Hi Abi and Pete, it is probably unlikely that you read the comments here, but if you do, I wanted to let you know that I found the brief discussion and perhaps the desire of becoming more “intellectual” and more knowledgeable about current affairs really interesting. Frankly, I think everyone should, because we all are part of society and the way we live, vote, and consume affects the life of others as well as the future of our children and future generations. While I agree that the TV news is often terribly negative and sensationalistic, there are other media (e.g. magazines like The Economist, talks, documentaries, etc.) one can resort to keep abreast and acquire valuable and interesting background knowledge. It seems very much what Abby wants is paramount, Pete looks like he can’t even enjoy his Christmas party. He asked at points to not continue the conversation and she just continued. You guys gotta compromise. Pete you can go out to your Christmas party or golf and have a blast with your friends. But if she's begging you to come home at a normal hour because she's been planning a big family getaway the next day and said that this is important to her. Then yeah you kind of screwed up by staying out all night then sleeping the entire car ride like a bum while she took care of the kids all by herself....Not much of a vacation for her. It is hurtful when you ignore what she asks and do what you want. She makes tons of compromises for you I'm sure. I think just apologizing and acknowledging how much effort she put in to the trip for your guys family would be nice. It's really the thought that hurts the most in these situations. You guys are a great couple but yeah acknowledging when you hurt your partner is important.
