Hi Craig, any idea how deep the foundations are? I know you didnt lay them, but curious how deep they are, cheers
@CraigToddBrickwork
@CraigToddBrickwork 2 ай бұрын
Yeah mate we didn’t lay them but it’s 900mm minimum dig for an extension.

Just a question about wall ties,how does the water get to the outside leaf if its full of insulation,iam not the brightest but would the insulation get wet?and stop the water reaching getting across to the outer leaf,not knocking you your doing a good job but I always look at logic,have a good week my mate
@CraigToddBrickwork
@CraigToddBrickwork Жыл бұрын
It’s a great question mate and quite a common debate to be honest. Myself included, the logic says, keep cavitys free and clean but then we are told to jam full fill insulation in there on the specification. The same on new builds, they get pumped full of insulation after its built. The debate is, wont it get wet and cause dampness. I agree with the logic mate 100% but we do what is asked of us. It’s all to building regs and good standards, its just the logic behind it. To be honest there should be no moisture in there anyway and I’ve never heard any issues regarding it. Its always been done like this, since I started nearly 20 years ago now. Hope that helps mate 🙂 Really appreciate the compliment to mate, thank you 🤝 i didnt take it as knocking my work, it was a genuine question mate 🙂 You too Anthony, have a good one 👊🙂

@@anthonyworthington6495 i hear lads down south are doing 150 cavitys, 100 kingspan with 50 airflow. Seems more logical to me. I did one up here in newcastle like that last summer. 50 kingspan with 50 airflow, i think it was beefed up for the uvalue with insulated boards inside. Its more of a chew on though isnt it, normally put the brickwork up first and tape the blockwork in after. But the blocks need to be ip first for the kingspan to be taped that way doesn’t it 🤷‍♂️ Regardless it needs to be built to the spec doesn’t it 👌

do the guage on the profiles go with the existing house guage? as what if the existing house is out?
@CraigToddBrickwork

Yeah but you need to mark the house gauge onto the profile 🙂

Thanks Simon 🙂 I’m unsure of the correct name, i was labour only on this job & the client ordered everything. The closest i found on google was ‘Imperial Bricks Facing Brick Weathered Pre War Banded Wirecut 73mm’

Enjoyed the video but one point to raise weep vents are for allowing fresh air in to dry out possible condensated cavities NOT to let moisture out
@CraigToddBrickwork
@CraigToddBrickwork Жыл бұрын
Thanks Kevin I’m glad you enjoyed it mate 🙂 Really good point regarding ventilation, i do agree Kevin and often miss that out when I’m explaining the purpose of them. However they do let the moisture out, not that its going to be running like a tap anyway like but anything that goes onto a tray leaves through the vent. Stepped trays on a garage thats attached onto a house for example. From the ridge the trays are stepped down to the bottom of the garage roof where there is a weep hole to let water escape in that last tray. If that makes any sense, hopefully i explained that well enough 🤣

I’m a bricklayer of many years and they are for air going in to dry moisture not water coming out as they are for the lead cavity trays vented top and bottom as they are in timber frame houses when warm air from inside house meets colder air with in the cavity it causes condensation fresh air through the vents dry it out also in the case of vented solums 🤣
@CraigToddBrickwork
@CraigToddBrickwork Жыл бұрын
@@kevinstewart301 yeah i do agree kevin 👌 like i say theres not running water 😂 but it can leave there and as you mention the ventilation will dry it out before it could ‘drain’ through the vent 👍 Nice comment mate, appreciate it man 🤝

As fullfill cavity why don't you do brickwork first set your openings then back it up never seen the point of Blockwork first unless using celotex
@CraigToddBrickwork
@CraigToddBrickwork 10 ай бұрын
Normally I would however the brickwork is 83mm gauge and i find it best to get the blockwork first up so the ties end up on the right course 👌
