I been a hydraulic mechanic for 40 years. You're on the right track Alan, build your own, you'll be fine. Looks like your dealing with 1" ID four wire hose. Parker 421-16 is a two wire 1"ID hose and is rated around 2500 psi.

Yup, the issue is always the proprietary fittings for each kind of hyd. line manufacturer's machine. As a P&D Driver I deliver different hoses & fittings to shops. You can gain allot of wisdom from picking brains of folks like Huskiedrive...

Can Alan buy a press or something to make his own hoses? Are their portable models?
@facelikedog
@facelikedog 5 ай бұрын
In my hydraulics shop I used to machine a fitting to take the tube part of an OEM fitting. Then silver braze the end into the readily available standard fitting. If you keep it snug, all you need is a thou clearance for the silver braze to flow into the joint, the fitting will never come apart. I've done 2 1/2" 6 thousand PSI working pressure hoses that are still holding pressure years later. It's a great way to avoid getting soaked by the manufacturer. For example, Komatsu and others make threaded fittings identical to SAE except they're a couple threads per inch more just to force the operator to buy from them.

Yeah, I always make my own hoses - I've been collecting reuseable fittings for years. Only problem is that they went from skive to non skive hose at some stage so therefore the bodies are different. This might be why the hose guy didn't want to re use your old fittings. You really should put a pressure gauge on your system and see what pressure your running before you do anything else. Hoses are expensive here too. Cheers from Australia

Same here in the UK, cost's a fortune to get hydraulic hoses made up. To be honest, with all the heavy equipment that yourself and HeavyD have, it's probably well worth your while getting your own crimper between the pair of you. But even then, I doubt the quality will match those old rebuildable fittings you have on that machine - those fittings are made to last forever.

Hi Alan. Good to see the old Michigan working again! With all the equipment that Dave Sparks has, you would think he would be able to build a hydraulic line in house. It would be not only a cost savings but also a time saver. Maybe you could talk him into investing in such a setup.

Success. Never doubted you would get that beast working again. Get all of the fluids to full. Use as the starting point to check everything out. Grease her up and put her to work. First thing I would do is get it to the top and make a downhill pass with the bucket grading a bit. Make a good easy test for the systems. I hope there’s not to much winter damage but making that initial pass should help for sure. Congrats Wizard !

They've got you over a barrel there Alan. When I was a mechanic (in the eighties), we used to always use replaceable hoses as we needed them. We had the hoses on tap as it were. I don't know if the types of hose they use today has different construction, but if hose seems to be stripped of outer rubber, then that is what we used to do. Strip of, remove old fitting, clean up and replace. Do up tight!!!
