It is not only a detailed review of the Panasonic G100, but also the way how I assess a camera.

Thank you for creating one of the best and in-depth camera reviews I've ever seen. I appreciate the fact that you actually used the camera in a variety of ways and that you shared the strengths and weaknesses of this camera. So many reviews out there just said it was ok but actually never used the camera. This review was a breath of fresh air. Thank you!

Hi Otto, thank you very much for your support. Actually, I want to do more camera reviews but I can't grab those new cameras easily. Nevertheless, your support will keep my motives and I will try my best to continue. thank you again

One if not the most in-depth review of this misunderstood camera. Only from knowing the camera's abilities and limitations can one really use it at its best. You gave this camera a fair and detailed review, and through good examples and lessons (like dynamic and latitude for video) you made it educational.

Thank you for your dynamic range tests and latitude test. You explained both really well, much better than some of the bigger KZbin channels.

Excellent and comprehensive review!!! As a G9 user and soon to be G100 owner, I appreciate your thorough and well balanced assessment. Too often when a camera is introduced, the "experts" rush to judgment without spending sufficient time using the camera. Your review clearly walks through the G100 strengths and limitations so we can decide if it is right for our needs. Well done!👍

Thank you and honestly speaking, the G100 is not bad as a compact camera with a viewfinder. If I don't have a G6 already, I will buy this for routine and journey usage, thank you again for watching

I was debating between the G100 and the M50, and went with the Panasonic after finding it on sale. I'm a complete novice with cameras, and this has been the best video I've seen so far on the G100. Thank you for taking the time to make this video, it is going to help me tremendously.

Thank you for a very detailed review. The camera performs very well indeed. As a DP in film industry, what is referenced here as dynamic range is really not that, what you are measuring and experiencing is gain. Additionally log files are not used for lifting shadows, that will only increase noise, rather they are used to protect highlights and to flatten the clipping curve. You demonstrated this well with rhe indoor scene that has in and around 7 stops of DR, using a log file in a more limited dynamic range situation is a very bad idea as you noted. Plus this camera has an 8 not 10 bit color depth for video, so its really best to use this in 709 unless highlights are being clipped heavily, but because the bit depth is 8, your always going to be challenged. NDIR and or polarizer can be helpful, but really this is not the intention of this camera. This camera is really designed around 1080 experience for video and with minimal post processing/color editing in mind. The G100 is a stills and vlog camera, not a full on cinema camera so the expectation of such performance not be imposed on it, this is not a knock on the review, it’s more on how many KZbinrs Place high importance on 4K and above where it’s just not advantageous to use. Great catch on the autofocus single point, that looks great. I just ordered one of these, I am looking at for photography as I love small portable cameras, I already know m43 very well and the system usually offers excellent image quality in a highly portable package. Using m43 at least with older 16 megapixel cameras is like using slide film in some ways. It’s really easy to blow the shot with highlight clipping because the sensor lacks bit depth, it doesn’t mean you can’t get awesome images, you just have to be more diligent. Great review, well done.

This is an excellent review with very useful advice. I have saved it as I ordered the G100 a few days ago and it will be very helpful to use your video as I learn the new camera. I already have the G9 and have ordered the GH5 M2. The G100 is therefore not my main camera, but it will be good for being inconspicuous, and that is often vet useful. People tend to ignore small cameras with small lenses, but become shy with a big camera. Thank you for the time and effort you put into this review (and thank you for the subtitles :) I appreciate it.

Hi, yes...actually, the G100 is very fun to use. Maybe not the best tool for jobs but very good for daily and travel photos and videos. For daily and travel, I always prefer a compact size camera...but still, I love to have a viewfinder. So, G100 is really not bad at this level, especially after considering the price. It does have a very good cost/effective ratio. thank you for your appreciation.

this is indeed the best review of this camera yet.....hats off to you !.....just wanted to ask you ,how you manage to film in rec709 LUT and then compare the footage to VlogL....does the body have the option of shooting in rec709 as in the S5ii or did you apply it in post to footage ?........i am apologetic for the fact that my queries and comments are somewhat late ....regards ..

What are your thoughts about the firmware update of the camera? Also the new firmware update has some sort of webcam function, I'm not sure what else is new with it.
@pinghungwong9732
@pinghungwong9732 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, all the factories try to add value to their products. BTW, I do not really care about the web-cam function and I think the most exciting upgrade would be the RAW capability of those mirrorless cameras. Then, we can have a lot more choices for decent video shooting.

cani ask how long it can record continuously? any over heat issue?
@pinghungwong9732
@pinghungwong9732 3 жыл бұрын
sorry, I didn't make a really long duration recording. my maximum recording is about 30 minutes and it didn't have any problem. I think since the camera didn't get a very high-duty over-sampling image method (FHD will not have a problem while its 4K is a cropped video), plus it's only 8-bit sampling, I think it can record under its recording limit. thx a lot

@@pinghungwong9732 Ergonomically or something else? I am only aware of the poor built-in flash, the 1/50 sync limitation and the mechanical shutter limit of 1/500. Anything else? Thank you.
