To be completely fair that isn't Jenevelle's conscious decision, it's Shars. We see that her devotion isn't entirely because of indoctrination but some sort of actual mental block that prevents certain information that's damaging to Shar to be said by her. We see this control expressed physically when Shadowheart suffers from the wound Shar put on her hand.

2:35 It's a nice touch that Astarion disapproves after you say that you'll stay up with him at this point in the game. He hasn't told anyone yet of his past and about him being a vampire, so him asking to keep the first watch is his excuse to be alone, to think and to feed.

@@skyfallshome8169 They don't sleep, but they do need to trance for 4 hours, or they suffer the same effects as sleep deprivation. That said, they ARE still great for watch duty since they can be fully rested in half the time as other races, which is something most of my characters (including Elvish ones) will point out when determining watch shifts in any campaign I'm in. (A couple are too nice or too uninformed to point that out, but most are pragmatic enough to try to make sure watch shifts are handled as efficiently as possible.)

You get his approval if you thank him for taking first watch and saying you'll sleep better because of it, so he likes it that you trust him. Then again I play a Lolth sworn drow there so I could literally trance 4 hours and then take watch while he goes to sleep the other 4 hours of the night.

And even that's debatable, much as I hate the idea of Gale sacrificing himself like that, because the way it sounds Mystra didn't know about any other option sadly? Astarion and Shadowheart are VERY jealous and easily offended. You'll get fewer "approval" options if you don't speak to them first/sooner. They'll shut down a lot of convo if you leave them later.

@@kassjazzy Ironically, despite my playing a character that is literally named Paranoia (Tiefling virtue name) who is cannonically very cautious by nature, Shadowheart's insistence that everyone else is suspicious combined with the fact that she's a Trickery Cleric and a follower of an evil god has caused my character to view her as the MOST suspicious despite the fact that she's otherwise been pretty nice so far... (I'm playing as a character I use in RL D&D games, so I'm trying to approach things the way she would)

It’s my 2nd playthrough and I just discovered this: If you camp in the wilderness and you talk to Lae’zel first, she’ll do ab inspection of you and then you can talk to your other companions for their follow-up on the inspection results. Loved it!

First time seeing/hearing that Gale dialogue with my second playthrough - was kinda surprised when he uttered 'Go to Hell' (wasn't something I expecting coming from him this early in the game; given his earlier good spirits) though he seemed relieved my Tav didn't take it personally (answered his statement with the 'And a good evening to you, too!' option).

Oh yeah, it also matter during the tiefling party! Wyll react differently if you speak to him first or to any of the others first! Probably other moments where it matters, but I didn't even know about this one! This game is just incredible, we're gonna be finding small little details like this for years to come I'm sure!

Another little thing I noticed in my playthroughs: The first dialogue options for the first night also depend on how "Active" you were in your first day. I imagine for the sake of recording time and whatnot you assembled the crew and went to bed quickly based on the companions (particularly Lae'zel) noting that you're "Resting on your laurels". I do know that Lae'zel's first night dialogue is much more positive if you've spoken to Zorru.

Yeah, by my first night, I already reached the Druid's Grove and saved Arabella, promised Sazza, recruited Wyll, met with the paralyzed Tiefling in that locked cabin. My first interaction with Astarion was much different than what I see here. It was the stargazing scene.

Yesterday I decided to look at some of my old saves and now the interaction with them is better, Gale for example just said "what's going on, your mind?" until he felt sick and asked me for an item, he just told me that, which took about 3 long rests. Astarian hardly talked either, he just said he was a magistrate. Now the dialogues were very fluid. The only one who doesn't talk to me is Wyll and I don't know how I have 76 affinity with him, Gale loves me with 89 affinity, but he only knows how to ask me about my mind..... and talk about Mystra... There's no way to digest a romance with him like that. Karlack changed her expression after correction patch 11, for me she just talked looking suspicious, affinity 24 with her, and yesterday she spoke smiling :) these silly details make a lot of difference to me x) but I confess that I think there is little interaction with Wyll, I walked the underdark with Gale, Wyll and Astarian and Wyll barely says anything, and when he does... he asks about the rat diet :/ a repeated dialogue for me... I almost threw him over the cliff yesterday

Wyll has a LOT to say in the Goblin Camp, the Grove, and Auntie Ethel's place. Believe me, Wyll has been saying plenty as a companion in my run. They all have. Something happened along the way for you, I presume.

When i talked to either Astarion or Shadowheart first, the second always got bitchy :D But Gale is just like "Whatever". He would always talk even if you don't talk to him first. Just sometimes his dialogues go under. You have to make sure they don't drown himn if you want to talk to him more^^

@@kassjazzy Haha, you need to know about Moonrise or that Halsin is captured and then long rest. So go to the grove and speak with Nettie or Zevlor and then longrest. IF you longrest in the cave, for example where Zevlor or Nettie lives, the scene will be a bit different with him saying he is admiring the ceiling :D If you sleep outside, he admires the stars and then your face arrives... 🤪Good luck!

In my first game I had some of these dialogues, mainly Gale's, then in my next game, I practically did not rest until I reached the Goblin camp, so I did not find that Boar that Astarion killed, I prolonged the rest and Astarion simply tried to bite me that first long rest.

@@pikajulie_art For what I've seen, it's because Gale's scene is pretty much unaltered regardless! Like a grounded scene, so to speak. So it doesn't matter if you go to him first or last, this particular scene will always be the same. Afaik, whenever the companions have the !, the scene/dialogue will always be the same regardless (don't quote me on that part, I might be wrong!)

I think while the other three are all jittery and untrusting and looking outward, Gale has just retreated into his head and gone broody. The other three have their heads on a swivel and are watching the rest of the camp like hawks, Gale would struggle to notice if Alfira spontaneously appeared and started a consort nearby.

Huh...I Wonder why everyone opens up so fast to me. No one talks rudely for long, even characters I put off, like Wyll and Astarion. Hell, before the party, both heavily want to sleep with me, and talk tremendously positively. Maybe because I spam long rests? :/ I mean, before I leave Act 1, I take like, 10 at minimum, so maybe it's the constant "Hey Friend, how's the journey, anything to add?" That brings the vibes out.

Wyll and Gale both are simps, tried to romance me even when I wasn't actively trying. I never fed Gale any magic items at all- barely spoke to him at all. I talked to Wyll more admittedly because I was intrigued by his situation. But the males seem to be easily romanced except for maybe Astarion. He only wants to sleep with you pretty quickly because of his background and stuff, but from my understanding romancing him is a bit more difficult.

Guess i screwed myself out of most the character development. I feel like the game needs more distance, it takes very little time to walk all of act 1.

you need to do a long rest before entering the grove/speaking to Nettie or something like that. If you do your first long rest after that these interactions are skipped never to appear again.

So how exactly do you trigger this scene? Because I never had them and the description aren't any help. Just a bunch of hash tag.
