My personal opinion, from my own experiences, there's just too much data and too many roles that need to be filled by skilled and knowledgeable professionals in this space. I would hate to speak too soon, but I cannot imagine it ever becoming too saturated. As you mentioned informatics keeps evolving, so there will always be a demand for people who can keep up with the changes.

It was helpful because I was trying to determine if cybersecurity was in this field also I didn’t want to get into it and get bored😂. But I can’t do lifting or bedside and honestly don’t want to supervise anyone just give me the computer and let’s dance! 😂 also someone mentioned the certificate for informatics. Currently I have a BSN in nursing. Is there a difference between getting my masters and getting the certificate and informatics
@_mshsrn9 ай бұрын
Hi Dr. Stacy, please accept my super delayed response! Would a cert be better than a masters? I really think it’s kind of relative. For cybersecurity, I imagine a degree or very specific training would be needed beyond an informatics cert or masters. Highly technical? But in general a masters or cert in nursing informatics/health care informatics may open newer opportunities outside of direct patient care. And I identify with you 100%, let’s live the soft life Lol

I'm debating between Nursing informatics and healthcare informatics. I want to have a broader field of study and be marketable as well. What's your say on it? Thank you!

Soo, I went with health informatics because I wanted to be less in the nursing space honestly. I think that if you want to impact the nursing practice and innovation it’s good go with Nursing Informatics. The world of health informatics can be hard to navigate if you don’t know exactly what you want to specialize in or the job you are aiming to have. But… I see health informatics as broader in a sense

Thanks a lot for the nice talk and for overviewing some points,, I'm a healthcare pro and I have a question, does healthcare informatics requires great skils of technology..??? I mean I can clearly see how significant this speciality is and how growing it is, but I'm afraid to enter it because of the fact that I don't know a lot about IT, I thought of getting a postgraduate degree in health informatics but still not 100% about this step 🙄🤔🧐

Hello! I want to start off by saying thank you for making this video because I was thinking about getting a masters in health informatics. Currently, I have my bachelors in health science but I found out recently that I don’t enjoy clinical work as much as I hoped I would and wanted to veer towards something more health/tech/management related instead. What specializations are in health informatics? I saw stuff online related to pharmacy informatics, nursing informatics, and general health informatics, but I was wondering if there was health informatics for each health related field? Such as optometry, dentistry, dermatology, etc.? I don’t know if that makes sense but I’m also really trying to figure out what specializations exist within the health informatics field. I really appreciate any feedback/advice! Thank you ❤

Hey Lilly! Yeah so a Masters in Health Informatics degree would generally cover all healthcare disciplines. For example, if a dentist got a health informatics degree…he/she could influence the world of informatics within dentistry. So the word dental informatics could be used “loosely” or “officially”. But there isn’t really a “Dental Informatics” degree per se. So with your background (Bachelors in Health Sciences), it would be good to get clear on if you think you might want to more hard science technical (database/cybersecurity/user interface and design) or managerial/leadership or more data analysis/processes/workflows…. Asking for a university’s core curriculum courses for informatics degrees, including descriptions of the classes, might be a good starting point for getting feel for what u lean towards most. Also, programs are not all made equal

Actually from a quick google I saw somewhere offering a graduate certificate in dental informatics…! So there’s that :)

I’m a brand new nurse, graduated in December.. I’m thinking of getting my MSN before going to work but I’m not sure which route would be the best in the long run. I know everyone is going to want some kind of nursing experience, but I’m hoping informatics won’t require too much direct patient care experience since that’s not where my passion in healthcare is anymore (I thought that’s what I wanted before going in but clinical experiences soured me on bedside)
@_mshsrn Жыл бұрын
I hear you. Of course bedside experience is what makes you a better asset when when going the informatics route...because you can use your nursing perspective. But its also good that you will have a clinical degree. That allows you to explore clinical informatics in general... if your really thinking that route is more suitable for you! I might say, if your not yet sure what the end goal is going to look like, maybe there is no "best route in the long run". You can fine tune as you go

The logic is even simpler than that. If there is a shortage of nurses and the shortage is more severe now than when you made this video, then it would stand to reason that there's going to be a shortage of healthcare informatics. Right now WGU is super low cost so I'm eyeing it.
@_mshsrn6 ай бұрын
Nice! Discounted education Loll. I wouldn’t say there would be a shortage of healthcare informatics though since any healthcare professional can operate in this discipline!

Currently taking a professional certification in health informatics. I’m an ER nurse hoping to transition into health informatics. I heard it came be hard to break into

Hi Leeah, please accept my delayed response. Girl yes. It is still something I’m pursuing, but I still might have more knowledge than others so sharing what I know. I do wish I knew what health informatics was before pursuing nursing. But at least we have a wealth of healthcare background that would beneficial to transitioning

Hi there, I've watched a couple of your videos and they are so insightful! I graduated with a MSN in Healthcare Informatics in 2021 and it was a bit difficult to find a job in some of those roles you mentioned due to lack of experience. I'm currently working as a CDI specialist which I think will provide some experience. I had 19 years of floor nursing experience before taking on this new role. I think it was definitely "wrong timing" for exploring new opportunities since we were still in the mix of Covid. Do you think getting the Informatics certification is a valuable decision? Thank you :)
@_mshsrn Жыл бұрын
Hi Keri, thank you for reaching out. I'm sharing things as I learn because of the frustration I felt trying to get work experience in the areas I found most interesting as a practicing nurse. To be honest, I think you likely have a great foundation with many years of floor nursing And CDI work. With all that was happening with Covid, I found it my most optimal time of opportunity. I realize this was mostly due to how I tailored my resume to the jobs I was applying to. Of course my recent MSHS w Informatics concentration was helpful... But I just don't think an Informatics Certification is worth it for you. I think spending your time on networking and/or getting that great experience to translate as valuable in the informatics space is your best bet

Hello, I'm an Optometrist from Nigeria. At this point of I'm confused on the career part to really choose for my masters degree. I used to consider getting an MPH, but currently I started a course on Google data analytics and seriously I'm loving it, so I'm thinking of going for health informatics. I want to know if it's worth it or should I just go for MPH. What are the chances that Health informatics would keep my pockets laughing and blushing?
@_mshsrn Жыл бұрын
Hi Franklin! Greetings from USA. I like that personification of your wallet hahah, in that case I would say if you can picture what you want your end goal to look like...then you can know which route to go. School programs vary, but I imagine with an MPH you are learning a wide variety of policy, analysis methods, research ect. and healthcare informatics is likely "included" in there. MPH might be a great route too
@justastan2869 Жыл бұрын
Oh my God, we’re literally in the same boat, down to the google data analytics course. I’m a pharmacy graduate and was thinking of health informatics too, however I’ve heard it might be hard to find a job. In your case, you can take an MPH that majors in health informatics. Augusta University in the US offers this, goodluck.

Hi. Thank you for this video. But I have queries, I have Masters in computer science and I am interested in Health care informatics. What program (degree or diploma ) I have to study to get a job in health informatics? Please advise
@_mshsrn Жыл бұрын
Hi, you can get a BS or Masters in Health Informatics if the courses within those degrees interesting to you. Or a health sciences degree with a concentration in informatics

From my experience Nurses do not do well in health informatics they don't understand the data and are poor at building, more and more companies are hiring people with IT background then clinical background. People with IT background adapt much faster to health informatics and are cheaper to hire. I believe in the future there will be less people in health informatics with clinical background, Nurse positions in health informatics will be limited
@_mshsrn Жыл бұрын
This is interesting, thanks for this insight!!Sounds like you are referring to the jobs that are very much more technical like software developer, software engineer, UI/UX, system administrator?? Can you name some of them?

I'm referring to clinical informatics analyst, I'm a consultant, I mainly consult for health system using epic, this is a complaint I hear a lot
