I bought the Varusteleka Sarma Merino Hoddie in red 3 years ago, it still looks brand new, and it's the best piece of clothing in my wardrobe. I wore it during my 1 week outdoor survival training trip in the mountains of Utah, and it was perfect. I wore on all of my "exotic" excursions in China, Vietnam, Cambodia, etc. (at night or in high elevations when it gets chilly). I wear it daily in the fall-winter--it's hugs the body perfectly (I'm 6'1" and 185 lb, size-Large), so it makes a perfect middle layer. It's versatile, has lots of pockets, and looks good. Best of all, it doesn't absorb odors, so you can wear it in a smoky bar, and it doesn't smell like cigarette smoke afterwards.

After two years my dark grey one is bleached out pretty heavily. It definitely doesn't look new any more. Also the seams on the inside of the arms start to wear down. I still love it, but it has it's downsides. Also watch like it gets longer and longer when he fills the pockets.

Varusteleka makes very high quality clothing. I have worn other brand merino shirts to shreads in under a year of just regular use - and that was premium quality 100% merino wool. I have their 80/20 merino/poly Shirts for 5 years now in daily rotation and stil no holes or chafing/pilling. Cant recommend them highly enough.

Can't beat Merino speaking as a walker/climber typ bod. Makes great underwear and t-shirts as base layers, plus great wind resistant beanies. Antimicrobial, it doesn't get the Helly smell. Nb the pockets you call 'poachers pockets' are a great design feature, mine are where my spare gloves go to keep them warm, dry and handy.

Magazine pregnant. Nope, you rather look like a TeleTubby. I'm from Sweden and I get most of my clothing for hiking from Varusteleka. Hard to get better stuff even if you pay up more. You'll then usually end up paying brand-premium.

3:02 Reminds me of the game bag in Paul Harrell's old Sears hunting jacket, although I imagine that Varusteleka one probably doesn't have the bloodproof lining. 3:28 My dad used to call those "salami pockets". I honestly can't remember if there was a story behind that or not.

I don't think its that expensive, it is only expensive if you compare it to the cheap stuff from H&M and others. I paid for well made stuff around the same money. I also learned that the well made stuff is only more expensive in the short run. I paid for the second to last pair of shoes I bought about 100 euro, they lasted me for 5ish years. The last pair I bought I went cheaper because I had to get them fast, but they didn't really last a year. So after 5 years with the cheap shoes I would be at the same prize or over the expensive pair. So back to the hoodie if it is really well made and lasts I could see myself buying one, so bloke please update how they hold up over the month and years to come.
@BlokeontheRange3 жыл бұрын
Certainly if you compare against big outdoor brands for synthetic technical fibres, it's not expensive at all...
@betaich3 жыл бұрын
@@BlokeontheRange Just did a bit of googling, North face doesn't offer one in wool, the cotton wool option is 50 Euro cheaper, but its cotton wool. From Hugo Boss a cotton wool polyester blend is 139 Euro. From adidas for just polyester you pay 89 Euro, for the Bergans sweater in merino wool you would pay exactly the same prize. So not really that expensive.

I didn't buy any clothing after seeing your Varusteleka vid but I did up buying one of their Puko Forester knives. 😅 What a thing of wood handled beauty after some polishing of the wood and edge of the blade.
