As someone who doesn't have home internet atm full offline functionality is a must. I can play any GameCube game on my Wii, for free and without a direct internet connection anytime I want. A nearly 2 decade old white slab is worth more to me than the best of the modern age. That's not to dog on modern gaming, I love Sonic Frontiers and have been having a good time with TotK. The service authentication isn't even a valid excuse either. Steam still authenticates your accounts if you're offline and allows you to play the games you bought. Hell, EA did too back in the day with Origin. It was more annoying since you had to reinput your login credentials, but it validates that it's one of the saved logins on the device and lets you play the damn game. Can't do that anymore with the EA app which is dumb, but not this shit with Xbox is even worse. It's no wonder why they lost/gave up on the console war, it's because they're too stubborn to give up the always online crap that ruined the launch of the Xbox one.

Play singleplayer at then use a program like Wireshark. you will see that you are sending data out into the internet to god knows where. You have btw accepted that they can do this legally because you had to agree to the eula to play the game. ​@@kaijushaman0679 I have downloaded Minecraft Xbox 360 digitally so I can go back to the oldest update. The way this works is that if you buy the game digitally before it goes down, then you have it forever! Even if you uninstall it you will still be able to get it back!! So make sure to buy any games you want before July 29th(?) (I don't remember the actual date)

The even funnier thing is that I was playing Minecraft before that outage, and when it came, I could still log onto MC servers on Java. It's literally pointless having to log on to your Microsoft account to play Minecraft online, it's just big corporation bullshit and I hate it.

The servers arent down forever and they dont go down all the time, it was for 7 hours and people started freaking out

However, this outage was the wake up call for a LOT of people, and made them realize just how terrible always-online is. Yes it was only 7 hours now, but what if this gets more common in the future? What if the servers are discontinued, will I still be able to play my games then? This case is even worse, since minecraft has an offline singleplayer mode and yet you need online to boot it up from the launcher, so it was locked out in the launcher regardless.

There's a reason that there should be a way to set a "Proxy" address that allows people to play the game using specific IP Addresses for the servers instead of doing it normally. This way you can join the server without having to go through all the hoops of getting it connected here and there. But again, there's a reason why I've been playing PC/Steam games just so that I don't have to worry about DRM check in. And yeah, some launchers on PC requires logins but that's only done once. If however you keep your PC on during a power outage and don't do anything, you should be able to have your stuff running while putting the PC to sleep to save battery (best to get some Portable Battery Bank thing as a backup if things end up having power outages for quite some time now.

Will the consoles simply not work anymore by then because it needs these servers to even OPERATE the damn thing? This is why I prefer older game consoles and their games to newer ones.

The launcher needs to authenticate through the xbox servers before it can launch your game, so you need online to boot up a game with an offline single player mode... Absolutely dumb choice. Worst thing is that if you bypass the launcher, the game boots up perfectly fine while offline, so this is all just microsoft bs.

Yeah I contacted Microsoft support about the ordeal and had my codes manually stored on my PC locally. I basically own a phys-digital copy of Minecraft bedrock and java edition (with update compatibility) using a 16-digit code known as a game license key. I usually keep that stored in my documents folder.
