Hello Norm; Just started catching up on watching your channel. When you built the 'barn-condo' building and cleared the land, there is not enough area for all the runoffs. If you create a storm retention pond 1/2 the area of your concrete slab, and approx 3 feet deep, this will help.

In some ways it's fortunate you were able to observe/study your site's run-off patterns during a fairly heavy rain, as all the problem areas very quickly become apparent. Yeah, it makes a big mess doing earth moving under those conditions, but again the silver lining is that you can almost immediately see what is working and what isn't. And as much as I hate to bring this up, once you have positive drainage away from the building, and flow streams established, you'll need to give thought to erosion prevention measures.

True, Rome wasn't built in a day. I just thought that like many of you in the States, you don't install gutters, but in our country they are on almost every building. I only left them on our bakery because the roof isn't that big. Greetings from Berlin@@MountainBeaches

@@hansmuller9121 Every building I have ever owned in the USA has had rain gutters as do most of the buildings I see. Maybe there are parts of the US that don't have them but my experience is that rain gutters are pretty standard on most buildings. We'll probably add them to our barndo at some point down the road.

Hi norm an kim norm you need a narrow bucket with ripper teeth. Start of from ground level dropping down 3 inches then pull back away from building then deeper 6 inch deep pull back 3 feet then deepen cut channel to 18 inches just like big steps down away from the building then cut 2 inch diagonal cuts in between so water can constantly drain . Over the winter you may need to lean them out as silting can happen . Then in the spring you can put I proper drainage culverts to have permanent solutions can do the same in area where ever water is pooling till spring time. I know its a swampy mess as rapid thaw can cause a lot of damage when deep snow and frozen get snow blower attachment for tractor and keep snow level low that way when rapid thaw happens there is less run off just a few suggestions as this has worked for me many times as water can do huge damage to property and best to prevent lovely video hope you both ars keeping well and I am enjoying your journey .

These conditions are absolutely the worst. When the ground is still frozen and the rain and snow melt can't soak in, it will just run and accumulate where you don't want it. You're on the right track in putting in ditches to carry it away, and I strongly recommend the advice many others have given in installing roof gutters, with downspouts you can drain away from the building.

I have seen lots of comments about gutters. What I think is your contractor did a lousy job with the pad for the building. Should have been graded for drainage away from the building when it was built . Where you live the rain you got is not a 100 year rain. It’s pretty normal year to year
@MountainBeaches10 ай бұрын
The final grading was my responsibility, which I did a few months ago. The problem was the snow not allowing the water to run off.

Great job so far Norm at getting some relief from the monsoon rains and figuring out where your water and ponding problems are. The majority of comments say guttering water away but they forget that you have to have a path of least resistance to keep it away from the building . As with the back of the building the grade should be away from it on all sides which you are aware of. Sometimes the flow of water gives a good indication as to where it wants to go it doesn’t always take a lot to help Mother Nature out or gravity.. I’m sure both Kim and you have already decided on gutters anyway. You probably need to get the small bucket up by the implement parking in case you wish to change it out before venturing out to far. This video is almost two months old and hope you both had a great holiday time with family. Can’t wait to see what has happened over these last two months of progress. Be careful and stay safe my friends God love ❤️ ya both.
