This is a golden opportunity for a true model railroader to come into as a turn-key operation. It does not get any better than this. But the new buyer/railroader should act fast because the home itself is a beautiful pearl of a home and will not stay on the market very long. It is a gem in a nice community. All Aboard !

This is a real beauty and a labor of real love. I love to see the interesting and sometimes hidden details that people put on layouts like this which can be easily missed and can take many re-viewings to find. I especially appreciate the history involved in transporting building and scenes built many moons ago, it gives something extra to the layout. I sincerely hope the person who ends up with this appreciates it and is a care taker to such a wonderful piece of art.

Hi Kevin, KZbin allow Partners like me a 1/2 hour to video, so you need to keep moving to get this much layout in. There are some layouts that I'll do a 1 of 2 & 2 of 2 video, however the 2nd video receives very few views compared to the 1st so better to get it all in on one video (little KZbin tip for you if you ever do videos). Beautiful layout. A big layout is a dream and many folks dream along different lines. I am sorry you have to relocate and are going to loose the layout. I suspect it might not be something every model railroader wants as they might have different interests in prototype, free lance etc. Like beauty the dreams of model railroaders are in the eyes of the beholder. I truly believe you have built a master piece, thanks for sharing it. Camera work seems a bit off and I will blame the auto focus acting up. Not a knock on the usual good videos this layout visitor usually posts just something that did not get caught in time. Most videos do not have that issue, even so still a great video. Thanks for sharing it with the rest of us.

Well to be fair in that community redfin shows the average price of a house between 300-400k and average property tax between $7500-$8500 the thing that kills you is the HOA @ $150 per mth and they do absolutely nothing. My grandparents have property in FL Lake Nona Area of Orlando ( middle class community) and the house is roughly 2/3 the size of Pete's and has No Basement, No golf course, and its not gated or restricted but is HOA'd and there property tax is around $3000+ per year

Saw a photo of a dumpster filled with the remains of the layout. Took his trains and buildings and chucked the rest. He moved to Wisconsin and close to family and their business where he works. Another sad end to a wonderful layout!

Where was this house location? Likely, he has the money to get a new layout built in his new home. Everything looks professional built and detailed. Nothing was cheap, and lots of room to walk around. I would say this layout cost $400,000 if not more. When the new homeowners expressed no interest in the model train layout, he should have attempted to have it carefully dismantled for relocated to a local Train Club or even in storage.

First thing I thought was why move and give up your life's dream for your kids. They get tired of you really fast if they see you more than once a month. I have the best friends I could ever have but never see anyone more than once every few years. We text and talk on the phone maybe twice a week or month. That is enough for anyone I believe. Being too close to your family just invites them to start controlling and telling you how to live. I say keep a safe distance and don't give up your hobbies for them!

Why is it when you are trying to describe a layout, you can't shut off the noisy train so you can hear what is being said. Not to be rude, what he is saying is not in the magazine and is very interesting.

Hi howard skipper, You're not being rude. Agreed Pete is interesting. When videoing you do what you can, with what you have, when you can, to the best of your ability, and on this day, this is the result. Lou

Not an easy sell, by all means! People not into trains might find them an uninteresting, even bothersome, added bonus; people into trains might not like the house enough (most neat, greatly taken care of, but too "old style" for some). Also, the location will be inconvenient for many. If money were no issue, I would definitely buy it for what it holds in the basement. An amazing playground for anyone's children!

I got inspired by these videos and decided to use Google Earth, and my Carlson Survey software to create a full scale model in "AutoCAD dwg files" of the Bakersfield BNSF yard connecting to the SP line to Tehachapi (You know the one with the famous Tehachapi Loop) and ending in the Tehachapi yard (yes there is a small one there). It will be at 1 to 1 in the dwg file so I could print it out at any scale for a modal railroader to build. A builder could take any portion of the line and at what ever scale he is building and use it for his initial layout then build on to that any way he wants. I have the Bakersfield yard almost complete. It is quite a learning experience. Since the entire layout will be some 56 miles in length I am guessing no body would try to tackle the entire line in one layout, at O scale that would take space for about a mile and a half of track.

Wow I sure bet this was a very tuff decision for Pete to make but I sure hope his wish is granted. He has done such a great job on his train layout! Wouldn’t that be the dream home for young kids at maybe around 10 years of age (the age where they are old enough to know how to properly handle these trains and not break them). When I was 10, my dream was to own a model RR but I didn’t really know how to build this so I would have felt like I have died and gone to heaven if my parents bought this house. Eventually tho, I developed the skills and built my own train layout (definitely not as big as Pete’s but I have a layout tour video if you were interested which I posted January 4) I remember the end of summer 2016, I went to a small train show at the Railway Museum in Owensound ON (Canada) and one of the few vendors there told me and my grandpa a story about how he won a huge huge n scale Train lot for $500 in an auction. It was huge, over 20 locomotives, so many switches, so many buildings, so many freight cars, the list goes on. He told us he got it all so cheap because there was a woman who moved into a house in Owensound which had a huge n scale layout in the basement built by the previous owner and way too big to ever leave the house. So she didn’t want the Train layout so she had a company come in and dismantle the entire thing and then she basically gave away what was left because I’m sure the lot would have been worth thousands. Kind of sad for me to hear that and I’m sure I’d be the same if the prev owner knew. Hope the same dose not happen with Pete’s layout. Thanks for sharing!
