Humans are Space Orcs: Passion Ah, I remember it now, and I remember them well. Sometimes, if I sit alone with my eyelids close firmly, and listen hard enough, I can still hear them. The cries of the humans. It was the middle of the war, and we decided we needed more research on these, these… monsters that we have been dealing with. The humans. Even when our guns could take out hundreds in a single blow, they would persevere and always seems to have more. More ranks, more troops, more of everything. They just seem to keep coming. But I've already told you this story, however I… I left out one detail. One sickening, shameful detail that I will never forget. After realizing that humans would never give up, We decided we needed more information. And so, one of our ranks went to a small area of Earth, not yet ravaged by the raging war, and stole four humans. Two adults of both genders, and two children of both genders. The children were the same age, born on the same day. We later learned this phenomenon was called twins. The adults were a few years apart, bound in the way humans would call marriage. We decided it was for the safety of us and the humans that they were kept in separate cells, in separate areas, unable to speak to or hear any of the other humans. This was another one of many mistakes. The adult male immediately began fighting back. As we took him, he fired a few times, mildly injuring a few of us. When brought to his cell, he did everything in his power to escape, even if he knew it wasn't worth it and that nothing would work. He wouldn't eat or drink the provisions we provided him, and we were forced to eventually sedate him to keep him alive for the studies we were conducting. The adult female had similar reactions, however, was craftier and much more cunning than the male, and also refused to eat any food or drink any liquids we provided. The twins, as we would refer to them later, where kept closer than the adults, out of eye sight, but within earshot. They shouted back and forth to each other in what seemed to be a language, called Pig Latin. We were unable to hear their plans or anything that they were saying until much after the war. We learned that they had exchanged hopes and dreams of leaving, prayer that their parents were all right, and loving messages. The female even sang the male to sleep one night. All in all, we weren't able to learn much, and they were becoming too much to handle, so we released them. But we did learn one thing. A chemical reaction in the brain of humans, when put in difficult situations, especially ones that were life threatening. We originally named it something much more scientific, however the humans had already discovered and named this phenomenon. “determination” they called it, a lesson we learned from a simple lawful binding of spirits and their offspring. The other reaction humans show, unlike us, is not seen as a chemical reaction, but as its own growing and developing spirit, and they named it for the Gods. They named it “love,” and as we would come to learn, nothing could break those two reactions, those two spirits, throughout the war. Together, they combined to become something deadly to us, and a beacon of hope to them. They called it "Passion", and not once did we see it falter.
