Never underestimate the distructive power of a super typhoon. I've experienced one Cat 5 typhhon and the hardest part of it is the first 2 weeks after the landfall. Aside from food, clean drinking water is the most scarce necessity, the next important resources after food and water is fuel since there's no electricity and you need it for generators. We used to line up for 12hrs to get a fuel, it was so hard. Fortunately, despite the bad situation, people did not turn into savages and there was no looting.

This was a very severe storm and I sympathies with those who have lost all. I was hit by a whirl wind as we call them in U.K., tornado by the yanks. That was on Christmas eve of all times and it destroyed 5,000 sq, ft of greenhouse which took me a moth to take apart and rebuild so I know how these people feel. The wind is one thing that is very difficult to protect against but the floods is another. I have said over and over again that should not build cities on low lying areas that could be better used for growing crops. Unfortunately this is common throughout the global which is why you get great damage and loss of life and is time government world wide reccognised this fact and build their cities in the hills or even on mountains like here in Portugal.
