Achieved the CompTIA A+ a few days ago and was searching for where to start gaining AD/home lab experience while I apply for help desk and other entry-level roles, someone on Reddit recommended your channel. I'm a former digital designer that has been on disability since 2019, ready to work again and decided to make the transition into I.T. I have no work experience worth noting but have had a passion for tech and PC gaming since childhood(33 now). Your playlist helps navigating new waters tremendously, thank you so much. I look forward to watching and learning more from your content along the way! Also, shout out to L4D2 and The Walking Dead TellTale game. Both are bangers!

I can proudly say, it was all worth it. I appreciate all that you do Kevin. I am doing some projects to put up on my linkedin and github and this is one that I plan to sit through and work on tomorrow. I have an interview Friday for a remote IT Admin position. I'm almost done with my senior year of college studying cyber security AND studying for Security+ but a lot of the jobs I apply to want experience. I'm hoping I can land this IT Admin job while I work on more projects, network, and work on my craft. I'm the only POC Computer Science major at my college and it's kind of lonely, but finding folks online to network with has been a blast. Good luck with your new position as well, I hope it's going great and continue to put out great content.

@@oneeyedpapi8058 I low key forgot about this comment. Well first I did not get the remote IT Admin job. They waited a whole month just to tell me they went with someone else, which honestly is great cause it didn't really seem like that good of a job anyways. Second a little after that I got hired as the Systems Administrator of the college I graduated from. I've been here since July of 2022 and honestly it's a much better experience. The infrastructure is a bit outdated, but it's been my job to upgrade it, which has been fun. We plan to move to Azure so I've been working on stuff for that. I just acquired the AZ-900 cert, but after a bit I wanna get the AZ-801. We hired a new Network Admin who is my age and grew up in this town. We hang out and game together, so I have someone my age to work with. Overall happy where I'm at

We're progressing the infrastructure in leaps and bounds this summer. So a pretty flooded schedule. Fyi, I have 8 gigs of RAM on my laptop and had to stop on Part 8 because we run 3 VM's at the same time in that lesson to do remote desktop. My laptop was barely handling running two at the same time, impossible to run 3. I optimized each VM as much as I could in VM Box. That helped greatly but it still can't run 3 at the same time. I'm starting the lab over with 16 gigs on my desktop computer. Hopefully that will be enough. I googled it and found that 16 gigs is enough to run 3 VMs at once. Hello Kev. I'm a recent IT graduate and looking to get entry level roles into IT. i just found out about your channel. my campus placements were awful and i can't code. all the job opportunities we got on campus were developer roles and i don't want to pursue that. I'd like to get into IT infrastructure as I have always been the computer guy at College, School etc. I can assemble Desktops and troubleshoot issues. I have deep knowledge of how pc hardware works and I can even do networking. I don't have any certs just my degree. what skills should I work on before applying to desktop support roles? should I just start applying and learn alongside? Would really appreciate your advice.

Hey Kev! Before I start downloading VirtualBox and Server 2016, I only have one personal computer. And, I don't want to make any errors/accidents deleting all my files on the current Windows 10 Home OS. I really want to start learning active directory and doing my own labs this year. Should I buy an additional computer or laptop to get this going? Any help from you will be appreciated!

New pc should work. Make sure it supports vms and has enough memory.

I am trying to start the lab but it keeps saying "failed to open has terminated unexpectedly during startup with exit code 1 (0x1)." any tips why mine is not working Kevin?

@aj__love5919 did you Google the problem online? I don't even know what step are you doing as far as the video is concerned. Need to be more specific. Giving me a random error code is too little information

@@KevtechITSupport My Apologies Kevin I forgot to provide the details! So the issue is that when installing server 2016 I clicked Start and it gives this error message: Failed to open a session for the virtual machine server 2016 lab, The virtual machine 'Server 2016 Lab' has terminated unexpectedly during startup with exit code 1 (0x1). Result Code: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005): Component: MachineWrap I did try to Google to see if my Laptop is disabling anything, I can't seem to find out what is not allowing this Machine to start. I even restarted the machine because at times this has worked for me. I would be very much thankful if you can give me any suggestions as I really want to do this homelab. Your videos have been so helpful to me so I wanted to start my own homelabs too. Thank You!

@aj__love5919 does your laptop have the ability to use virtualization? Is that on? If it's not turned it on. If that option not available that means you can't use virtual box. Virtualization can be found in the bios.

@@KevtechITSupportHi Kevin! Sorry for the late reply, for some reason at times my KZbin message doesn’t go through and I think it is happening again. I don’t even know how it got turned off but that was the issue😂 Thank You so much! I am loving your advices since I’m trying to get into Cyber after doing my Masters. I tried to go for internships but even Internships require 3-5 years💀
