I worked along with a few of my female nurse friends during Covid and we made hundreds of thousands of dollars. Few years after Covid, all my female friends told me they had spent all the money we made. And they said it was on clothes, bags and shoes. Me on the other hand bought two houses cash. Consumerism is a killer especially in the black community. I wish more girls can watch this video and take your advice seriously.

Agree with every single point. I’ve been budgeting and being “this girl” since about 202-. All of these steps have genuinely helped me defeat consumerism. I was never into the having 12 body washes, 30 perfumes, and so much clothing that one couldn’t possible wear everything. The only think I really put big money into is traveling and experiences. Especially if that means it will grow my goals / quality of life or help me spend time with family and create memories.

I used to work in a high end retail store and every time new inventory would come in I would be like “wow that’s so cute I want it!” And of course it would be a $400 dress. For a full month, I would pass by it every day and each day I wanted it less and less.. I learned that I was just craving a dopamine rush from purchasing a product and not the actual product itself. Working in retail made me realize how worthless it all is. It’s just material. Window shopping is much more fun now than actually buying the product and going broke(:

You hit the nail on the head, people need to figure out what their dream life looks like. Truly. A lot of people are looking for respectability and thinking it comes with a designer bag, well...I got the bag but that didn't earn me anything. A lot of people are trying to LOOK rich, and not LIVE or BE rich. Its sad. The day I managed to save 5 figures CASH was the day nobody could tell me ISH, didn't matter what brand I wore, or how "rich" I looked, I had a very "F U" energy because I knew I had some backing. It hits different when you have CASH behind you, you move different. You stop caring about what others think or what "aesthetic" you fit into. I feel empowered when I budget. Its another goal.

Lots of people especially celebrities sell their items once they wear it once! lol and people will pay for it! Sometimes you can even sell it for more than you bought it for but I’ve sold nice clothing/bags on platforms such a posh mark etc. I don’t do it often but I don’t feel ALL materials are just a waste. Some materials are worth something to people and they will pay for it.
