GUYS!! I saw the sun for the first time since October! Living here on Svalbard is wild with all our extreme seasons, and there is nothing like the feeling of seeing the sun for the first time after a LONG polar night. This year I needed it more than previous years I think. So join me for OUR first sun this year and also at sunfest, when the sun shines on Longyearbyen for the first time. I can only imagine how magical it must feel to have the sun back after so long. I know I struggle just with going through the rainy seasons here in New York. I love the rain but having the sun on your face is something else altogether. It must be a million times better after so long. I understand that feeling on a different level. It's liberating after so much darkness with hope of more changes. In our case it can drop to -45c but also rise to 45c. The sun here can become so intense like a desert hiding its burning damage to skin and scorching grass yet towards the last of winter feels so good with much snow on ground. It melts at -4c it's so intense some days as our winters become a brief spring. Soak it up and embrace the moment.

I don't talk about it much in public but last September (2021) was my last treatment of 6 brutal treatments of chemotherapy for high grade Lymphoma. In theory it has worked and I have been cured but one doesn't know officially until you hit the five year mark. But I am sure you have heard or read of people who have avoided death either through circumstance or medical treatments talk about how their world view - their weltanschauung - a kind of joy, appreciation, treasure, in "the moment experience" changing one's life experience. Your joy, energy, in the moment love of what nature has offered you and the good citizens of Svalbard is very similar to this world view of people reborn from near death moments.

Skulle så gärna vilja åka till Svalbard, men när jag kollar flygbiljetter är resorna så fruktansvärt långa. Nästan alla tar 23 timmar. Jag har inte lust att spendera så mycket tid på en flygresa. Har du något tips på flygbolag som har kortare restid till Svalbard (från Arlanda)?

Enbart Norwegian och Sas flyger hit och på en del av turen (antingen ut eller hemresa) så måste man ha en övernattning i norge, annars hinner du inte med din connection. I Maj börjar nattflygen och då brukar de vara lite enklare.

I've spent time in the upper US midwest where just the first tolerable day where you can feel warmth in the air, wear a ball cap and not a wool cap, go out without gloves, it's such a boost for the soul.... quickly followed by a freak cold snap that ruins that feeling.
