Can Lewis Jr get back to the potential he had early on? His injury was at the worst time, now he's playing from behind perception wise. Does he have the talent to become an important piece for a team going forward?

One difference between Conley and Lewis is that Conley is significantly stronger than Lewis is ever going to be. Lewis needed to put on a good 20 pounds if he wants to be strong enough to even be mediocre defensively. As for the ACL. I tore my ACL, and I didn't lose much speed up and down however, it kills your lateral quickness every time. Of course, that will decrease anyone's skills defensively.

Never understood why teams full of lottery talent draft more players. How do you draft a player in the lottery with no chance of being a starter?

Building up assets. The only benefit is leverage for a trade, imo.

Agreed at some point after you have drafted like 3 or 4 lotto guys it is time to shift focus away from the draft and on seeing what you have in the guys you got drafted I think this current model puts way to much pressure on guys to perform early or be moved to the back burner

@sirjohnlegion26916 ай бұрын
Kira is indeed a blur, he has the speed, agility and explosive first step to be effective. But Stunted, what do you think of this particular take on KLJR. I think Kira's biggest problem is being too frail, He doesn't seem to take contact or absorb contact well at the pro level. On offense when slashing to score or collapsing the D to hit the open man. When he's being bodied up by bigger stronger guards on the perimeter. He seems to get rattled and knocked off his square as a ball handler when met with physical play. That absolutely affects your ability to play make and distribute, not just your ability to score if you let it. With this being said I don't think is fair yet to categorize him as a "Soft" player or lacking competitive spirit. From what I seen he's competitive, he hustles, goes after loose balls etc Some might chalk it up to his skinny, wiry 6'1 frame and not possessing great core strength to deal with hip checks & bumps from defenders. But when you have examples of small-framed guards who are 6'1 and under like Ja Morant, Trey Young, Prime Mike Conley, Prime Tony Parker, JA Brunson, Donovan Mitchell who is 6'1 but he's not skinny and plays above the rim so he might not be the best example in this case. All are all-star caliber players who can slip, slide, weave, and slither their way through the paint. Absorb contact along the way and finish strong against players twice their size at an effective rate and also drive & kick to the open man at a high level. So I don't think the "he's too small to be effective" offensively is a valid argument alone. It could be a mix of body type and intangibles. As always, great video. it's still too early in his career to write him completely off IMO but he needs a breakout season soon if he wants to still be regarded as a starter on an NBA team.
@buzzerbeater33506 ай бұрын
Basically I agree with you. When people call him soft they aren't talking about him being afraid of contact but he does have a hard time dealing with it. To me he relies way too much on his speed and not enough on skill and IQ. If someone is playing you physically you that to your advantage. Pump fake, use a spin move or draw them into foul trouble.
@sirjohnlegion26916 ай бұрын
@@buzzerbeater3350 Thanks, that's why I felt the word "frail" was the more apt word to describe how his body deals with contact from bigger guards when dribbling or trying to make a play. "Soft" in basketball terms usually is more as an insult to highlight one's lack of competitive nature or assertiveness. In a basketball context, there can be some overlap between "frail" and "soft" but I don't think both are mutually exclusive 100% of the time. I do think a greater focus on Kira's core strength and lower body, perhaps adding a few pounds to his playing weight would make dribbling through contact and maintaining a strong frame less of an issue. Also adding those in-between moves like you said to his arsenal would definitely help. The pump fake, head fake and spin move has worked wonders for Jalen Brunson's game.

My whole family has Kira Lewis Jr. jerseys. He was our favorite Pelican, he still holds a place in our hearts. Kira has a very extensive bag, and his speed is amazing. I don't feel like he got the opportunity to show what he could do. I also think there may have been, synergy issues with him and some of the guys that wound up playing up to his minutes while he was out. I hate that it went down like that. Me and my family support whatever team Kira is playing for.

You should do a stunted growth on my lil buddy Malcolm Armstead. Flew under the radar in high school, dominated AAU and Juco at Chippola. Went to Oregon, played well there. Was the starting PG at Wichita State I'm front of Van Fleet. I think if he hadve gotten a chance to play Trey Burke and had a chance to show his skills against him, he would've gotten drafted. He was better than Van Vleet, just didn't play with a sense of urgency Fred did. Doug Gottlieb said he was his favorite player in college at one time.
