much or not. Been pretty satisfied working with him

Im an ISTJ. I have nothing against doing things differently. But you need to prove to me pre-implementation why the chances of success outweigh the chances of failure. And how the risks and benefits measure up. And the above isn't standalone. Also, a similar assessment needs to be done on the status quo procedure. And from there the status quo vs the new procedure compared and one picked out of logic. So I may jump on board a new idea that is risky and has chances of failure if it's proven to me that the status quo is even riskier and even more likely to result in failure relatively to the new idea. What I do not want to hear is visionary fluffy nonsense that simply feels nice but hasn't been measured for potential effectiveness. Something INTJs dont do. Its the touchy feely personalities that do that 🙄

Same. If people proposing visionary fluffy shit were willing to take responsibility in case of failure and design contingencies into their plan, I’d be more receptive. What’s annoying is when people do things that have bad consequences for themselves and others but just let it happen and leaving a mess that others didn’t sign up for.
@aeiou2819
@aeiou2819 3 жыл бұрын
a lot of our social movements and progressions started with a purpose that many described as ‘fluffy visionary nonsense.’ sometimes, there’s no way to measure definite chances of success or failure from outcome- but all reconstruction takes risk. you can’t exactly define the success of something abstract with tangible effectiveness. in comes the touchy feely personalities with dominant feeling functions. a lot of our SJWs are, you know.

Depending on the wording of the questions, I have seen it show both for me. ISTJ mostly. I think he misstated a few things with ISTJ. Not caring about the future? Not trying to improve it? We look at the past to see what failed ,as well as what worked. And how it works, so the same mistakes are not made going forward.

I'm an INTJ, but my military time in having to manage logistics and equipment before my medical team went out on a training exercise, etc., taught me to adopt many ISTJ ways of doing things. If left to my own devices, given as much scope of authority possible, I naturally gravitate toward INTJ. When I'm in a situation where my scope of authority is much lower and more stringent constraints are placed on me as far as time and resources, I can easily slip into ISTJ. I tend to test back and forth with INTJ still remaining dominant. I guess when I answer the questions it's difficult for me to differentiate between "what I prefer to do and naturally want to do" vs "what I would realistically choose to do because I have to."

I appreciate the effort in making this video, however I don't think you've done the ISTJ justice. Si is an introverted, therefore subjective function as opposed to a 'task slave' function like a lot of people seem to interpret. Si is concerned with what is the most comfortable, least exhausting, most certain way of getting things done for the indivual. Si doms know what works for them(if they are infact repeating an action that they've taken before) as opposed to just accepting everything people tell them is working...Let's please not forget that Si works with Fi in ISTJs (just like Ni works with Fi in INTJs) to create individuals with unique,ever evolving perspectives(as nothing is static anyway). Also ISTJs have Ne in their cognitive stack. Low or high, that proposes an amount of explorative ideas. We might not aways engage in those ideas like Ne doms but we're frequently considering them. We're ready to act on a different idea should the existing framework fail to get us to our desired results. So once again, sensory types aren't necessarily less introspective or less mentally resourceful...also, being focused on improvement has less to do with the cognitive stack(if anything) and more with the how the indivual chooses to live their life. It possibly has to do with how self assured,intelligent, educated, idealistic,ambitious they are. As we all know by now(hopefully) Fi doms are not the only people in the world who are allowed to have ideals :) Goals are necessary to be healthy and an Si doms number one priority is to always be healthy. So maybe those are some points to reflect on for non-Si doms...

I am happy to find another INTJ who can explain the ISTJ from an INTJ perspective. I am writing a novel where one of the characters is an ISTJ and I am flushing out some of her quirks. I wrote a lot about her (along with many of the other characters surrounding her) before I got down to properly developing her personality to the correct level. She has demonstrated a lot of ISTJ characteristics already, so I have decided to go with that. But I am looking for depth, and this video has been helpful on my path to getting there. (Her husband is an ENTJ--my leading protagonist--and she has a sister who is an INTJ. Her parents are INTJ and ESTP, and I have gone to great depth on all of them already, but now it is the ISTJ's turn. After that I still have an ESFP, and an ESFJ to close out all the important characters.) Anyway, thank you for your help in my effort to attain my ISTJ quest. It is so much easier working with characters I fully understand. When I am writing they tend to come to life, and do what they damn well please, but the more I know the better that all works out for me. :-)

I am INTJ ...this is spot on ...most people like to connect "letter combinations " in order to pair up the acronyms for better understanding . However we are less like ISTJ and more like a "backwards " ISTP if anything . Yes when it comes to demeanor and "getting things done " we are the same but that's where the similarities stop . Our process is more like an adverse ISTP ...why ? ISTPs explore externally in order to have "higher" understanding of self . ISTP's call it "being in the zone " they ultimately chase "perfection " INTERNALLY by mastering their craft ....think Michael Jordan and Phil Jackson ...MJ being an ISTP continues to strive eventhough he was the best basketball player and has nothing to prove . Phil Jackson his coach did the same but INTERNALLY ...we as INTJ seek to prove that our "visions" or our "great grand plan" or theory is universal . Both us and the ISTP will also "break rules " if we feel it gets in the way of our principles or our goal. Phil Jackson was determined to prove that the "triangle offense " wins basketball games even if there was no precedent or consistency in the data . So In summation yes ISTJ are like INTJ at first glance but our process is more like ISTP in reverse .

I was an INTJ manager. I remember telling an employee " look at where you want to go or what you want to do and find your best way to get there". I would give them the company approved s.o.p. if they were most comfortable that way but I would also let them do things their way if they could one: produce the desired results and two: their way wasn't expressly forbidden by upper management. Of course if their way didn't work out then they got less slack in the leash.

Thank you so much for this video! I liked how it was to the point, well put together and how you explained everything and added some examples. I am now fairly sure I'm an ISTJ and not an INTJ. Finally! This is like the 20th video/text guide I had to see/read to be sure. My results tend to differ, sometimes I get an ISTJ, sometimes INTJ, and the ratio is around the middle (60 : 40, usually). I think what helped me the most was you saying that 1.) INTJs tend to be future oriented, whereas ISTJs past and present oriented, that 2.) INTJs look at a problem and think of tons of ways of how to solve it (creative problem-solvers), whereas ISTJs just do what has worked previously for them (practical problem-solvers), and that 3.) INTJs like to improve, whereas ISTJs like to mantain. I think I'd like to be an INTJ, I wish I was able to think the way they do, to see all of the possibilities AND to know how to achieve them, but the reality is, unfortunately for me, that I'm actually an ISTJ (although I very much disagree with doing things by the book - I like to find what works the best for me and do it that way, not necessarily the way it should be done).

I definitely think on the future daily. The far future. But not with fear. I find these very interesting. I would also say I am very in tune to emotions, but if I have a vested interest in some matter then it can conflict with what I’m sensing there. And I respect emotions, I just believe that facts, truth should be the determining factor as much as hormones will allow. You brought up many points I hadn’t come across before, and I rather enjoyed it. I’ll have to see if you have more. When I read the description, I felt like something was wrong or I just wanted to take the test once more to make sure. So I took the test a day later, and got INTJ. I read the description and, oh man, it was extremely accurate. I almost started crying. But when I began exploring MBTI, I started doubting myself really badly. Especially when I discovered that INTJ is one of the rarest and intelligent types. Then I came to know about the cognitive functions. After that, I doubted myself even harder: “Am I just being one of those people who just want to feel special by claiming they’re INTJ, INFJ or whatever? Who am I? I hate myself.” Additionally, I’m a girl, so the chance of me being an INTJ is extremely low. Likewise, when I came to know that intuitives were only 30% of the population, I was almost sure I was a self-proclaimed INTJ. I couldn’t stop on that point since I haven’t explored all the typology nuances. I started narrowing down the possibilities of my MBTI by learning how they work. I was in despair. I didn’t know anymore who I am: my vision of myself became extremely blurry. This is happening to me since I turned 12: every time I’m sure of something I find the ways to doubt it without even knowing how. Am I an INTJ with low self esteem, imposters syndrome or something? Or is it correct to doubt myself because it may be true? I always thought I knew myself well. But I have no idea anymore. Every time I see myself one way, I will find another possibility of my true self. It’s like “The more you know, the better you understand that you don’t know anything.”

Read your lengthy diatribe with interest. I am a male in my mid seventies and on looking back to about 12 years of age I became aware of looking at things differently, which continued for most of my adult life. Many years ago a friend put myself and a few others through a Personality Profile to discover talents, preferences etc. Skip forward a few years and after having a conversation with same person, he made me aware that he had used MBTI as a profile tool and in the intervening years had come to the conclusion that i was an ISTJ. Upon researching this personality in depth I kept getting an INTJ Profile as well, with Ambivert Characteristics. The bits that confuse me are the fact that I am both future and past oriented also whilst being a stickler for rules and knowledge of the rules, i often look for creative ways to break them. I also can have issues with Authority Figures and have locked horns with many people who represent authority. Whilst being in some low level managerial positions, I always felt more comfortable advising my more senior colleagues. As an aside, I recall a quote from my father ‘Rules are for the Guidance of Wise Men and the Blind Obedience of Fools’ - This has caused more than its fair share of drama in my life. All for now, good talking to you. PS ‘Embrace who you are and like me try and ‘Value Add’ the Package you come in’

@@onion-headed Hi - Hope you don’t mind me contacting you. Did you find the Frank James site interesting, i found his humour refreshing and a little bit sarcastic, thus reinforcing my INTJ outlook. Since my first awareness of Myers Brigs and my identification with INTJ, i occasionally check out the occasional MBTI sites but I am careful to keep it measured as i believe it can become a self fulfilling prophecy. This can lead to treating it as a Horoscope and blinkering our perception. The little bit of research I do confirms a lot for me and gives me food for thought and growth. If you ever have any questions please contact me. Or if you want to remain private, i respect that. Bye for now, from South Australia …

I to am stuck in the middle of the two types. Basically I am a I dash, dash TJ. About 60 percent INTJ and 40 percent ISTJ. I seem to have a problem with trying to rationalise past, present and future events. I have a longing for memories of the past, structure, responsibility and order. But I don’t always stick to the here and now and often engage in flights of fancy and speculation of future events and what ifs, which conflict with my normally staid approach. I am in my senior years, with a lot of life experiences ( got the badge, cap and t shirt in too many life events ) and whilst I value predictability, rules and order, I can play fast and loose with the same rules and often have a disdain for the same rules and some of the structures of authority. A favourite saying of my father, which I can still hear ringing in my ears - Was ‘Rules are for the guidance of wise men and the blind obedience of fools’ This has got me into no end of trouble through my life, but it’s still in the back of my mind. I won’t go into politics as that is a can of worms to be opened and digested later. That’s ventilated a bit - Now back in my cage for a little bit of self isolation as currently I am unsupervised ...

Satine S asks a very good question. I have taken these tests so many times. Many times my results were INTJ. However, I have also taken these tests where the result was ISTJ. As a ratio, INTJ results were more common but, ISTJ was not a one-off result. My explanation for this is, the personality traits of an individual are not so cut and dried as the people who attempt to explain these things portray them to be. There is situational and emotional overlap whereby a primary trait can be subordinated to a secondary trait given the state of mind of the person at the time the test is administered based on what is present in the person's life at the time the test is administered. So, my answer to Datine, S is, yes. A person can be both and which one you are at a given point in time is controlled by specific life circumstances at a moment in time you are experiencing.

A person cannot be both INTJ and ISTJ. A subjective test made by subjective programmers being taken by subjective people whose answers are going to be treated and corrected according to subjective standards made by other subjective people is very likely going to give you subjective results. In the end, people can very rarely be trusted when it comes to being objective about themselves when answering questions. According to a certain situation or mood, someone might answer a specific question very differently because of various factors, but that doesn't change their type because their type is their default mode. An intuitive type that tried to do a sensory activity on a particular day is not going to turn into a sensor; or me feeling like spending time with a friend today does not make me an extravert. And yet, according to my desires and mood of the day, I can unconsciously answer a question very differently. Ni and Si are very different functions that are not interchangeable; a person might try to develop their other functions a bit more but they are not going to replace the hero function. Tests cannot be trusted when it comes to finding someone's type because of this constant subjectivity. If you want to know for sure if you're Si or Ni dom, you have to study the cognitive functions more profoundly. There is also the theory about the 4 sides of the mind, it is a bit more complex and much longer to explain, but INTJ and ISTJ are never found together. I know the message is 6 months old but I still wanted to clear things up.

Is it a possibility that I am a blend of both ISTJ and INTJ? It seems odd but there's certain aspect of each that fall true to me. However, if I were to be truthful, my personality, at the current moment, leans more towards the ISTJ but everyday it seems like I move closer to an INTJ and further way from an ISTJ. It could be bias but I once read that in order for my life to flourish I must listen to my intuition and I am trying to develop my ability to listen to my intuition

do you notice subtle changes in detail such as if a piece of furniture has been moved very slightly, if a building has been repainted in a slightly different colour, or the slight change in time in a timetable for a train. this would indicate an Si dominant. (ISTJ or ISFJ) or are you mostly oblivious to the small details in your environment and struggle to focus 100% on what is around you and would much rather be day dreaming a scenario about something you want to do in the future (usually isn't in a specific timeline or any at all) and daydreaming how that scenario would play out and what would happen next. This would indicate Ni dominant (INTJ or INFJ) one way to help figure out is compare yourself to people and try and find the differences.
