A recent string of robberies in New York's famous central park have captured the attention of the entire city. While crime in central park had been trending upwards since this spring, these recent robberies were committed by individuals who live in NYC shelters for asylum seekers. To date, robberies in central park are 200% higher than they were last year, and although some blame the asylum crisis for the increase, others say the majority of asylum seekers do not commit robberies and that NY's lax justice system is the real culprit.

A family of 4 would get about 1400 a month in food stamps, 1200 a month in cash assistance, a yearly metro card, and than the 1400 a month on top of that. They also are given a 2 or 3 bedroom apartment that at most they might have to wait 3 months for but in the meantime the shelters for family's would either be in hotel rooms or in their own apartment in an apartment building they just call a shelter until they can move them into an apartment mixed with where working people who are paying 2 or 3 thousand a month for the same apartment live while they pay nothing for their apartment and a check from the goverment goes straight to the apartment building owner each month for the actual cost of rent. Electric is also paid for by the program called HEAP and whatever amount of electric they use that is less than the amount given to the electric company gets refunded back to their ebt cards as cash as well.

This is unreal. I know of a disabled man who is a US citizen and he is legally blind and lives on $1,400 a month. Out of that he has to pay for his own rent, and groceries, and utilities, leaving him with only one or two dollars left over every month. It's much better to be an immigrant.
