"When you have lived with prophecy for so long, the moment of revelation is a shock" Always loved the way that's written. People often get so enamoured with prophecy that they forget that at some point, it will actually come to fruition... when legends become very real, and times change to reflect it.

Crucial section of the book and perfectly well done in the film. In a nutshell Jessica’s use of the word maker ( makyr) is the fulfillment of a Fremen prophecy concerning the arrival of the lisan al gaib, the mahdi the messiah that will destroy the oppressors of the Fremen and lead them to freedom on a transformed idyllic Arrakis.

In the book, Jessica intends to use a translation of the word "knife" from the Chakobsa language: "maker of death", but when Shadout Mapes suddenly cried out, she stopped herself, realizing "maker" was the important word, and pretended instead to understand, basically saying "Do you think I wouldn't know of The Maker" not realizing "Maker" was their word for Sandworm.
@BaronFeydRautha2 жыл бұрын
@@kirinrex It also helps that the Missionaria Protectiva basically set this whole thing up several thousand years prior. Jessica being chaotic neutral she F'd up the Sisterhoods plans. Then ran away from her crazy daughter back to join the Scheming witches. At least a Harkonnen did technically become Emperor, my family has THAT consolation prize, I guess.

It's because a lot of modern people have no idea how deeply religion affects someones psyche. If jesus appeared in front of a Conservative religious Christian they would no doubt start crying and fall to their knees. This is the equivalent of whats happening to this woman here, Jessica is literally the mother of their messiah. At least from what the Bene Gesserit taught them.

This movie had a lot to condense and fit in in 2.5 hours while also not being confusing to a general audience. That would have been a little too much of detail because then you'd have to go into explaining the Fremen have hyper coagulation and that's kind of getting off into the weeds and shifting focus from the main points that need to be hammered in. I think the movie isn't perfect (I give it an 8.5 from objectivity and a 10/10 for my love of it) but it does a mostly fantastic job of explaining the main details of the larger story and keeping mainstream audiences entertained while last not mainstreaming it too much and losing what makes the story special.
