Bars. I think the biggest barrier for people on KZbin is, authenticity. A lot of us grew up watching this platform and saw normal humble humans become larger than life. So now instead of people starting as the human , they start with the façade. And I think the audience is too smart for that.

I have 935K subscribers. Listen folks, there is a bunch of videos out there like this one that is trending and they are telling you that KZbin is on EASY MODE. They are lying to you. It took me hundreds of video uploads to gain traction and doing it every day for the past 3 years. It's not easy guys. #facts

My whole point is it takes consistency… so you saying it takes hundreds of video uploads just proves my point. Haha! You didn’t give up. And you stuck with it 🙌🏻

I’ve been on this over 4 years and close to 700 videos, consistently posting weekly for 3, changing niches 4 times, and what do I get? One word here and there: ‘don’t quit!’ ‘You are amazing’… blah blah blah…. And that for the consistent 10 people that watch truly my videos… just posted one this morning and, like story of my life, 15 views in 3 hours?! Got a friend that does not even know how to talk to a camera and matter what video he posted, get 100’s of views en seconds, and he is not even big! 😡

Consistency for the win. You gotta do the REPS. Like a World Champion in sports. Just do the reps!!

@DetroitNinja you have all of those subs and you still don’t have a 500k-viewed video. I have under 7k and I’ve removed viral videos, and I still have a 500k viewed video. Your content doesn’t solve problems for most people on this planet. It seems that the people that complain about KZbin, are the same people that think they should get paid … even though their content isn’t valuable. Find your target audience; find their pain points; solve those pain points by addressing the problems they search for; create a product that would make their life easier; and voila … you’re rich. That takes effort, but it’s not difficult.

This is the #1 problem I'm having on KZbin right now: Perfectionism. The hardest part of the video creation process is recording. I find it so hard to just hit record and start.

Nolan's right. I believe I will succeed in my musical-journey because I'm committed to the reps. I'm not trying to be perfect. What you see is what you get. I spend 25 minutes writing chords, lyrics, melodies from scratch, and then I record it and post it. In that time-frame, there's really *no time* for over thinking anything at all. What comes out is what I'm really thinking and feeling - musically, it's my style, it's my playing - it's pure - I'm not 'trying' to write some 'epic' song that has to be JUST RIGHT because my time is so precious. No - you dip into the stream of creativity every single day, and see what you pull up. It might be good, it might suck, it might be unbelievable. What will happen Jan 1 is that I will have THIRTY song ideas (verse, chorus) that I will play back and determine which 3 have actual potential. Which three make me feel good. And I'm not special - if I feel good in the music, there is *someone out there that will feel the same. I'll develop those and move to production. I'll release my music on Spotify. I will have done *the thing central to my identity that I have avoided for over twenty years. So I'm with you Nolan. My page is for bros like me who've dodged their calling for too long. If you're out there and you need to see that happening before your eyes - you can find WalkerMakesMusic on IG. Thanks for this prompt Nolan, keep on keeping on. instagram.com/walkermakesmusic/

Couldn’t agree more and I have experienced it first hand. Like the person you’re talking about, one of my early videos took my channel from 200 to 7k subscribers, got me monetized, and got my next videos to get thousands and even tens of thousands of views. So, of course, I stopped posting for 2 years 😂 I wanted to get back to it, but set up these unnecessary goals for myself that were really just an imaginary hurdle to keep me from JUST FKN DOING IT. So I finally did, I out out a simple video, then another with REALLY low views compared to what I was getting before my break. Then my last video, which I outlined, shot, and edited in a day with the thought “it doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to be” went on to get 13k views. It really is simple, and it gets simpler when you realize that most people won’t even see the damn thing, and those who do won’t tear it apart nearly as much as we do when we’re making it. Also seconding the “start with a title”, massively important, my 13k views video had 200 views after 3 days, changed the title, 4500 views overnight. Good stuff man.
@BackToTheBoomBapАй бұрын
Nolan, I like this video. I'm usually consistent but I think I fall behind because I spend a lot of time working on one video and sometimes I might go 2 or 3 months without posting because I'm trying to make documentaries. I'd have a lot easier time if I just filmed with my phone or webcam. But I fear it not being rehearsed and I don't want to look like I'm unprepared. I want to start not overthinking it too much going forward.
@FixItOnTheWayАй бұрын
Yes, I like making documentaries too but it seems like creators do better if they make lighter content. Fluffier the better. It's almost as if creators need to make an ad that runs for ten minutes. Then KZbin will run another ad on top of that one. Then ideally you tack on a sponsorship ad on top of that. So the video becomes a layer cake of ads.

In ADHD land we call this the need for body doubling. Many of us will do that on a live. Also, one way to get past that perfectionism is to actually talk to someone about the idea and the plan to get it done. As you say, that accountability makes a big difference. You could offer accountability coaching as a service. Also, read Big Magic from Elizabeth Gilbert. The best book on creating

I've noticed that the channels that grow have infomercials interrupted by regular ads, and titles that provoke petty, cynical drama. It makes me feel like I need to copy that formula to grow. I don't want to. I want to make book content that isn't clickbait. I don't usually want to cover the popular novels either. Am I trying to do the impossible?

Yeah, «simpler» is probably the right word, youtube can be a few things done right, simple things, but not necessarily easy - and even though I’m at 600+ subs and above 2000+ watch time hours after about 8 months of irregular posting making the vids haven’t been easy, but the hard part hasn’t been making the videos, it’s been finding time to do them - the videos are the simple part, finding time to do them has been the hard part, if that makes sense - looking forward to chrsmistnas though, two weeks of doing nothing but vids inbetween that dinner thing and the party-thing - it’s gonna be fun :)

I don’t understand the obsession with the thumbnails. I have seen hundreds of videos with thumbnails that just come from the video it’s self. They get thousands if not tens a thousands of views. No words on the thumbnail, no posses, or graphic art nothing but their video and it sores compared to mine. Are my videos really that bad?

Saving is great but investing puts you on a pedestal where you wouldnt have to worry about savings as you do now. With Magnolia Angel, my portolio is doing really great and im proud of the decisions i made last year.
