I also just want to mention that I moved to Israel for 10 years and gave all my tanks to my mom. She had one of my 20 gallon long tanks that I gave her before the move - she put it outside (in Florida) and she asked recently if I wanted it back. I got it back without any black rims (it deteriorated 100% in the sun) and the silicone is flapping around on the outside, but it is still sealed on the inside. I put a Viquarium in it with like 50 pounds of rocks and half filled with water with my baby turtle. It's doing GREAT! So a very cheap 20G long made probably 15 years ago is doing a lot better than some of these new tanks that you buy from Aqueon and Top Fin. I've seen people buy these tanks and they fail anywhere from 6 months to 2 years. To me, that's not right! It should last... dare I say... a lifetime?! I think the silicone they are using now is not done very professionally, and it seems like a cheaper grade. I have a 75 gallon Aqueon that I've had about a year now and I'm always checking for water leaks! hehe.

I have this tank. I purchased it around eight years ago, and other than the crappy lid and light it came with... I haven't had a problem (knock on wood). I did notice you have it on top of a transition (carpet to bare floor). I would never set up a tank on an unlevel surface, doing so can cause stress on the seams. I have been looking into getting an acrylic bow front to replace it... because I like the seamless look.
@FoolyLiving Жыл бұрын
Oh no! I was thinking about getting this tank. I guess its too tall to be so bowed in the front and it just won't hold up? Its so pretty how you had it set up. I'm sad for you that this happened to you and your fishes, its pretty devastating to have a crash or a tank leak. It does give you an opportunity to do something new, even though its very forced on you!
@UnderPresser Жыл бұрын
The tank is fine, its the stand that caused his problems. No way some cheap, topheavy stand made of plywood is going to support that weight.

Thanks for the vid! I've always seen this tank at petsmart and was recently looking into getting it, will find something better.

You're welcome! You might have gotten a tank already but if not Petco has a sale going on now.

I gor a 36 bow front hinged top...you have to use 8mm tank clips to hold the top, but it's a cleaner look...add a good light on top
@UnderPresser Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the review. The leak is due to the shitty plywood stand, and not the fault of the tank. A properly leveled and supported tank will almost never leak. There is no way in hell that stand was ever going to last for over a year. If a stand has to be kept dry to preserve it's integrity, it's probably a good idea to not be storing 36 gallons of water on it. And where do you get it from that an aquarium is only expected to last 5 years tops? I never heard that before. A well made aquarium should never leak for as long as you own it.
@iggy1connman Жыл бұрын
Be sure stands are proper for the tank your using and level. Did you try filling on garage floor or unfinished level basement near drain?

Mine leaked as well after less than a year. They won't replace it. Pure junk. Bowfronts tend to leak.

@TheAquaticCoder2 жыл бұрын
That's smart to do if you can. I don't see any reason it wouldn't last you a long time then.
@johnseo81602 жыл бұрын
What do you mean by reseal. Pls evaluate as I have this tank as well and want to prevent any leaks.
@TheAquaticCoder2 жыл бұрын
@@johnseo8160 I would search up "reseal aquarium" on youtube or google. Basically the silicone that keeps the glass together you would be re-doing or going over again. It is the black rubbery material between the glass on this tank. I've never done it so all I can suggest is researching it yourself to see if it's something you want to try.

I’ve heard nothing but bad things about those plastic bottom top fin tanks! Thinking about adding some angels in with my 4 baby blood parrot currently in a 75g how many can I add? I was thinking 4 black angels. Love your content!
@TheAquaticCoder2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Baby angels and parrots will be fun to watch grow up! I agree that 4 is a good number. I wouldn't do more than 6 angels at most because the tank will be pretty full with 4 bps/angels when fully grown.

@@TheAquaticCoder I’m either going with some black marbles or koi angels! Most definitely I’ll eventually shoot for bigger tank haha I been in the 75g club for 6 years now.

@@gabrielramirez4908 be careful with multiple angels... They do indeed get very aggressive when spawning. 👍

The leak is in the front?
@TheAquaticCoder2 жыл бұрын
It was in the front left. Hard to see exactly where. I live in an apartment so it wasn't easy to do much testing. If I had a garage or basement I probably would have or tried to reseal. When this happened the priority was stopping more water from getting on the floor haha

As mentioned... just because one Topfin aquarium leaks doesn't mean the rest of them will! Maybe perhaps how the tank was handled prior to getting it home or someone fell asleep while adding the silicone sealant on the assembly line!! Hard to say but don't worry.. each tank is different than the other... Another way of looking at it is like this: "his car got a cracked windshield doesn't mean yours will too"!
@DanieL-by6xs Жыл бұрын
Poor quality...tank should last a minimum of 10 years. My Aqueon 26 bowfront is 16 years old with no leaks

I had been considering buying just the tank and using a rectangular solid wood stand. I cringe every time I see particle board anything. There is no practical use for it where you don't end up with problems. I've had to replace all the floors in my home because they were particle board. And weakened from moisture. It should be illegal. I was thinking of using it for another small salt tank. And not using the lid but a plexiglass and screen top that will sit inside the rim. But just saw another video of the same tank that the front glass blew out. Nighmares!
