Woolrich used to be the common men's outdoor work shirt back when I was a young man. Woorich hunting outfit 100% virgin wool saved my life once hunting in northern New Hampshire back 1956. I stupidly got soaked up to my arm pits when the ice on a bog gave out. I was ~ 5 miles from camp. Long cold walk. Wool saves cotton kills.

I'm in a native american family, pendleton blankets are the quintessential gift for everyone of all ages. my girlfriend has at least 3 wool blankets. I was once looking into milsurp wool pendletons for camping and remembered those huge thick blankets for camping. I definitely can't use them in a 68 degree house, way too hot. good quality feel, heavy and thick blankets that you know are special
@memes_haram2 жыл бұрын
I’m really happy to hear you say that. I was worried that native Americans would label these Pendleton blankets in Native American inspired patterns as “cultural appropriation.” But it seems like this is more of something that woke white people say about these kind of things. As a Japanese American, I don’t mind people using our silk kimono patterns for example.

It was a British weaver named Thomas Kay who arrived in Oregon in 1863 that started this magnificent family owned company still run six generations later. STOP and think about that a minute! Something people need to understand is a Pendleton item is an INVESTMENT. And an investment that folks from here in the California Sierra, east to the Colorado and Montana Rockies as well as Idaho, Washington and Oregon see as a GREAT value. You get what you pay for!! Our son age 52, has his Dads and his maternal Grandfathers (my Dad) Pendleton shirts that were bought 50-75 years ago. Hand washed in cold water Woolite, and laid to dry or dry cleaned. And the virgin wool is soft, not itchy. And we wear the shirts like a cardigan when a thicker jacket isn't needed for warmth. Some people buy cheap power tools that last a couple years and complain when they stop working. Some people buy a cheap blender versus a Vitamix because they think a Vitamix is to expensive, even though they last decades! Some people complain at spending $80 on a USA made wool shirt and will say they can get a shirt, made in China for $15 at Walmart. I believe in USA made which provides a living wage for my fellow Americans!! I believe in quality!

Merino wool from Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand has helped kill-off the wool industry in Ireland. The wool there had been used for centuries as a byproduct of the sheep meat and milk industry, but 2020 has changed everything and Irish wool is so cheap now, it barely covers shearing costs.

@@prdoohan depends on fleece quality. most sheep are bred for meat and the wool factor has been left out of breeding programs in those breeds/flocks. Coming in late to this, but have to echo your sentiments and say that for this Northern California fella, Pendleton has been part of my life since I was a kid. Started with the blankets. Then with those tartan flat caps, then with the flannels, especially the board shirts. Lots of memories made in them, lots of work done in them. I've had my share of heartbreak with them as they've moved operations out of the US for some of their products, and that just doesn't seem right. But, in 2022, as the kids say, "it is what it is." Anyway, I still have many going strong, and I still love them. And yes, I remember well looking for that label in the racks of the St. Vincent de Paul thrift shop, Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc. Most of the time, as you said, they were washed and ruined, or riddled with moth holes, but sometimes, you'd come across that gem. And what a find. Day would be made. Anyway...great video, as always. P.S. - I'll also say that Filson makes a darn good product, as does Stormy Kromer.

Unfortunately, I still reside in the Peoples Republic of California. I have had Pendleton shirts since the eary 60's when I was in college. There is only about three days a year it can be worn comfortably, but I proudly wear them. Hopefully, I will soon be relocating to Idaho where my father came from. I wore one of mine in the Central Highlands of Viet Nam, it got cold in the early mornings.

Frankly $125 for a shirt you buy only once makes more sense to me than paying $35 for a shirt you'll have to buy 5 times in a lifetime. People have to stop disposable thinking.

I can’t speak for any regional man except the southern man. As a true southern man I understand the value of traditional items and cultural treasures that money has no bearing on. Price has no meaning if you are buying quality. As a Tennessee native, I have spent many a dollar on a quality pair of boots or a great Bourbon. Keep on talking about the things you love. We are geeking out with you. Oh, and don’t lump us southern gentleman with east coast man. We are God fearing, family men who are tough as nails. Praying for you brother...

It’s a USA made wool shirt I’d expect to pay that! Supports the local economy. Consider it’s a $80 shirt and a $50 donation to a American company! 🇺🇸

Yep Oregon wool and exported to Central America.... Dam what a shame that it’s more cost effective to ship your material and get it processed into garments then have it shipped back for resale rather then making it in-house. So is there a wool garment company that IS made in USA of USA materials ?

I remember when you made a video about cheap tools vs American made tools. You ended up saying that a $6.00 chinese wrench works and is a better bargain than a $39.00 American made tool. It was something along those line and I left you a pretty harsh comment about it. Well things certainly have changed since you now wear $300.00 sugarcane jeans and $140.00 Pendleton shirts. Still buying chinese tools?

I'd say it's all about how the item makes you feel. Of course a 1/2 inch wrench from china, and one made in the USA are still both 1/2 inch. They both will work. I think he is at a point in his life where functionality isn't what's #1 in his life. Not to say his $140 shirt isn't functional, but more importantly it makes him feel good. As he said, he has had that same one 20 years. It's never let him down. It's never been a question on if it will like him down. Like a good, high quality wrench. You will never question if it will break on you. He is tired of cheaping out on things. He can afford to do that. I don't think that's to diss on your $15 wranglers, or my $6 discount rack basketball shorts. It's about living within my means. After all, is a $1000 samsung phone not just as functional as a $50 smartphone from a low-end manufacturer? It's a luxury. It makes you feel good to use, and it gives you piece of mind knowing it won't just fail on you. I hope you understand what I mean by all this, and dont get offended by it.

@@JohnSmith-zh3qc No offense but why are you answering for him? Are you assuming that he would say that? I understand what you are saying but I would have preferred to hear it from him. Oh, and when he made the tool video he could afford the American wrench too.
@JohnSmith-zh3qc4 жыл бұрын
@@jamess.829 he is free to answer if he wants. I didn't say "codys says ....", I said "I'd Say it's...." As in, my opinion is this. It's no secret he has money. He could buy just about anything he wanted. Could buy all snap on. What I'm saying is, perhaps he finding now that isn't how he wants to live. Since he has the means to live otherwise. Would you not have all the nice things you wanted if you had the means to afford them? Of course you would. We all would. He can afford to live this way, and more importantly, he seems to be transitioning his life into what he has a desire for most. Like his vice video. Was it overkill? Was it over priced? Yes. Does it bring him joy though? Undoubtedly. I think he is at a point where the joy he feels is more important than the cost.

@@JohnSmith-zh3qc Look, I'm just sending him a reminder about supporting American workers after he said the chinese wrench, which doesn't last as long is easier to buy than the Whopping thirty nine dollar American wrench. Not a debate with you.

@James S. His response seems pretty inline with what wranglers response would be. Maybe you just haven't watched his channel enough, or skipped the videos/parts where he explains his decisions. But to me, this seems to be a spot on response. I don't get what the point of your first comment even is. It sounds like you're just being jealous and spiteful. You know, maybe it makes him feel good to support companies that make products that he likes. Maybe it makes him feel good to buy from and support American business, because I know it makes me feel good. Or maybe, and this may be an odd ball, maybe he has specific requirements/wants from his clothing/items. Who are you to judge on that aspect?
