Wow! I don't have the words. I've looked at so many of these layouts but this is in a class by itself. The only thing more amazing than the layout itself is the incredible amount of knowledge in that man's head. Very complex layout without being overly dense to the point of confusion. If I could only point out ONE remarkable thing it would be that this has got to be the only layout anywhere to have a completely "scened" helix. Truly Amazing.

Lou thanks for shooting and posting this video and Bill thanks for letting us into your home to share your incredible model train layout. It's great to see someone that has a love and passion for building such a grand size scale model train collection of railway lines. Most people do not realize that it was the railroads that made America the great country that it is today! And at Christmas most every young boy wanted a train set under the Christmas tree. In my case I got a slot car track, which was the next best thing. Lou, I think the next step in making this video is to mount some miniature cameras on the trains to get a POV shots of the track. Maybe put together a documentary and submit it to Sundance... thanks again.

I appreciate the incredible investment of time, money, imagination and effort it takes to put such a huge layout together. For my tastes, however, I am really attracted to real full scale and narrow-gauge shortline railroads. Some people do tourist scenic routes, others do dinner excursions. But there's nothing like a real train, with real locomotives and real railcars. Steam or diesel - the real stuff that you can get in and ride for miles to a different town.

I like that the gentleman and his friends are expressing their interest in the hobby.... I just feel like the layout is too much in too little space. Its like, they threw down tons of track and said "Well guys, now what do we have room to actually model?". I much prefer more space being spent on scenery. This feels like a giant display case for all the trains that they own that likely barely get run..... I'd rather see one train that gets run over a beautiful layout consistently and is well maintained then 5000 trains that sit stationary except once a year on a layout with more track to go nowhere then destinations to service..... but to each their own.

Yes, they all run. Suggestions? 1) purchase trains & equipment with only the "left over" money - not money for bills, necessities, saving (and be patient saving if there is something you'd really like - it will be worth it). 2) Be ok with the layout the way you like it. 3) Most importantly - have fun :-)

Now I know why my UPS packages take so long to arrive. Those trains were not in a hurry to get to me.

Thanks for the video, I'm not part of the train world, but I appreciate the passion people have for the hobby. Is it common for people to have such elaborate back stories for each layout?
@loucostabile8 жыл бұрын
You're welcome. I wouldn't say this is common to have a model layout like this. This is over the top. Thank you for viewing, Lou

pretty amazing, though it's a shame this is stuck down in a dark basement instead of somewhere where people can easily visit and see it.

Well that's completely confusing as to where things run. Amazing layout and model building. I'm curios, how do you address a derail inside the mountain tunnels?
@loucostabile8 жыл бұрын
There is a space between the wall and the mountain and a way to get to the trains if they come off the tracks from the back of the mountain.

Now to add a little more realism, weather all the visible rail. Just kidding Nice lay out, a labor of love.

A great layout..... HO - It appears at the end that the tracks are pretty spread out... Do you ever entertain the idea of OO scale on your layout? I haven't seen any in person... I heard that it is supposed to be more to scale, when comparing to the wheels.
