There is no batteries in that siren van. It's a piezoelectric effect. By applying force you squeeze a piezoelectric crystal which creates an electric current just enough to load a capacitor which then acts as a "battery" that sounds the siren.

I think Alex is getting a lot of good calls because people have seen he's a genuinely nice guy with a nice family. Also people want to become part of Alex and his success story. Last year was a hard one for the family they lost Dave a beloved member of the family (i believe he became a father figure to both Alex and Melissa) and a fan favourite. Also with the break ins and theft of things that Alex works really hard for took a toll it seemed. But he never stopped being positive and driven and has really earned this run of good karma.

I remember spending a fortune (for us then anyway) on a Barbie house for my daughter in the early 90s when she was little.. came in a huge box and I spent hours and hours putting it all together the night before her birthday. It was SO large. She was pleased with it, but we just had no where really for it to go in our little apartment... we had to get rid of it in the end which was sad.. but I agree, they were too big, where were you meant to put them! And ooh another hoarder house?? 😊

My boys are only 20 and 22 but they had a lot of vintage (to them) toys and books as their dad loved to play with them and encouraged them to collect. At this stage we still have them ALL - like 1/2 a room full of 80’s, 90’s and early 2000’s toys. Their TMNT figures collection (original era) is about 5-10 times the size of the box full you had there, a huge action man collection, Batman Lego, bionicles, some Star Trek, Playmobil, mountains of different sets of army/solder toys and that’s just the bits I can remember offhand. It is so hard to decide what to keep for future possible grandchildren and what to sell and donate.

*Alkaline* batteries do not leak _acid_, by the way... Alkaline batteries leak potassium hydroxide, a caustic agent. Which for cleaning you neutralize with *vinegar* -- baking soda is probably less alkaline than KOH, but won't help much...

With 8 siblings(5 boys) my sister and I were lucky our dolls had heads, hair and limbs most of the time, there was not much of a toy left to save so lovingly as this mom did! Our house is where toys came to die!! lol Good memories though!

All my kids were born in the 1980’s but they didn’t ask for these toys since we didn’t have a tv. Back then everybody played outside year round on bikes, on sports teams etc. I’m glad we didn’t have all that clutter in the house. But, I’m happy that Alex found toys he is interested in and can pass them on to a new home.

My son was born in 1981 & I remember Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Ghostbusters & lots of robot type action figures. He played for hours with them & still has them. The years will be stamped somewhere on the figure. That site also has a section for vehicles to help you piece together missing parts.

The estate guy that we talked to 6 months ago said that noone wants that, and that it's not worth dealing with. Pro Tip. . . baking soda (made into a thick paste) will help clean the battery acid off the contacts. It neutralizes the acid too.
