Also if it was actually time stop, then they wouldn't be able to reach places that would be deemed unreachable by human means (assuming that they can still only do human feats while time is paused) while teleportation should be able to. For example, say there was a patch of land 100 km below you and you were on a cliff with no safe way down. Teleportation would get you down but time stop wouldn't safely.

We can't "go back" to a time where the most controversial thing about politicians was that they can't spell because such a time doesn't really exist. There's always been shady politicians who did way worse stuff. The reason, it wasn't perceived this way was that a lot of people were either paid really well to cover it up or the awful behaviour wasn't a big deal back then.
